She was 6th at this time last year. The entire season has been played on her best surface. She's average on clay and grass. She won 5 matches at her next 6 events this time last year.

She won 5 matches on clay last year ;[p? Even in her heyday she wasn't as conistent on clay. Isn't her entire clay resume(real clay before you cite green clay) a Stuttgart F, Madrid F, French Open QF and that's about it.

Sabine should have never lost the match she did lose here.

Don't agree that Charleston has a particularly poor spot in the calender. It's not like there's anything important in Europe to rush to next week and the players are in the US anyway. While green clay is different from red clay they are transitioning between surfaces anyway, it's not like it's a green clay tournament in the middle of the hardcourt season.

We'll see about Woz, I think she'll be in the same position, attractive to tournament organizers etc, a few years from now.

;[p, yes Lisicki excelling on green surfaces has been a theory of mine for quite some time now. Was very happy to see her deliver a double bagel in the 1st round, but was then even more disappointed when she lost in the next round. Don't know about Paszek, think it's just grass for her and not so much the color.

i extended ur great theory on paszek as it fits prefectly, i think it maybe was too dark for sabine and she couldnt distinct between grey nad green, just a theory

To make it clear caramba. I think Woz will be in similar position too. But that position becomes less attractive when that just appears your normal position, as opposed to maybe just a blip or slump.

On Charleston its spot is poor. The top players aka the draw cards probably just went deep in Indian Wells and Miami, they want to now take time off to prepare on clay for the clay season. They certainly don't want to be playing on a surface that doesn't exist anywhere else.

Paszek will fall off the face of the rankings after Eastbourne and Wimbledon, no way she defends those points.

Could Serena at least make it look like she's trying to win return games.

sabine has played well in charleston before, so I don't think it's that. it could have been fear after the injury she suffered here last year (dangerous courts ffs), or it could be that her confidence is so low these days that even green surfaces don't help anymore. I certainly hope that's not the case.

Wtf. Serbia are playing Bozoljac and Zimonjic in the doubles vs the Bryans?
