Any sportsman who sinks as low as Djokovic does with his gamesmanship is definitely nasty.

U.S. Open ratings, down 45%. Yesterday, the winner of the previous Major gassed out after 5 hrs...Schedule congested, the 12x champ finished his match at 1:30 am.. we can weigh arguments and decide Bo5 is still preferable. But nothing-to-see-here-folks is not the answer.

Jon, have you seen the recents ratings for all US sport and especially the NBA finals currently? Why are you trying to make this a tennis specific issue when clearly it’s not and certainly not a Bo5 issue. Best ratings here yesterday were? Answer - Thiem-Schwartzman Bo5

UK loves a best of 5.

That is really reaching anyway. I don't buy for a second best of 5 was the problem with ratings in US, more the fact the final was 2 unknowns in America. A lot of big names didn't even turn up in first place, that was the real problem.

The 5th set in the final was actually the best by far from drama point of view. The first 4 sets were crap.

U.S. Open ratings, down 45%.
sports ratings in US down in general in the covid-era. unclear why, perhaps people miss the atmosphere that comes with filled arenas. and biggest reason though is no Roger or Rafa and no Serena or even another American in the final.

Yesterday, the winner of the previous Major gassed out after 5 hrs...
Only 2 weeks between Slams (because this is an unprecedented year), he had a stomach bug days before, played way too much in the summer (because that's what he does). Regardless of which of these was the main contributor, there was reasons why he wasn't as fit as he normally is and him gassing is imo not a vaild argument against bo5.

Schedule congested, the 12x champ finished his match at 1:30 am..
these were scheduling issues because of bad weather the day before. what does him being 12x champ have to do with anything? Someone had to be last. If they had moved either Iga or Rafa, there would have been massive complaints about women's tennis having to play 2nd fiddle again, even if Rafa would have been moved to Lenglen because 95% of the crowd would have gone where Rafa's match was and Iga/Trev would have been played in front of their coaches and friends. We've had far later finishes than 1:30 am in tennis, even in bo3 tournaments, I don't see the problem.

no problem with people arguing against bo5, but please bring better arguments.

I mean how is tennis being down because of bo5? Was it bo3 all these previous years?

ratings are down because people miss the sense of importance a large crowd creates for an event. the masses have been conditioned that full crowds = must see = exciting. no crowd = not worth your time

the 1:30am finish is terrible for your "premium product" your 12x champ playing in a GS QF. it needs to be played at primetime. this isn't a crappy tour event

No chance imo. I don't buy this idea slams will ever move to best of 3. I know some journalists (Americans basically) claiming it's inevitable, I really don't see it. For one you invalidate the entire history book by making slams best of 3, I can't see the top players ever agreeing to that.

you think best of 5 sets will still be here 10 years from now? 15 years from now?

they'll eventually have to adapt to make sure they're capturing enough of the younger audience. there's so much competition now

funny how opponents know about his tricks and it's still get into their heads. Busta doesn't say it did, but he fell apart early in 2nd. Murray has admitted he has lost focus in matches because of it.

The younger audience not watching sports is a bigger problem. You go chasing them, you will just haemorrhage more viewers imo.

Yer the chance was there early on in 2nd and PCB didn't take it. When Novak does this you really have to hammer home the advantage when he's on walkabouts.

I see TF has cottoned on to the farce that is the WTA rankings (though ATP is the same). That this RG is pretty useless ranking wise. You defend the points in 8 months. Barty has a truckload of points from Asian swing and YEC from last year that don't fall off until October 2021.

Kenin actually most screwed of all if she were to win the title, as in normal times she'd be #1. But in these times she will be nowhere near, and on top of that have a terrible platform to even chase #1 as she would defend the first 2 slams to start 2021.

Any players with points from end of 2019 are ridiculously protected. It's just silly those points stay on your ranking more than the players who have been playing in 2020, how does that make any sense at all?
By:
n88uk
When: 07 Oct 20 23:50
Sabalenka another huge beneficiary, won Wuhan and the already inflated Zhuhai in 2019, not done much recently, but will hold those points forever.

Steve Simon OUT
By:

When: 07 Oct 20 23:57
It just makes the rankings stupid until basically the end of 2021 now. They aren't gonna reflect reality at all. Konta and Vondrousova are ludicrously overranked on actual results, they just kept their 2019 points despite totally flopping in the same events in 2020.

Another thing is it ruins like the weeks at #1 stat. Barty is going to clock up an insane number of weeks as #1 because of the system. The only player with any real platform to challenge her #1 in first half of next year is Osaka, as Osaka actually doesn't defend too much first half of season and has USO (and Beijing from 2019) being over half her ranking at end of year.

Steve Simon should go really, WTA have been completely inept. And like I say, where on earth is he, he should at least be making statements, he's completely anonymous.

It's actually kinda funny just how bad Kenin would get screwed if she won RG. For all intents and purposes she should have been #1, but she would pretty much have no shot of getting there anytime soon, she'd have to win AO and FO again just to stay in the picture Crazy.

wait. if she wins RG here, and then AO and RG in 2021 (and will have won 4 of the latest 5 Slams), she'll still not be world no 1? That can't be right?

Its because of the Black Lies Matter and other woke BS that is going on in the US that ordinary folk have turned off sports. NBA and NFL are afflicted badly. Go woke, go broke. I hope that idiot Lebron realises soon that his and other activist player actions are going to cause the future players a lot of pay cuts and grief.
