The momentum is building for the No Carbon Tax Rally next Wednesday 23 March 2011 at Parliament House, Canberra.
It's going to be a massive day and I'm confident of a strong message being sent to JuLIAR and the government - as well as a strong political message to the community, who are understandable up in arms over this betrayal and yet another great big new tax. Let your voice be heard. Come along to the rally! Any forumites considering coming along, send me a message via the Forum Beta and let me know - would love to catch up. I'll be ditching the rally gear and heading into Parliament House for Question Time in the House of Representatives following the rally - and maybe a few quiet beers at the Parliamentary Cafe afterwards...  |

There's one thing holding rallies in major cities, but Canberra is a big call. But with Parliament sitting, its perfect.
I'm positive the media coverage will be plentiful. There will be thousands of people converging on Canberra. No number will detemine success or failure. This isn't about numbers of marchers its about sending a message to JuLIAR and this government. And getting the message out to the public. Most of the media coverage of the rallies across the country against the tax and the GETUP! rally in Melbourne were smothered by the Japanese disaster coverage. |

Confident of over 10,000, but beyond that, no idea.
But the rally continues to grow and grow and grow and grow. And some big media names will be in attendance in addition to Coalition MP's, including the Leader of the Opposition.  |

I didnt mind the crack about Tony being ignorant on Monday with a statement and knowledgeable about it the next day on Tuesday.
He also said on lateline "if their is criticism of tax cuts being socialism then a lot of people will like it" So you install a tac and then send half of it back and call it a tax cut...please I will say Im onboard with the science and the fact he says it has turned into a idealogical battle.We are making a contribution to it but who can stop the volcanoes!!! A greener/cleaner world is a better one and if this is the only way ...so be it. Wombleoz: Listening to Ross on lateline did it. I would still sack Labour for lying about it and not having the kahoona's to make the case. Install Turnbull and Tanner I say on a joint ticket. Not my fault your 8000 Getup!-save-the-Labor-Government rally got smothered in the media by the Japan disaster. You don't understand the fact that real people without political affiliation, people who don't normally rally and coming in busloads to Canberra to have there say, to have there voices heard. We can debate the "human activity link" with climate change - as it is still a THEORY and most definetely not a foregone conclusion.
But greening up the environment, I can live with. But my issue is with this tax. To be frank, it's a fkn dogs breakfast and we haven't even seen the detail yet. I know this carbon tax invigorates the ideologues like wombleoz, who crave taxes and the chance at wealth redistribution. But this is fundamentally flawed. It's outcomes are unclear, its desired result, if any is "hopeful". We're leading the way, and its economically dangerous, and without the big polluters aboard we achieve....what? We are accepting massive wallet pain for zero environmental gain.....and this gift from JuLIAR continues to give. One point people forget, this carbon tax will rise each and every year. This isn't a fixed "GST" at say 10%. This is endless. And JuLIAR is now talking about all money being returned in compensation (no doubt to Centrelink customers) and so........remind me why we are fkn bothering if this is the case? Bottom line, the impact on the environment from this carbon tax is ZERO. And we have the major polluters worldwide talking about loose goals (China), rising emissions (India) and backing away and repealing carbon taxes (USA). In addition, broadly the link between our emissions and climate change can be strongly contested also. I mean, wherever you turn, its an abomination. A complete abomination. Gillard Labor is now at the point where all you hear is: "We are determined to see this through"........ Good for them. But GOOD-FKN-LUCK! |

The [tax] slapped on coal in last year’s budget will help pay for schemes to protect and regenerate forests and clean up polluted sites announced in this year’s Budget. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has allocated Rs. 200 crore each to the Green India Mission, an ambitious ten-year Mission which is a key element of India’s climate change strategy, and environmental remediation programmes to combat the pollution problems that have emerged as serious public health concerns. The money has been earmarked from the National Clean Energy Fund. This Fund was announced exactly a year ago, to collect revenue from the Rs. 50 a tonne tax imposed on both Indian and imported coal. It was to be used to sponsor research and innovative projects in clean energy technology, which would help combat climate change. If a third world country can do something surely we can All this c r a p about wealth redistribution is pretty annoying, it's all about doing something for the planet - of course those that can't afford to help out should be assisted but it's not about making them better off, just not making them worse off. |

Bottom line, we can do something, to that I agree.
But lets make it something that makes a difference to the environment with REAL results. India's pollution levels will continue to rise, China pumps out the propaganda the West want to hear and the US states continue to repeal and the nation broadly continues to move away from a taxation scheme........ Yet we are going to take the lead, introduce this great big tax on everything and save the planet. It's just fanciful. That on top of the fact this is a great big LIE from JuLIAR, there is no detail to this scheme, JuLIAR is now spruiking the fact that the compensation will leave people better off (in which case, why are we bothering) and on and on and on it goes. the only similarity i can see with india and Oz is in the name Carbon Tax
India are putting ALL there revenue into their Nation Clean Energy Fund (unlike Oz) India will only tax coal supply (unlike Oz) http://rainforests.mongabay.com/09-carbon_emissions.htm if India have a billion people now and are COMMENCING industrialisation then their increased emmissions might treble by 2030 they could NOT go down an emssions trading schem because NO country would have enough credits to supply their needs australia are predicted to increase their emmssions by 'less than' 1% by 2030 because we are pretty well fully industrialsed if there is one area where India (and by the way we haven't discussed china yet) should reduce their emmissions it is in the area of REPRODUCTIVE emmissions it is a very long bow to draw comparing julia's proposed carbon tax and india's that i can see ... unless she puts ALL the revenue into a fund that is used solely in the future in regards to the very environment that she PURPORTS to be saving this tax revenue grab proposal is far from over ... save the environment & fk the economy of middle class australia ... yep that makes sense |

Those earning over $50,000 a year will receive nothing. $60,000 a year is an "average wage" according to the ABS.
Plenty of families and singles who earn over $50,000 a year and will desperately need assistance when a carbon tax lifts the cost of living that is already breaking these people. The speculative detail from desperate Labor minister's this morning leads me to believe this really is a wealth redistribution scheme - because it certainly guarantees nothing for the environment. And as usual, the compensation flows for Centrelink customers, but the rest of Australia continues to sink under the weight of the cost of living. |
