if he ran for presidency in Serbia, how big would the victory margin be?
By:
but maybe he himself actually has super powers if he can win an R16 match and play for +4hs with a torn meniscus.
By:
Yeah, I really can't get my head around that if that is the official diagnosis which is being speculated. The human body with adrenaline and medication can do incredible things it seems

More evidence that tennis barely has any bigger physicality than chess.

Matthew Willis @mattracquet
·6m Main question for Djokovic is what kind of meniscus tear he has. Small avascular area tear that can be excised/trimmed? Very quick rehab and return (Fritz was back playing within 3 weeks for e.g). Bigger tear that needs surgical repair + healing? 6 months or more recovery Matthew Willis @mattracquet He mentioned having pain in that area for weeks before Roland Garros so could easily have been dealing with a slightly damaged meniscus for a while before the slip made it worse. He also still moved well (for a torn meniscus) for rest of the match so hopefully it's a minor tear |

He somewhat seems to have drawing power towards people that are above average inclined to really be into showing off a persecution complex regarding themselves and Djokovic, yes.

Iga at her young age already has the 5th most bagels served at Roland Garros, trailing Evert (26), Graf, Serena and Seles. Iga has 14.

Personally, I think that it would have been better if Djokovic had retired gracefully yesterday and not denied Cerundolo his moment with his selfish gamesmanship. And that's not only because I would've won money, instead of losing. But because it seemed unfair on Cerundolo, using every trick in his extensive repertoire of sh!thousery to scrape through only to retire anyway.
By:
Same was said about Nadal vs Fritz, but of course they players don't know how bad the injury is so you try to win the match today and hope things get better tomorrow. If Novak had retired every time he had a niggle at a tournament, his Slam tally would be at about 15, not 24.
By:
If Cerundolo can't beat a player with a torn meniscus, he doesn't deserve to be in a Grand Slam QF.
By:
Completely agree SMB with both posts
By:
Cerundolo might not have deserved to go through, but Ruud doesn't deserve a bye to the semi's and Zverev should he get there doesn't deserve to have had far less rest than Ruud making it an unfair contest.
By:
I take your point. I just would have preferred if Ruud had to play a match rather than get a walkover. Maybe Zverev and Minaur would feel the same way. I fully understand the argument that Cerundolo wasn't good enough, though.

By:
it's a case of sods law, what Federer did one year at the French was far far worse, he beat a player knowing full well he was going to pull out the next round - he wasn't injured, he just didn't feel he could win the tournament and wanted to save his legs for Wimbledon, think it was against Koepfer

The only time someone treated RG as a warm-up to Wimbledon.

Would have been nicer for us to have 4 QF's of course, but this is how tennis is sometimes. As far as Zverev/ADM having a disadvantage compared to Ruud in the semis, this would be minimal given how the Slam format is. In fact, there have been times where players who had a bye had their rhythm messed with due to having three-four days off, mostly Novak Djokovic at the French Open 2011 where he had QF bye against Fognini and then lost to Federer in the semis. But all in all, tiny tiny advantage Ruud when taking everything into consideration.
By:
yeah but that was Federer, nothing to do with having rhythm broken. Any player would take a bye all day long

and twice on Sunday

One of the main reasons why Murray lost so many slam finals was in part due to the fact he had such a draining game, by the time he got to the final, he'd more often than not had far more court time than his opponent, like when he collapsed like a sack of spuds against Novak in the Oz final last set

You think a player would rather risk the thought of playing a draining 5 set match, esp if it's night session, than just having a bye into the next round, free ranking points, free prize money, fresher for the next opponenet....over 'rhythm'? I don't think so
By:
they wouldn't but lack of match play and rhythm is often mentioned as a negative in sports. Ideally you would play, keep the rhythm, win easily and not get injured but since those are not guarantees they would pick the freebee.
