Those earning over $50,000 a year will receive nothing. $60,000 a year is an "average wage" according to the ABS.
......................................................................................................... Pluck a figure to promote your scare campaign. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
Pluck a figure?
News Ltd, Fairfax and Macquarie, news organisations are all reporting the figures, AFL. Those earning over $50,000 won't receive any compensation. Centrelink customers will. So if your a family earning over $50,000 or a single - tighten the purse strings. Times are about to get even tougher for you. A carbon tax with a 4% increase each and every year. |
|
By:
But hey, look on the bright side, whilst you work hard and pay more tax - Centrelink customers get a pay boost and the environmental receives zero benefit.
![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
What if the cut-off is $65,000 a year?
Better to wait and see what the actual figures are rather than goin off half c0cked as the Libs are doing. But that doesn't suit the Scare campaign does it.? ![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
Thats right AFL.
We still wait for the detail ![]() Waiting...waiting...waiting! The Opposition has a plan, fully detailed and with assured outcomes, whilst the Government produces a fundamentally flawed carbon tax scheme........WITHOUT DETAILS! |

By:
Scare campaign...
![]() ![]() ![]() If the figures reported this morning aren't true, why didn't the Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Minister for Trade deny them? |
|
By:
They were all interviewed this morning and all accepted the figures put to them from these reports.

By:
Maybe you were busy watching Sunday cartoons when these interviews were on air.

I can just see Abbotts Campaign Slogan Now
NO GREAT BIG NEW TAX CUT NO GREAT BIG NEW PENSION INCREASE ![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
So is this about saving us from climate change or tax cuts and pension increases?
Or are these tax cuts and increases in the pension just to cover the added costs of the carbon tax? Or are they over and above that, in which case, why bother - this is wealth redistribution. I can see the cheap political points to be scored from touting a pension increase and tax cuts - but it diverts from the reason for the carbon tax....... ....I mean, wtf?People will be asking, like me, what exactly is the purpose of this? And what about families and singles earning an average wage - we're out in the cold paying for Centrelink customer pay increases. Riiippeeerrr ![]() This is an abomination. It beggars belief. This policy position from Gillard Labor is about as clear as MUD. |
|
By:
If this line about "Abbotts new campaign slogan" and "Abbotts against tax cuts and pension increases" is the new Labor attack position.
It's as hollow as you get. Goodluck comrades ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Welcome to Abbott/Liberal World. [smiley:crazy]
of having a foot in both camps of any political Issue. Start 2011 with a plan to oppose everything, and have your underlings, Bernardi, Andrews, Miirabella etc.. run a thinly veilled (No Burqa's etc) LOL campaign against Muslims, whilst defending them on the other hand. ![]() Then he decides to Deny Climate Change on Monday's on the one hand, and Accept Climate Change on Tuesday's, on the other hand. ![]() Can anyone spot a pattern here? ![]() ![]() He must have sore balls through sitting on the fence, ![]() Sorry he must have no balls, through standing for nothing and opposing everything. ![]() They are a disgrace, and a rabble. ![]() ![]() To think they might have won the election with Turnbull, had they had the courage to stand for something.![]() ![]() What a joke they are. |

