Serena is shorter than she has been for I think the last 3 Australian Opens 4 and a half months after giving birth.

Was a cesarean section, she'll start training next month, 3 and half months preperation is ample time and she will come in fresher than anyone else, like Federer did taking 6 months off last year.

From the evidence I've seen from other tennis mums so far, they cuddle their babies all day instead of practicing.

Serena isn't like other tennis players

It's a huge ask whatever way you spin it to win the AO.

btw, who's favourite for the AO and who actually goes on to win it aren't the same thing. the markets don't know anything as they don't even bother watching half the matches and learning the players properly so just go with what you know over what the market tries to "tell you".

I know the spin come AO is going to be Clijsters did it, but Clijsters did it 2 years after giving birth. 4 and a half months is a huge ask, I'm not convinced Serena will even play, as I don't think she will be ready.

Not spinning it anyway, it's not a huge ask, Venus has got to slam final aged 37, why wouldn't Serena younger and fresher?

The odds at this point are always a joke Wisewords, as they were normally done like 8 months ago and barely touched since apart from players like Stephens hammered in at whatever price she was before.

She's not Clijsters, she's about 19 Grand Slams better

I think Serena will play, and will go close to winning. Not sure if she'll actually win though.

Because her body will be weaker. Her core strength will be weaker in Australia as it takes about a year for your muscles to knit back together properly.

Is 2010-11 her last long absence? For that one she came back at Eastbourne, was muggy those first weeks but then started GOATing in one of the US events, I think Stanford.

Will the court be fast again in Australia this year? does anybody know?
By:

they were some suepr fast courts this year, hence Venus and Roger loving them.

Serena's no young mum.

Sorry to go a bit off topic, but why does the crowd go silent everytime before the serve? Wouldn't the game be exciting to watch if the crowd was cheering non-stop like in football or cricket? On occasions like bps and second serve the pressure could be imense if the crowd is making noise.

She done well at US events, but Serena was far from amazing in that comeback for quite a while, she was good in US season (but mugged USO final), but she was pretty poor start of 2012. It wasn't until Charleston 2012 she final started to get going. And that was still followed by more mugging even then at French Open, so you could argue it took like a year for her to reach the peak of her powers again.

Lets look forward instead of back. It's not the same Serena now and she's coming back in different circumstances.

The players give very evil stares to you if you make a noise when they attempt to serve.

The thing with Serena imo is Serena relies a lot on a massively strong core strength. I'm not convinced at all she will regain this in 4 and a half months.

until that question is answered about the courts, it's virtually impossible to predict anything anyway.

Is just the way tennis has always been.

Maybe, but it wouldn't wash because players aren't used to it. If these were the rules then maybe, but I can't see it changing.

which theyll stop doing if there is nonstop noise.

I'm not sure they want the latter either on like break points where like the crowd goes wild putting the pressure on.

The courts are likely to be fast like last year. Probably be same courts.

she could have given birth on Christmas day and still come back and win Australia ffsLaugh

She was absolutely horrific at the French when she beat Lucie in the final, very unwell and on the verge of tears in every match and she still won, she may not have just given birth but the standard to beat is not exactly Graf or even Henin era

She had GOATed hard in a lot of those matches at French after digging her own holes by playing terribly.

if there was constant noise it wouldn't be so disturbing for players, but imagine you were in some place like Guangzhou court 2 with two people in the stands and one of them shouts MARCO just as you're about to serve. It wouldn't work, so therefore the silence rule is the best way to go imo.
