looking forward to it hopefully we can sock it to em.

By:
so skipper are you looking to bigger priced selections avoiding shorties ?
|
|
By:
Morning all and yes I'm in - and I agree it will be much more fun if we win.
I tend to concentrate on NH racing (chases in particular) so next week my selection is likely to be on Monday or Tuesday. The following week there is a jump meeting almost every day. Good luck to you all |
|
By:
I, like The Sawyer, generally prefer NH Handicap Chases.
Second preference is Flat Handicaps over at least 7f, preferably 10-18f. Don't normally touch conditions races or handicap hurdles. Very rarely look below CL4 level unless it's early in the week when your choices tend to be very limited. Come on boys - we can do this! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
Whilst I prefer NH, I like to stick to the Flat in the "Flat season".
I consider anything below 5/2 to be a "shortie" and get very upset if one I've tipped loses ![]() My win strike rate is low but I hope I can come up with the odd ew cracker. |

Thanks to all for reporting for duty and we all seem ready to do battle. As far as strategy is concerned, it sounds as if several of you specialise in different types of races, which is good. Do we have anybody who can work out these 20 runner sprint handicaps. They would be very useful. As far as price is concerned, perhaps we initially at least should not be too "optimistic" There is probably not a great future in everybody going for 20/1 shots although I certainly would have no issue with anybody who picks a big priced selection. I suspect the best strategy might be to try and get quite a few winners in the say 3/1 - 5/1 range. By the Saturday of the 2nd week we will have to review how the other teams have performed and perhaps adjust our strategy at that time. I have looked at tomorrow's and Monday's cards and there is nothing there to excite me, so I certainly will not be playing tomorrow or Monday. It looks as if The Sawyer will be playing on either Monday or Tuesday, so good luck for a winning start.

like others i try to stay away from poor racing prefer class 4 and above enjoy h/caps, but as for big field ones a lot depends on clear runs but not averse to trying if needs must lets hope we all find a bit of form.

OK Captain,
I am prepared to take the plunge as early as tomorrow with one at Down Patrick to establish an early lead for us (maybe!). ![]() What do we do now? Do I put it up here for discussion and get a general consensus as to whether to officially submit it, or do I just put it up on ud's selection thread and then accept the praise/grief/humiliation depending on how it runs? It is likely to start favourite at about 5/2 to 7/2 so a straight 10 units to win would be my preferred option. E/w terms would be 1/5th, first three. |

mad, I don't think we want to get into scrutinising selections before they are posted, none of mine would pass

as for the demonic, you lot seem more rylan than alasteir crowley.
gl all the same. |

By:
madhatter, I agree with undecided that there is no need for your selection to be approved here. If you are happy to have this as your selection for the week, I will trust your judgement. At the sort of price you are indicating I think you should just go for the win, but the final decision is yours. Good luck, I must admit I have not even looked at the Irish cards. It might be an idea for everybody to post their selections on this thread as well as the selection thread, so that all the team members can better keep a track of the proceedings each week and even maybe profit from them!

Ok then boys - i am sticking my tenner on SOLDIERS HILL - 2.55 Downpatrick unless someone comes up with a good reason not to within the next hour or so.
Have watched it's two races this season a couple of times over: was never put into the race on it's seasonal debut but jumped well at Roscommon. Second time up it cantered home (in what appears a fairly poor race though) at Downpatrick over 2m6f. Jumped really well, was never off the bridle and returned a RPR of 138 without any serious effort. Same course today, same going, although 3f less. There are some other good (and also improving) horses in the race today to help prop the price up, but Soldiers Hill looks very well in at the weights, is trained by Gordon Elliot and running for a nice prize. It also has a 5lb claimer on it so, assuming he is competent (I know nothing about him), then it looked a good bet at 10/3 last night. Currently trading at 9/4 so there are plenty of other people of the same opinion as me!!! Will put it up on the selections thread in a couple of hours time unless you guys can find a hole in my analysis (and there may well be one so please let me know if you think I've overlooked anything!). Cheers, Mad. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Go for it mad, get us off to a winning start

By:
Oh dear lads - that ran **** from the moment the flag went up....no idea why.
Very sorry - hope the rest of you can make up for my abject failure! |
|
By:
Not to worry, I didn't see the race but from the running comments it sounds very much as if it wasn't really very much of a trier today!
|
|
By:
Embarrassing though when you write a short novel justifying you choice, only to see it run like that!

