With the announcements made today regarding the Governor-General delaying her trip O/S, I would safely say, it will be announced this weekend - 90% confident - the following weekend at the latest.
LMAO Wombleoz. Wake up to yourself. Your one and only crowning glory is this 5.1% unemployment figure. The Rudd-Gillard Government should be applauded for its efforts in saving us all? Right? ROFL. Your kidding aren't you? Well at the least, your kidding yourself. The Labor record to date......... *Didn't include any major infrastructure in the Nation Building stimulus package because the effects would be felt too slowly (except for duplicating school halls and gyms). Billions wasted throughout the BER scheme, with zero accountability. *Promised strong action on climate change. The greatest moral challenge of our time. Remember the 2007 rhetoric, the Copenhagen summit? All hot air from Labor. *Turned a good budget surplus into such a huge debt that our grandchildren will have so much trouble servicing it that our population will have to increase rapidly. Blamed the GFS while steadfastly refusing to give any credit to Howard or Costello for leaving them an excellent budget position to work with. *How about those measures to help "working families" and the cost of living pressures. Remember Fuelwatch? How about Grocerywatch? Both costly and abandoned fiascos. *Sent money direct to taxpayers and non-taxpayers to spend on large screen imported TV's to stimulate the economy and avoid the effects of what Rudd and Swan called the worst depression since the 1930s. In fact unemployment was 11% in 1991 and in 2009 didn't get to 6%, which not too many years ago would have been regarded as virtually full employment. Remember Beattie's target 5%? But if you can't maintain your popularity rating by sending money to voters what can you do? *Has opened one of 2,650 promised "trades training centres", one of 260 promised child care centres in schools and TAFEs, and 2 of 31 promised GP Super Clinics. *Set up the $70m green loans mess - people gave up their jobs, paid $3,000 for qualifications and insurance to be trained as assessors, only to find the demand for green loans had been grossly exaggerated, many more assessors were trained than the program envisaged, and there was no work for most of them. *Border protection and Labor. Its a joke. In 2007 Labor promised to stop the boats. Again, a massive failure. All talk, no action. This government has failed comprehensively - this is just a sample of a long list of botched projects, on-the-run policy and failures from a BAD government. To suggest they are deserving of a second term is fanciful and very much a heavy duty cherry picking job from desperate Labor fans. Time for real action on the matters that are important to Australians. Ms Gillard made plenty of pledges when she butchered Kevin Rudd to take the Prime Ministership. And already she has failed with more policy-on-the-run with large dollops of spin and rhetoric. The Coalition are the underdogs in this campaign, thats no doubt, but once the campaign begins and the party is able to deliver is policy commitments, I believe we will have a closer contest than is currently being shown in polling. What is all this rubbish about the boats, most of our immigrants come on planes.
With the introduction of the new conservative Govt in the UK up went the consumption tax. Is there any chance of the Liberals doing the same here considering Honest John before the election he won said never ever introduce the GST in the first place. |

gilliard must call the election asap.The longer she delays the more she is exposed as another labour fraud.She has less substance than dudd.If she stays in for another 5/6 weeks she will get killed at the election.She can then spend her time smiling for photo shhots with kids and walking through shopping centres with her hand on the shoulders of invalids.Anything to avoid a real poicy.
The real interest will come in the TV debate, my money is that abbott will cream her there.She does not strike me as one who will do well under any real pressure.As long as she can waltz around and spit out the words of her speech writers she is ok , but if she has to think on her feeet-its all over. |

Signed Kyoto - something even the Liberals say they should've done earlier Said Sorry - ditto Increased the aged pension Avoided recession during the GFC with unemployment not rising above 6% and now at a very low 5.1% Abolished Work Choices - which even the Liberals say went too far BER - not perfect but it's great to see some money spent on schools that needed it desperately, the Catholic sector is very happy with what they got. Talk to some parents Insulation program - once again not perfect, but the power bills that line up with last winter should be coming in now, let's see how much less they are more to come |

