She's having to play well. I wouldn't say she's had to absolute beast though. Halep's game is pretty suited to her. Halep's rally balls don't really rush her.

Muguruza had lot of success by simply taking Sharapova's time away.

The way to beat Sharapova on clay imo is to either take her time away with heavy groundstrokes. Or to start using angles, drop shots, clay craft. There isn't really anyone around anymore that can do the latter.
