fuck off please

funny how Barty and Andreescu are faves (Barty 1st, Bianca 3rd) for Australian Open when the former won't have played in 10 months and the latter not in 14 months.

Might have to go and look at the market and see what is on offer there.
By:
just took Iga so now I have Iga at 40 and Vika at 23-26. No liquidity in market here, but hoping for those odds to be shorter here once the market forms.
By:
When is the AO scheduled this year? Melbourne is on very stringent lockdown atm, but summer is coming.
By:
That Iga bet could be quite a good one. Is she ok on HC?
By:
mid January as always.

Cant even find IGA on betfair AO market. Did you get on another market? I see Barty is favourite at 9's. That is intersting too.
By:
Yeah, they haven't added Iga here. I got it elsewhere.
By:
Why are the comms on my tv calling Iga, Swiantek?
By:
As is swee on tek?

Ahha that makes sense, from the horses own mouth. Cheers.

Good start so for.

https://www.espn.co.uk/tennis/story/_/id/30045949/serena-williams-roger-federer-play-2021-australian-open
From three days ago ....... Serena Williams and Roger Federer have confirmed that they will compete at the 2021 Australian Open, and the tournament hopes to host spectators who will make up 25-50% of the seating capacity at the tournament's three main arenas. Craig Tiley, the Australian Open tournament director and CEO of Tennis Australia, the governing body of the sport Down Under, informed media outlets on Sunday of those commitments. He also provided a broad outline of TA's plans for the tournament euphemistically known as "the Happy Slam." "We've been talking to them [top players] every week," Tiley said in a video conference. "Roger [Federer] confirmed he'll be here. Serena also will be here, obviously trying to get Margaret Court's [career Grand Slam singles titles] record." |
By:
25-50%. sounds realistic
By:
Keep it empty for a couple of days then go full capacity the next day to make up for it

I know it's unlikely, just pointing out the absurdity of having won 4 out of 5 latest Slams and still not be no 1.
Podoroska another one being screwed over by only getting to keep this result on her ranking for 8 months. |

There must be players getting super screwed by system in terms of getting into slams that will be worth relative loads to those players, but I'm too lazy to work out who is benefitting. But #100 has gone up from like 650 to 750 points and will keep going up until points actually drop from rankings, as you can't lose points atm, only gain. This system will be conning someone out of $50k every slam of course.
By:
it's not like any of them are short odds. Just a hard market to price up. But I'd have Naomi clear fave above those two.
By:
Osaka should be fav for AO if you were going to create a perfect market. In reality very hard to price up the field beyond that, and probs won't actually get much of a view until Brisbane 2021.
On this btw have heard rumours it will be Brisbane/Canberra and Adelaide/Hobart the first 2 weeks of season. |
By:
By:
How short should Osaka actually be. Like 7s maybe.
By:
The ones sitting out have nothing to lose if they had good results in 2019.
By:
I see Djoker is sitting at about 2.20 and though about laying him but then realised there is no one in the draw that is going to realistically challenge him. Anyone else on the mens side have any chance at all?
By:
You don't lose anything from playing tyco, so playing doesn't screw you. You get screwed by virtue of points earned now, especially in these clay events mean less as they only last on your ranking 8 months and there's no play for 3 months of that so no benefit from what you gained (due to lack of events post-RG).
Meanwhile there are people who did well post-USO 2019 and they hold those points until post-USO 2021, so can be doing terrible but their ranking won't go down. |
By:
As in Barty, it would not matter to her ranking if she went to play French Open this year and won, lost in r1 or sat at home. She'll get to keep her 2,000 pts for winning it in 2019 regardless.
By:
Konta and Vondrousova lost R1 here at RG, both keep their SF and F points from last year, a complete joke, but done I assume to not incentivise not playing.

I'd love to know if Barty still collects all sponsorship bonuses in these times. As normally there's big bonuses for being #1. It will depend on contract as can't imagine sponsors would want to pay out on a player not playing, but could be a great con if they can't get out which is very possible.
By:
Yer Barty is a ridiculous beneficiary. She won the YEC last year. Those points won't come off until YEC 2021, like 5 months later than this RG and Rome will come off players rankings. And of course she has RG from last year, which will come off same time, so she is sitting super safe in #1 spot unless Osaka goes on a tear start of next year.
By:
It affects players in different ways too. Caramba made a good point with Podoroska, before this event her ranking isn't high enough to get in any tour level events. It will after this, however there's no events until 2021 to enter, it means she gets that benefit for like 5 months before RG rather than the usual 12, and if she doesn't win much on mostly hard court at start of next season she will face ranking collapse pretty quickly after RG next year.
By:
By:
Iga would only be ranked #17 if she wins RG too, which is very low, I think normally she'd be about #11 with her points tally she'd have.
And she has literally nowhere to play for rest of season, she would very likely get a top 20 WC into Ostrava if she wanted it, but she has to win RG to be eligible, otherwise would have to play qualifying. |
By:
Podoroska screwd over big time. But at least she secures main entry to AO, RG and Wimbledon with this, right?
