on the show, vocally JLS were very average.. 1 out of 4 could sing, 3 out of 5 of these boys can take the main part... plus they arent seen as comical/ kid act at all so they wont lose all of the older votes

JLS had quite a different image during their time on the show, compared to what we have seen since.  They were far less edgy and RnB, almost old fashioned in a Four Tops/Drifters sort of way in their suits and with their dance moves and were treated as a bit of a joke, esp early on.  It is only since they left that their true selves became apparent.

Maybe ties in with what Storm and DF were saying on TM earlier about having to change how they really wanted to be, not necessarily sing what they usually would, etc.

But squares the whole point is thatb they could all dance and put on a 'performance' whilst Wand Erection stand there like they dont know where the feck they are.

I disagree again HF :)
They look very confident and comfortable on stage to me.
A million miles better than that awful boyband Cowell had on BGT and as good as JLS at this time in their year.

Have to agree.  Don't think they're in JLS class but it's early days.  Squares rightly notes they did dtart off a bit Four Tops/ Drifters and weren't deemed that good at the start.  Weren't they bottom 2 one week?
By:
Mikeeey
When: 18 Oct 10 13:10
yep, JLS bottom 2 one week and still managed to get to 2nd place so I guess One Direction could do just as well despite having zero-talent.  Looks like they might be favourite soon.

The key in the 'talent' department argument is that more than one of them can actually sing - as pointed out above, this is probably more than JLS who were literally a one-man act. I also think talent is not just about singing in this show, it's about becoming an 'act' - these guys are an act already, probably before JLS achieved that status. (whether or not it's a true act as HF is concerned with is pretty much irrelevant to their fans/girls/mums and maybe even grannies who like their smiles and group hugs).

JLS were way down in the votes at the start of the series, and viewers warmed to them as their "journey" (*shoots self*) went on.

I think these lads will similarly win people over as time progresses. And the acts that build momentum tend to do better in the finals than the ones that were right up there form the start.

(I think. Can't be bothered checking years of voteline stats.)

the money last night / this morning has just kept on coming and coming.  As quick as i could put it up at 4.1  it was going.

chaps, i have said it since before it was official that they were formed. they are the chosen ones and they will either win or just be pipped in the final. its obvious, and i dont need to go into journeys, simon's plans etcv again, i've done it too many times. suffice to say i think 4.1 is still value as i cant see them going out before the very end.

regarding their ability, i think they sing well, apart from the asian lad, and although i dont think they look very comfortable and they cant move (check out the group song in week one to see how completely they were shown up by fyd when they first apear on stage) - i dont think that is a huge problem and if anyhting it adds to how endearing they are. they are far from perfect but they wll continue to improve, both in terms of singing and definitely in terms of group interaction. in the final they will sing somthing like words from boyzone or flying without wings, and the teeny girl vote will soar.

i think they are an absolute cracking bet. matt and mary are the only dangers and i dont think they will beat them. rebecca has become a bit disappointing to me after showing lots of promise, but i think she will go furthest of the girls.

you can deny it all you like, it is a steamroller, its pre-ordained, it wont be stopped.  they will win

One Direction backers, Lou

I agree One Direction are an outstanding bet. I've been betting them since the series began & am continuing to do so.

Rebecca & TreyC are no threat at all IMO, better singers than them have been dumped out on spurious reasons way before the final.

Mary is no SUBO.  She's a worse singer & she's not as ugly & both of those will count against any subo-style bid. No threat there.

There's a huge gap in the market for a boyband **** actually - boys. As opposed to a mid-life-crisis-band like Take That & all the other tragic reformed regurgitated acts going around just now.  OD are quite unlike anything Cowell has in his stable & he'll make a fortune out of them.

FWIW I think they have more talent than the newly-formed Westlife did too (seen that TV performance & it was dreadful) even though I can't stand the genre.  However I'm not holding out much hope for a Tom Waits style contestant anytime soon.

