On Housing, this is an interesting one. I live in Canbeera which is in a housing bubble of its own. The Housing market in Australia has been overpriced for some time now. I did read those figures you refer too last week. The market will not continue to rocket up and up and up and up. Though is Australia insulated with Demand v Supply in mind? |

I listen to that Demand/supply argument Jez and would say this. If govt's didn't hold land back and supported infrastructure properly in those areas they hold back ....it would crash quick. IMO purposefully to sustain bubble as no Gov't on their watch wants to face the crisis when the hammer eventually falls...which it will.
Or a long period of stagflation / no pricing growth for many years to balance things up. Which is the lesser evil could be argued about. Just like the Carbon tax and forcing prices up irrespective of rebates....the general population/households have a "peak " economic position....really the avg household isn't far off....house of cards IMO But my education in Economics finished at a 2nd year uni level so maybe Im not the greatest advisory ....it is what it is, my opionion, for what it's worth Cheers AP |

Womble: Are their half of those sveral hundred thousand properties being capable to be paid for at current prices for home owners ( not Investment) ? . To me that is the relevant point of issue.
The shortages just fuel price bubble. |

Whilst I think the "supply and demand" issue has held us the Aussie property market together for some time - I don't think it can justify the hotly overpriced market we are amongst.
I mean its pretty crazy out there. 50-60% overpriced. The property market here is ticking......  A correction is necessary and well overdue. There are some investors who are very naive. It's not a matter of if, but WHEN. |

Two more sleeps until the great rally. The NO CARBON TAX rally at Parliament House, Canberra at Midday. Plenty of big names in attendance. Angry Anderson will be hosting the event. And boy, if he mad about this great big new tax on everything. 2GB broadcasting live from the Rally. Appearances from National's Senator, Barnaby Joyce and I'd expect to see a few other Coalition MP's in attendance. A massive day. The buses are full. The flights are fully booked out. not all of them Jez, perfectly happy to see a few oldies get on a bus to Canberra because they don't believe in climate change - just hope Tony doesn't get confused and use the "Tuesday speech" instead of the "Monday speech" - would've been much easier for him if they held it on one of those 2 days

so we have Hockey out there today saying if there is no carbon tax there will be no compensation - i.e. tax rises and pension decreases if the Liberals win power

the rise in pension is to pay for the carbon tax , no carbon tax = no need for rise, derrr as if you didnt know that but re distribution is your master plan and not once have you shown any sympathy to the battlers out there already the pensioners,the poor and middle oz, every single day articles in the paper about the cost of living and trying to get by raising a family, its ok to not want family and be with whoever you want such as yourself but you dont have to preach your inner city urban lifestyle minimal use of the planet stuff to everyone, govts have supported communities way out of the cbd with appaling transport facilities that neccessitate own transport and you,brown,milne and co want all to suffer for it, aust is a vast continent with very different needs compared to other countries womble, carbon tax will never in a hundred lifetimes change the weather....wake up but then again i know you already know this and just support the redistribution of wealth whilst saying such token niceites as 'think of the children' and reducing pollution is a bad thing because?' we are awake to you and majority are with no carbon tax rort and btw did you forget your esteemed leader juLIAR didnt even want the previous pay rise for pensioners...........how convenient memory lapses are.... |

Secong , it took a Labor government to give pensioners the fortnightly increase they were crying out for - the Greens would be even more generous - the increases need to be funded though so why not by taxing pollution, and reducing it as result - and taxing miners??? if that is wealth distribution so be it transport infrastructure needs huge investment, once again it needs to be paid for what will happen with the weather if we do nothing??? |

One thing that gets me is that when they proposed the Mining Tax they were criticised from a resehole to breakfast for supplying all the details and not consulting the miners and the people.
So when they decide to announce the Carbon Tax and the consultation process they are criticised from a resehole to breakfast for not supplying all the details. They can't have it both ways. |

the 5/8 of nothing pollution savings will never change the weather you silly nutjobs for sure we can encourage cleaner energy (ie: private enterprise investing $$$ in new technologies , that strangely are thin on the ground right now) but why should the taxpayer pay for it? |