NBN - wow, a party that recognises the advantages fast internet can offer, vital infrastructure investment with the first clients already being connected in Tassie and plenty more to follow shortly with the Telstra deal done Mining Tax - made an ambit claim, ended up with an extra $10 billion a year and the miners thinking they won, great to see we will get more return from OUR non-renewable resources Progress on hospitals, a long way to go but the new model has a lot of potential Introduced Paid Parental Leave from 1 January next year, we finally catch up a little on the rest of the world a little Henry has reported on his tax review, a plan for real tax reform over the next 10 years, once again plenty of potential and a good framework Super increases from 9% to 12% - which will give people plenty extra to live on in the future Delivered on the promised tax cuts in full despite the GFC Lots of investment in community housing flowing through etc etc etc - the story is far from being all bad Bring on the election  |

the belief that super annuation will support people intheir retirement is one of the greatest govt scams of all time.The reason the super was increased is because it is taxed at 15%.It is a tax increase, more $$$ to the govt paid for by business.Workers pay these days is not increased parltly because of the super contrib.Super does not pay your mortgage or electricity bill. Check your super returns and you will find almost all of it is from contribtions not investment returns.You could have used those contribs to pay your mortgage instead. |

You have to look at the longer term returns on super Mrben, averages would be 5% plus which will add up to quite a bit over 30 to 40 years. Super is forced savings and one of the best things that's happened in this country - we would've been pretty well screwed if we didn't have the trillion dollars plus invested in there during the GFC
Letting people pump their super into their home loans would just add more heat to an overheated housing market. Some things need to be looked at long term. AP - there have been tax cuts each of the last 3 years |

if that is true womble then why has the retirement age been lifted?Why did rudd admit that it will have to go over 70yo in the next few years?If super is so successful it should mean lower retirement ages due to the great returns? Why do you see so many grey headed guys working full time as couriers, delivery guys etc? I recently had a delivery from aussie post and the guy must have been 70 if he was a day.Why do people retire then have to go back to work?
They are renovating the house across the road from me.I would say the average age of the guys is over 60 yo still painting and scraping and hauling out stuff to the skip at that age. |

Womble, certainly Super isn't a bad thing , but we are getting the guts taxed out of us, Income Tax is far too high.SBS had a show about the libs during Howard/Costello years.A newspaper article flashed up saying 10 years ago warning Housing prices were too high.It puts some weight behind MrBen's theory that it is a bit conspiratorial Gov'ts continuing to inflate the market, with no Gov't wanting to see a crash on their watch.Household debt will see 1 of 2 things happen or both.People having to firesale houses and foreigners snapping them up ,or wealthy few , and/or a generation copping it in the "arse" because of the greed and excesses of the earlier generations, if they are left to their own devices.If houses aren't willed to the children , a vast majority will never see the light of day.

I read an article in yesterdays paper which said that in 2012, countries will have to pay back 5 TRILLION in debt, with 3.8 trillion of that to be paid back by European countries. There is no way they can do it without printing money. This will have a disastrous effect on their economies.
I see that the market has had a bounce on Wall Street and consequently, here as well. Leave me out gents. I know I sound like the harbinger of doom, but the debt levels currently existing around the world, are unsustainable. Whether it's in 6 or 12 or 18 months, the chickens will come home to roost and I'm predicting that Wall Street could fall back to the 8,000 level and a similar fall on our market will follow. For the sake of all of us, I hope I'm wrong. |

The reason the retirement age is rising is that we have an aging population - i.e. more and more oldies, less people to do the work and pay taxes. Why we need high immigration rates at least in the short term to cover us for the retiring baby boomers.
Where would we be now if we didn't have compulsory super??? Mind you, it's not a guaranteed gold mine, I wonder how the oldies that borrowed to the hilt to take advantage of Howard's deal of the tax free million are doing now - poor buggers. Swings and roundabouts but in the end we all win from having a solid super system |
