Jim Courier was ramping for ages, going on and on about Zverev cramping and being given tablets in an unprecedented scene by Melo who wasn't medical professional, ffs he had a bit of stiffness and took some routine diabetic tablets

First German male slam winner 30 odd years, 121 slams ago, since Becker Aus 96
edy would be so proud, he was about 60 years old then |
By:
3*-2 and we would still be in for some potential epic muggery, this feels too much though obviously never say never with Alex

Tennis legend Boris Becker's career win-loss record on clay courts stands at 120 wins and 61 losses (a 66.3% winning rate). Despite reaching six finals on the surface, he never won a clay-court singles title during his professional career

First French Open German winner in 89 years, the last guy died fighting the Russians in the battle of Stalingrad at the age of 27

Enemy at the gates not a bad film but seems to suffer from factual balence, the German sixth army led by Paulus took one hell of a beating.
Who would Z fight for? |
By:
Folded near the end
By:
what a fitting end, pair of mugs
By:
Zverev deserved it for sure this year. Fair play.
By:
won one the only way he was ever going to. with ridiculous amount of good fortune in who he met along the way.
By:
Can't begrudge him after some of his previous years in big matches.
By:
lucky he was playing a mug
showed signs he would've struggled against a top player but u can only beat who turns up against you could go on and win more but i somehow doubt it albeit he defo has the talent |
By:
only way he wins another one is if theres another tournament like this one. which there wont be. this has been a generational french for gubbings

Becker was close to winning a singles clay-court tournament in his last final on the surface, when he led Thomas Muster by two sets to love in the 1995 Monte Carlo Open final, and double-faulted on match point in the fourth-set

even tho' it went 5
u sort of always knew Cobolli wouldn't get it done so,altho'there were plenty of shocks and intriguing matches both finals were somewhat anti climactic and basically 'faita accomlis' in all but name enjoyed the fortnight nonetheless always thought the RG on clay was rather mickey mouse in light of the surface but last few years have changed my opinion and really appreciate it now |

By:
fking keyboard..faits accomplis

By:
It's SW19 that's a bit MM and right on cue the rain is due too.
By:
had to laugh at that random comment by Cobolli that wasn't in sync with what he was talking about "my mum is alive so I'm very happy "

Yeah the audience went very flat at that

Normally when a player wins a slam you expect huge rise up the rankings if they're not a big named player, or at least 1 or 2 places if you're a member of the elite such as a Carlos or Jannick.
Zverev stays exactly where he is in 3rd. |
By:
He stays in third because he won without Sinner or Alcaraz being in the championship ( Sinner effectively retired due to sickness) He is not a better player than either of those when fit.
By:
That's not how rankings work, he couldn't move up any position regardless of whether sinner or Alcaraz were both there or not, you defend your points, max 1600pts for him as he reach quarters last year (400pts), not enough even with Alcaraz out who lost 2000pts for not being there, a 3600pts swing on Carlos and he's still 2600+pts behind him in the rankings, Sinner lost 1250 pts for bein KO'D in the 2nd after reaching the final last year, and is still 6000+pts ahead of Alex. Nobody said or thinks that he's better than either or them, never has or never will be. He's definitely good for a slam though on talent alone.
Zverev however could move back up to peak number 2 position at Wimbledon, Alacraz not playing so would lose pts from Wimbledon final and Queens win, Alex could make semi's at Wimbledon to overtake him, think he might need to win Stuttgart for that though as well, if he's runner up in Stuttgart again, think he's have to make the Wimbledon final to move up to 2nd. Sinner could pull out of SW19 and still be cruising at the top. |
By:
Both had some fairly massive nerves in that final - but to be fair, why would they not have, given neither had won a GS before this.
Cob obviously never even been in a final either - given that, some of the rallies they produced were excellent, along with some of the chokey points both produced at times. |
By:
Should also note Zverev had the disadvantage of having to play a full extra match also!