By:
no worries mad and no need to apologise that's for sure
Onwards and upwards |
|
By:
madhatter, your horse drifted in the few minutes before the off, perhaps THEY knew something, part of the game, just have to shrug it off and keep the faith with your reasoning.
|
|
By:
dont worry Mad that happens to us all most of the time otherwise we would all be rich and there would be no bookies onward and upwards keep the faith.

Morning all
I have looked at the 2 handicap chases at Southwell today and 2 at Perth tomorrow. The Southwell feature looks pretty tight to me with pace guaranteed - I count at least 3 front runners and a couple of prominent sorts. Being such a tight race I will give this a miss as I am fairly price sensitive re selections and can't really see the market moving too much. The two at Perth tomorrow River Frost in the 7.10 (Green & Gold) and Walkin in The Rain in the 7.40 have form against each other and should be ok in the ground if the heavens open. Sadly the connections of the former put me off and WITR was backed into fav last time out and connections may do the same again tomorrow. So I will put up Thomas Sheldon as my pick of the week in the 1.15 at Southwell. I think he only has O'Briens to beat as most are fairly exposed over fences. Hopefully he will drift in the market nearer the off. I wont post it yet in case any of you have something to add or might be thinking of posting in the same race (or the same horse!!) |
|
By:
Thanks for your thoughts on the chases this week, The Sawyer. I must admit the race you have picked is one that would be a race to avoid for me but the best of luck with Thomas Shelby. I might have been able to give you some stable information concerning the 7.10 at Perth tomorrow if you had been about to pick in that race. I find myself thinking of making a pick at Wolverhampton tomorrow but perhaps I will wise up before I actually do that, as I think I am better avoiding the all-weather.
|
|
By:
Good luck The Sawyer, coming from Brum any Peaky Blinder is fine by me ha ha.
|
|
By:
Cheers lads
would be interested in the stable info for tomorrow Aq, I think the weather may play in a big part in the outcome. I will put TS up now, although it looks as though he is going to be a lot shorter than I had hoped. |
|
By:
For those of us who have played this competition before, it is always brave to play early on in the week as your selections are prominent, whereas by Saturday they can be lost in the large number of selections being made then. So not to worry The Sawyer. I must admit that having watched the 1.15 at Southwell I don't think at any time did I think that Thomas Shelby was likely to win and it seemed a fairly laboured performance in general. Not to worry, we still have another 6 opportunities this week to come good. Sometimes it is better to lose comprehensively rather than get beaten by a nose anyway.

By:
Aquarius just sent you a pm abt one tomorrow.
|
|
By:
Cheers Aq I take your point re the timing of selections but for me I had a 2 day window this week to punt in the races I am more familiar with.
I agree that the horse didn't really travel from the start and I may have over-rated the Uttoxeter form with Kings Temptation. Plenty of options next week - mind you my form since the return of jumps racing isn't one to write home about. Good luck all for the rest of the week |
|
By:
I have decided to play today in the next at Haydock with Gometra Ginty priced about 10/1. In the circumstances I will go e.w. to try and at least get some points on the board
|

Well done Aq

Shame I didn't wait until today as my nap won at 6/1... ![]() ![]() |

Well done skipper we are on the board.

I like following trainers in form, and K Condon has been very good recently, so I am going for a win bet on his today.

Good luck qqking.

Afternoon "Racing
's"Think LIGHTNING AMBER (4.0 Leop) might run well. Decent maiden form, more than 8lb lower than opening handy mark with jock'allowance. Trip is the unknown. Gone for Win only as I think it will go off a single fig'price. Well done AQUARIUS getting some points on the board. ![]() |
