Ready To Venture - 2:10 Ascot
10pts win |
|
By:
Good luck Shane. Sorry to say I backed it on Monday, but a more conservative each-way.
Can I just clarify that my previous comments regarding going win over each-way just related to the circumstances of that week. Unless someone has got a massive score on the board in the first week of the round it is important just to get some points on the board to stay in contention for the second week. That's what we did in the last round with 5/8 scores. I won't be posting a selection until all the final declarations are known for Thursday-Saturday. |
|
By:
Unlucky cc , very good attempt.
Best of luck Shane. |
|
By:
Very disappointing from Ready To Venture. Flattened out completely in the final furlong throwing away the each-way in the process. Needs to settle down if she is going to be much better than a handicapper.
|
|
By:
Well I hope everyone is in better form than I am, it wouldn't be difficult. Not a sniff at Punchestown. At least I have avoided tipping that rubbish on here. Given the way the scores have gone if we are to stay in contention we somehow need to try and cobble together 100 points between the 6. No pressure. Let's hope those Pins are indeed Lucky.
Good luck to all. |

I've gone for Hooray Henry EW, 4.00 Chepstow, currently a 12-1 chance generally, who I mentioned last week because he ran in the same Doncaster novice as Al Simmo, and ran a similar sort of race, sat close to the pace in a race run in a fast time, and although ultimately outclassed, he wasn't disgraced behind the winner who went onto Listed success, and a couple now both rated in the 90s.
Like Al Simmo, he subsequently ran in a couple of handicaps without winning, disappointing at Windsor when weak in the betting and racing freely, and then perhaps not suited by the heavy ground when last seen at Yarmouth last October. His mark is now down to 62, 5lb higher than what Al Simmo won off last week, who he had finished over 4l ahead of at Doncaster. Hooray Henry is up against some in-form sorts here, notably the resurgent and well handicapped Major Valentine, who handles Chepstow particularly well, but as that Donny run came first time out last season, I'm hoping Hooray Henry will be ready to roll on this his seasonal reappearance. Good luck to those still to select. |
|
By:
Ground at Chepstow would appear to be on the soft side of good (at least), so the surface is a query for Hooray Henry (get my excuses in early!).
|
|
By:
Good luck George.
Staying on well late on at Donny. Whatever the horse needs, couldn't be in better hands. Like you say fast conditions look best but Sire also pretty good on the AW. |
|
By:
They're calling it "soft" now, werbie, so the ground a definite query. The first and third have just come up the stands rail in that last sprint, so hopefully Nicola Currie was taking notice and will make her way there from trap 10.
|
|
By:
An absolute shocker, unfortunately, might even have been pulled up.
It'll take a leap of faith to support him again after that, unless he needs it genuinely rattling, or the AW. |
|
By:
turns out he's a bit of a bleeder!
Dwelt start, took keen hold, in rear, headway and prominent over 4f out, ridden and lost position over 2f out, hung left and in rear over 1f out, virtually pulled up towards finish, burst blood vessel Got all the excuses this time, wrong ground and burst blood vessel ![]() Hope those playing tomorrow have better luck. |

Looking at the positive nobody got any points yesterday so we are looking at trying to get something like a 100 points from 5 selections.
Unfortunately, I can't remember going into a weekend less confident. Punchestown has been a total washout. The only one that looked like winning (Scarlet And Dove) threw it away. Hopefully, it can't get any worse. Although I have backed a couple at Punchestown given what has happened I can't put those up. Two are in the 5.05 which looks the strongest handicap of the week. Lot's of small fields on the Flat with the propensity for jocks to be playing silly buggers with the pace. That may inhibit Creative Force who looks the most obvious short price job. In any case he would yield less than 20 points. So the pin has come down on the class race, the 2.000 Guineas. I am lucky to have my three ante-post bets turn up, but unlucky that just about everything else has turned up as well such that the betting resembles a competitive handicap. I have decided to go with what I believe to be potentially the best horse in the race:- 3.40 Newmarket Van Gogh EW He has a big tick in the looks/pedigree box and he seemed to progress throughout his first season. I am not sure that he needs the heavy ground he got for his Group 1 win. Although he should stay 1m2f, a strongly run, stiff mile should suit. I think along with One Ruler he represents the value at the current prices. The obvious negatives are that on paper he looks the O'Brien third choice (not always the obvious guide) and whether this race is being used as a stepping stone rather than a target. Only Coolmore will know the answer to that question. Good luck to all. I suspect we might need some, otherwise that last chance saloon might be closing. |

Good afternoon Guys,
Unlucky to those that have played and good luck to those that haven't. Lucky Vega - 3.40 Newmarket - 5 pts EW in the hope he stays the 8f. |

Unlucky George
Benefit Street - 3.50 Thirsk 10pts win Best of luck today guys |

Unlucky George. Right Idea I reckon, wrong day. Hope he comes back from that.
![]() Have gone with Percys Lad 4.50 Newm to improve for this step up in trip. Liked his win at Salisbury last year which would have been a fair enough test for a 2yo. Good luck guys |
|
By:
Bad luck Happy. Pretty obvious the best horse finished second. Jock cost us the points. 18/1 beats favourite and second favourite. Jocks doing bookmakers a turn never happened before has it?

It was worth a shot at the odds Werbie, at the sort of price we're now in need of. Better luck next week.

Well done Andrew. We really should have had two scores.
Thankfully for us bar one score everyone has struggled this week so we are not completely out of it, but next week we will need 10/1+ winners have any chance. After the pathetic performances by the O'Brien trio Santa Barbara will drift and I think she must be opposed. I thought about Saffron Beach, but will be putting up Thunder Beauty as she is a slightly bigger price. Lee and Condon are a shrewd team and I doubt she will be travelling over with an idea that she will come on a stone later in the season. |

3.40 Newmarket Thunder Beauty EW

Good luck differentdrum.
I've had a bit EW on this one myself, having put her in the notebook last season. |
|
By:
Garbage I am afraid George 12/1-18/1 told the story. That doesn't happen with Pricewise horses.
A bookmakers result again, but not the one we were looking for. |
|
By:
It looked too bad to be true, differentdrum.
Looking at her form, suppose quick ground could be offered as an excuse, time will tell. Nice winner for TOFTL's today, so we're going to have pull a rabbit out of the hat from somewhere. |
|
By:
and for the Thieves too.
We need them all to stop picking winners and give us a chance ![]() |
|
By:
Not been the best of weeks.
Zero winners at Punchestown and ante-post I had these running over the last two days. Running might be too kind for some of them. Thunder Moon 14/1 Master Of The Seas 16/1 Van Gogh 25/1 Santa Barbara 25/1 I would never have said this before, but over the last 6 months making any sort of profit on a regular basis without a huge dollop of luck has been close to impossible. |

Unlucky Werbie, worth a try at the odds.
Good luck Shane, we need this one. |
