Remember when Vera won Guangzhou?

You would see a lower standard of play with noise in crowds where it's just a frenzy the whole time. As hearing the ball is part of tennis. If you can't hear it, the standard twill go down.

Look how often Osty gets big courts, not that often.
By:
Looks like I've lost the US Open comp, only 9 aces.
By:
Sloane will get the big courts in the US, but not elsewhere.
By:
Yeah but Osty is Latvian.
By:
Not like Alona got the big courts, despite winning RG.
By:
At least Osty will get to lose her first round match at Roland Garros 2018 on Chatrier.
By:
Yer but being American only benefits you court wise really in America, of course that's big given like 1/3 of the tour is in America.
By:
Yeah but Sloane isn't just American, she's got a huge personality. For example, if Madison Keys had won last night, she wouldn't have got as much attention for winning as Sloane has gotten.
By:
Even in America she's gonna face stiff opposition though. At these joint events you've only got like 3 spots max for WTA matches. Serena is guaranteed, Venus guaranteed, Sharapova might be guaranteed at many of them, doesn't leave space for much else, when you consider everything else they have to cover.
By:
She probably would given media was pushing Keys harder pre-match.
By:
They're not going to favour Sharapova over Sloane after this.
By:
Especially in America ffs.
By:
Wait, are you hinting that Serena might play more than 5 events next season?
By:
Sloane is not Box office, doesn't have a Box Office game or an interesting personality in particular.
By:
No mesmermised, Sloane IS Box Office.
By:
Sharapova has a lot of events in her pocket Wisewords. IMG power, I think Sloane is with IMG too, but Sharapova will still get it I bet over her.
By:
crowd mugging.
By:
Eisenbud girls get the big courts.
By:
By:
It also kinda depends what Sloane does in the next 6 months. Tour isn't back in USA until IW.
If Sloane does nothing between now and then, she will find it harder to get bigger courts. If she keeps winning then she will defo get big courts. |
By:
So you guys don't see Sloane as a huge crossover tennis star over the next few years? Just me who thinks that?
By:
Depends what she does Wisewords.
By:
Like, she's gonna be way more popular than anyone else active you can name bar Serena, Venus, Sharapova.
By:
If she's one like 4 slams by end of 2019 then she will have star potential. But I don't think that will happen. If she's still sitting on 1 slam at end of 2019 then no chance.
By:
and Serena, Venus are super old and won't be around forever.
By:
We will see what ratings this US final got first to see if captured imagination. If it bombed, not a good sign.
By:
she has potential, but is nowhere near the Williams sisters or Masha at the moment.
By:
ESPN's only had the tournament since last year or so.
By:
(for US Open on ESPN)
By:
I dunno how many followers she had on Twitter before this tournament, but Stephens only has 159k Twitter followers. I reckon she had more than 60k before USO though, if so she's gained less followers as a result than Osty did at the French.
By:
She's an outside court sort of player, nobody is going to be queuing for Sloane's matchesm they would for the William's sisters of Sugarpova.
By:
which of course was a super lame final from a US perspective. I was gonna ask what Serena-Woz did in 2014 but phorum mugged.
By:
What number was it Wisewords?
By:
By:
Serena-Woz did 3.7-4.0 iirc. Serena-Vika x2 did like 4.7-4.9.
The non-Serena finals done like 1.0-1.5. |
