It's probably as simple as someone says something needs to happen in power, and that's going to happen now. Players will support it, and TV (thus money) will support it too.
12-12 seems fine to me, realistically how many matches go beyond 12-12 that aren't servebot fests? Has to be an unbelievably small %, as shown by I can only remember 1 women's match going past this distance off the top of my head. So you're really not knocking many classics, and matches like yesterday aren't classics, probably 95% of the audience was just waiting for that to end and that's not a good look. |

You see a lot of 9-7 type scorelines in the 5th, so I think you would see a very small number of final set tiebreaks. Would actually be interested if they bring that in how many final set 12-12 tiebreaks would you get across the 3 slams that would do it? Probably like 1-2 all year.
By:
Not worth bothering putting in a tiebreak in 5th set if you want to do it at 12-12
By:
Middle Sunday is going to be hardest of those to overcome. The queue is showing some signs of weakening, albeit I think we're some way from anything happening. But people are waking up to the lunacy and questioning aspects of it, and you saw in that Tennis Podcast poll a while it's pretty much 50:50 for and against the queue.

But all you really want to do is make the schedule run. If the final set TB is at 12-12, the schedule won't overrun. No idea what time yday hit 12-12, but the final set began at 4:45pm and finished at what about 7:45pm? So it would have been over probably about 6:30pm then.

I guess you're gonna say rain delays of past were different, but they aren't that much different in sense that its exceptional circumstances which have led to this undesirable situation. But I remember rain delays leading to many undesirable situations too.

very cheap hold

By:
When was the roof actually confirmed as happening, as I'd assume the mess that was 2007 had an influence in speeding up plans as that year was farcical with the delays and scheduling.
By:
rain delays is nothing to do with being forced back because of men's tennis
By:
so what's your solution, mes?
By:
They are both forcing it back though, and the result is no different, in fact rain delays are worse as then you generally have no idea when you will be coming on.
By:
Put the womens final on court 1 in these situations. Simple.
By:
The only solution was they probably should have started at 12, I don't think any earlier was viable.
By:
quick scan through the draws so may be wrong but;
2018 matches beyond 6-6, 12-12 - 5, 4 2017 - 3,1 2016 - 7,4 2015 - 7,0 2014 - 3,1 |

By:
Nadal thinks he's Pete Sampras
By:
My solution was to have the men's semi resumption played after the women's match had finished then have the mens' final on Monday so it doesn't clash with the World Cup final that will take away a lot of the viewership.
By:
also, i think i may have put 13-11's in both sections the first few times but too lazy to check through

By:
oh no Rafa

That's way too much upheaval though Mes, they were never doing that.
I'd love to know if this whole the players had a choice stuff was true. But even so was silly anyway, why on earth were they going to choose to go after women's final, the winner of this is back out at 2pm, they aren't gonna choose to potentially play late into the evening tonight. |
