this would be very nice for Danielle if she won a huge tournament in her final season. not 100% she's gonna make it but would be very happy for her if she can pull it through

Danielle and Elena definitely aren't friends outside of the court. Rybakina has looked so awkward during this whole ceremony

she's not gonna reverse it. She wants kids nowish. MAYBE she'll have kids Wozniacki style and THEN return to the tour once she's all done with that if her body is cooperating. It was cool that she won this title though. She has been one of the best players (when playing her peak stuff) over the past 5 years and doesn't get credit enough. Just look at outright markets, she's never near the top for big tournaments.

I discussed this with caramba a while back but DRC winning a slam was always going to be fantastic for tennis in the States.
Ok Miami is about three (four?) steps back from a slam but it's a big one and it's fantasic she's landed it (convincingly too, against one of the fake big 3).

Let's have some chat show appearances on Kimmel etc even while she runs the clock down for having kids etc. Come on America this is a true apple pie local sports heroine that ticks all the boxes.

Oh and I'm closing the book on Osaka. She's entered into enough to convince me she's not going to vanish into the air for clay season so yes she's going to hit 20.

Naomi even chose to play Rouen instead of Stuttgart to get easier opponents and possibly more match play on the dirt.

yeah, Naomi's recent tweet about looking forward to the clay sealed it for me.
Would be great if the talk shows got Collins on. Amercian, great looks and that feisty personality Americans love (funnily enough she's been rather reserved on court this year when I have been watching) and also a medical situation which will win her lots of sympathy. They should have marketed Sloane harder 7-8 years ago but they probably figured "nah, we have Serena so why bother". But they don't now.

Miami's a 1000 event so in theory a 3rd step level tourney behind winning a slam and winning the WTA Finals/Olympics. but Miami always seems a poor 1000 event when it comes right after Indian Wells which always gets alot of attention. would you say Indian Wells is the best 1000 tournament of the season?

IW is called the 5th Slam for a reason. The top names come there fresh as most will have had a relaxed schedule since the US Open, and there's no Slam to worry about in the near future as is the case with Madrid and Rome and the NA hardcourt summer masters. If you look at the men's side, it's almost unheard of that someone plays Miami and skips IW whereas the other way around has been rather common in recent years as Rafa, Novak and Roger have all done that at various times.