NO GREAT BIG NEW TAX CUT
NO GREAT BIG NEW PENSION INCREASE ![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
No, AFL.
This is about a carbon tax. The Coalition opposes a great big new tax on everything, that IS the carbon tax. This is not about tax cuts, pension increases or other "live compensation options" that JuLIAR is putting out there as a possibilities.... This is about a fundamentally flawed carbon tax that serves no purpose for the environment, but apparently serves only to bump up the pay packets of Centrelink customers. |
|
By:
Let me emphasise to you again AFL.
These "possible" tax cuts and increases in pensions are not free gifts with no strings attached.... ![]() It's some sort of compensation to make up for the massive drive up in the costs of living under a carbon tax. To suggest the Coalition, because of its opposition to the carbon tax, is against the compensation scheme - is 100% correct. There is no need for compensation, because we shouldn't be compensating Centrelink customers for a carbon tax that is fundamentally flawed and inefficient. |
|
By:
![]() Clarity is required here...... Is this carbon tax about the environment? or is it about recycling money and placing it in the pockets of Centrelink recipients? I'm confused, as are millions of Australians. |
|
By:
Labor don't want to talk about the flawed carbon tax anymore.
They would rather talk about the Coalition opposing tax cuts and pension increases. The increases that serve to apparently compensate people for THE GREAT BIG NEW TAX ON EVERYHING - A CARBON TAX! ![]() ![]() [smiley:crazy][smiley:crazy][smiley:crazy]This carbon tax is an abomination. It's a farce. No sneaky compensation deals dressed up as a "free lunch" can disguise this basket-case tax scheme. |
|
By:
Ohh, hang on tomorrow is Monday, Abbott/Liberal deny Climate Change day.
(When interviewed by the Shock Jocks) That will satisfy the Bolt's, Jones's, Murdoch's and Akermin's. Tuesday.... Climate Change is real day for the people that believe in Climate Change. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
I don't blame you for rabbiting on about Tony Abbott and the Opposition this early in the electoral cycle, AFL.
With the government on the nose, on the back foot, desperately losing the debate on the carbon tax and now dressing up carbon tax "compensation" as a free lunch - I'd avoid talking about Labor as well. ![]() |

