that stands to reason, serve and volley died out about 20 years ago , they're bound to not have a great net game unless top singles players regularly play doubles which they don't, it's baseline game on all surfaces so rarely do they practice a playing deep within the court, players like McEnroe from the stone age of Tennis had to play closer to his oppoenet at the net as that's where most points where won, thus being more adept from that position.