Anyway, in summary, fantastic bet.  And incidentally, it doesn't make sense to say that backing at 4.0 is lazy & then go on to say that they'll make the final.  If they make the final anyone who backed at 4.0 will be green all day long....

not sure why that got asterisked, it just said a boy band who are actually boys.  Maybe I abbreviated it & this forum software thought I'd typed a different thing...

Can they actually sing? Seems to me there are some distinctly weaker ones in the group and we haven't heard them do harmonies yet.

However has to be said a strong act, with the backing of the machine and the girlie vote.

how on earth are they going to win???

a)they are a group.
b)they are annoying, not the end of the world in early rounds, but not so good late on.
c)ok some of them are good looking but, they are about 12 so female votes will be lost to matt, aiden etc.
d)they are called one direction and are boring.

the only positive I can find is simon, save your money ffs

The descent to 1.01 is going very nicely. [:D]

Think more and more people are realising there is only one winner.

Good to see a couple still willing to lay though, or more then likely they aren't actually. [;)]

Do they have more voter appeal than JLS? Yes again
Will Cowell ramp them like crazy? Yes again

There is already a mass of personality and chemistry in this band, very reminiscent of a young TakeThat.

Way off imo. The 'personality' and 'chemistry' the 5 of them are desperately trying to portray is so utterly forced, contrived and manufactured it's embarrassing.

Personality & Chemistry? Not an issue. Whatever the X in X-Factor stands for it certainly isn't personality.  Just look at some of the acts that have won it..

There is some serious ramping goimg on this thread. No problems. I am a bit of a ramper myself.

I have just one thing to say.

Hits on main YT site. The Wanderers 200K. Matt half a mill.

Simon gave Matt a bad song choice and will continue to do so yet Matt keeps on  wacking them out of the ball park and blowing the girls socks off. I actaully did not find it a pleasant ditty Simons going to have give Matt a song that really suits him eventually.

One of Miss Direction is alread clearly stressed at having to pretend to love 4 other lads he never picked as mates. If one of these is an @rsehole e.g Liam then this band falls apart.

Too much falsetto Matts not comfortable. He uses some but not this much. Needs more lower register. He has got a warmth in his voice they are not letting him show. And he does fk up on the warbling. He is a musician he knows this high notes contest is w@nk. Its undermining.

Why were they 6.0 48 hours ago, and now 3.75? Have I missed something, I saw the semi gash performance. I'd be concerned with the monster push that someone knows the votes akin to the Daily Star leak (Eoghans year). Never my thing the O/R, prefer having a pelt at the eviction if I'm in, but this move massively intrigues me. Halved in price basically on the back of a very average performance imho.

That said Matt's made the exact same move in the market too. Is it because the opposition is weak.

Mary, cracking singer, but going to look cabaret 7 weeks on.
Ferguson, lacking any real X Factor.
Aiden, singing like a turkey.

I reckon that means there is value elsewhere then, as 3.8 about these two looks too short at this stage. Johns sang pretty well so far, and at 60s has to be worth a poke, and I thought Katie was the peformance of the night, so at 44s can't be ignored.

angela, simply no chance for john or katie petal, no voting core

Price movement is odd - but it's been apparent from the start that these 5 have been put together for a reason. Both Liam and Harry would have been in the final 8 otherwise.

Value elsewhere? Cher maybe detestable to everyone on here but she will have a strong fanbase amongst voters. Aiden has proven to be capable of a good performance to collapse the market and Paige looks huge at three figures. He's bound to get a good slot next week and has the ability to do well.

there's a move because it's week 3

and the market needs these plunges to keep everyone on their game ..it's what we do.

didn't help Rachel much topping the vote in week 3 last year.

Whats so amusing about a voting leak theory! It happened 2 years ago!!!

Market does love a random plunge though, agreed! Cool

They do look the 2 right favourites though,

One Direction are dire, and also my other green.

I'm not sure the cowell ramping has much of an impact these days, but it certainly helps to have him onside with stuff like song choices, slots, styling, ad breaks, editing, sob stories all that type of stuff.

Don't get why people think Cowell will be desperate for One D to win, just listened to Week 2 again and they were vocally shocking. Cowell always wants a credible act, his ego wouldn't allow for anything else, Cardle for me.