australia are being targetted by the 'found to be false' data sets used by dr hansen etc from nasa etc
their story to the world is NOT how much co2 is emitted ... but how much PER CAPITA so because we have a very large land mass and a small spread out population our co2 emission per person (according to the liars) is causing the problem to the globe if all australians fitted into victoria (about the size of the uk) ... then it would be shown that we emit less than the uk ... everything about this co2 story is so laden with deceipt, manipulation & terror etc that it is simply NOT believeable if we wish to do our part as a nation ... to pacify the international audience (and future trade) who are looking for another country to blame ... then yes ... let us capitulate to the deceivers and DO OUR BIT here but if we tax ... it has to ALL go into a Greening Australia Fund (like India are to do as womble pointed out) if the govt take this tax directly into consolidated revenue ... it will get 'lost' in the bucket and become 'budget revenue' and will NOT end up satisfying the environment issue which people are pretending it will and once in the 'budget revenue bucket' it will stay that way and increase each time a new funding tap 'is needed to be turned on' forget the STING movie ... this is the greatest hoax to be perpetrated on innocent citizens you could imagine and will do nothing ... for the global environment india, china, japan, usa emit form 3 to 5 times our emmisions (individually by each country) and if you want to see what russia, south america, europe ... and also africa and south america emit .. then i recommend you google emmissions by country quickly ... before your current govt changes your way of life aand all because ... at these global junket tour conferences attended ... they are saying emissions should be looked at on a per capita emission ... rather than a collective emmission we are on almost the largest land mass with almost the smallest population .. but they want to make us guilty and our govt is going along with the deception |
|
By:
Well said thebas.
You are the voice of reason. |
|
By:
cheers jez ... but its a small voice ... and not everyone agrees i accept that
... there will also be inaccuracies and inconsistencies in what i post on this topic ... its a tricky topic to pin down via the information and mis-information you have to sift through ... but it ain't all FACT like they're trying to get us to believe and if carbon taxation turns out to be a ... 'tax your citizens' or 'suffer in international trade' situation (like europe or more correctly italy & france did to india in forcing their tax hand by threatening a local europe carbon tax on india at every trade point with them) so lets come clean (no pun) at the highest level and be honest with the citizens in what this is all about because this tax is not directly linked to environment greening at all julia has said she is just "hoping" a commercial company will come forward at some time in the future and use THEIR OWN money to develop and offer us greener fuels by taking on the 'giants' yeah ... that's likely lol |
|
By:
i'm not sure what you guys have got against pensioners - they are the ones that can least afford the change and as a result should be compensated
there will also be compensation for some businesses that are trade exposed the balance goes to funding development of renewables and the like sensible approach i'd suggest I highlighted that India is doing something - sure not the same thing but something - the world is moving ahead on this issue we don't want to get left behind |
|
By:
I've got absolutely nothing against pensioners. Never said anything of the sort wombleoz - though, I'm sure your aware of that.
But the compensation from a carbon tax goes direct to Centrelink customers, full stop. But I ask, what about families with Mum and Dad working full time at Woolworths, combined over $60,000, but not much more - they are left in fkn dark. They are FKN struggling wombleoz, I know YOU don't get, but they are struggling to put food on the table, struggling with grocery prices, petrol prices and the cost of living in general. |
|
By:
And you and your merry tune "sensible I'd suggest" nonsense.
You wouldn't know sensible if it slapped you in the face. This carbon tax does NOTHING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. It does not save us from climate change. It does not alter the world temperature. And it most certainly does NOT leave us behind if we DON'T implement it. This is fundamentally flawed and a political mess from Labor. I mean we now have suggestions today from Labor that the Coalition oppose tax cuts and Centrelink payment increases..................... The same tax cuts and Centrelink payment increases that are designed to compensate for the CARBON TAX....the flawed, farcical and con job, that is the carbon tax. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Are they serious? |
|
By:
Oh yeah, we're "doing something" wombleoz, we're implementing a tax (which you naturally love) that will kill our economy, kill jobs and kill workers financially (who will get ZERO compensation).
But hey the money gets recycled and returned to the Centrelink customers. And the bottom line. The environment is no better off. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. |
|
By:
Though I'm sure you won't notice anything wombleoz.
The latte's will still be nice and hot on Toorak Road. [smiley:crazy] Fkn that far out of touch it's not funny. Fair dinkum. |
|
By:
womble ... this 'short read' link might give a better clue as to why india went ahead with an internal tax ...
rather than suffer an external protectionist tax from europe ... as initiated and insisted by france http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2009-11-30/india/28081327_1_carbon-tax-eu-imports-import-tax |
|
By:
the figures haven't been announced yet, wait and see how the couple on $60k goes i'd suggest
pensioners are centrelink customers the price trigger will change behaviours and have positive results for the planet |
|
By:
'low environmental standards' were cited by france against india
this from the same france that exploded 130 nuclear bombs underground in our pacific (at mururoa which is almost halfway between nz and chile) |
|
By:
the price trigger will change behaviours and have positive results for the planet
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
Not much at all has been announced in terms of detail.....actually
![]() And please, enlighten us the "positive results for the planet" from this carbon tax. What will Australia having a carbon tax do the planet.....over, say five years? What are the results expected? Or are we just hoping for the best? And will all the money go to compensation as Julia Gillard has suggested, therefore leaving nothing for clean/green energy initatives? |
|
By:
less pollution will be a good thing for the planet
|
|
By:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm blown away by the details, wombleoz. Slow down. |
|
By:
How will a carbon tax in this country assure less pollution and what impact will it have the globe?
|
|
By:
it's not rocket science Jez, if something costs more people will buy less of it and look for alternatives
global impact, not much on it's own but it'll make the air here cleaner and will form part of the global move to a cleaner future |
|
By:
Ok ...Im back to undecided now re: Thebas 's postulations and thoughts. No one disagree's regards greening the planet and going renewable ( hey it should lower throat and lung cancer rates in the very least).
I think when it is announced where the money goes( ie special fund as thebas describes or General revenue will decide it for me) . We are a very small drop in the ocean re: people. Don't worry about the Jez v Womble battle.....it's Garnut v Thebas for mine[;)] A tiny matter which passed through to the keeper during the week was a International report that Aus housing is 50-60% overvalued ....the storm is coming ...sell up |
|
By:
If this happens, then this will happen and hopefully this will happen.
Plenty of if's in your theory's wombleoz. The loose and weak theories you repeat over and over as if it will become more believable the more you repeat. ![]() PS - AP, I think it would be fair to say thebas hasn't been alone in calling for greening up the planet, but, actually doing something that will achieve a RESULT. |

Ross Garnaut is an absolute helmet.
Typical left winger - when you can't muster a solid argument, go for the insult. A complete packaged mouthpiece for Labor. According to Ross, who has no qualifications in climate science, anyone who is a climate sceptic or sceptical of a carbon tax is "arrogant". ![]() |

Beg your pardon.
"ignorant" My apologies. "Ignorant", says Ross. |
