Simona Halep is back!
Not an easy draw though. Paula Badosa in R1 and if she gets past her Aryna Sabalenka and her new teeth await in R2.
The rest of the draw can be seen here, and of course we are two matches away from another Swiatek vs Noskova match.

I would think a double withdrawal has happened before, but it has to be quite rare.

Seems a bit fishy to not say what the injury is. But let's assume it's a legit injury, would it just be to not expose any weakness to future opponents?

That kind of sounds like maybe they played each other. They didn't. Seidel went down on cypric clay to Boisson at W35 level, Gibson won indoors against Tikhonova, who is quite good on hard courts even at higher ITF level.
