scoreboard there is only for reference. You have to be responsible for your own bets - and mistakes do happen. Even if they reverse the players' names for the duration of the match and pay on the wrong winner. It doesn't matter what happens in play, they treat it as a pre match bet.

yep leefee, BF are covered totally.
from a punter's point of view, i feel some people here have been thieved. it would be a gesture of goodwill for betfair to void the market, because i think that over 90% of the winnings have gone into the pockets of the courtsiders. but they won't do that, it would set a bad precedent because similar things have happened previously and will continue to happen. bottom line is that betfair need to sort out their data feeds - their ridiculously late suspensions on spanish games shown on sky last season was an absolute farce, and i'm amazed that watchdog/ofcom etc haven't looked further into these incidents. |

This match should be voided for the following reasons:
1) A moral judgement needs to be made on the enormity of the error that occurred. Many sites were affected by this. 2) If Betfair paid out on Isner winning (before reversing the result) they used the same incorrect info that punters did - how can they then claim that punters were wrong to use that same information to bet with during the match - a contradiction in terms. 3) It would be logical and fair, given the circumstances, for Betfair to not void all bets placed before the match, but void all bets made during the match. 4) The likelyhood is that Betfair knew that something was wrong and will be seen to be taking advantage of the situation. 5) It is not in Betfair's interest to dismiss these live scoring systems out of hand by not voiding this event, as they have and will continue to make more money than this match has made from people continuing to use such scoring services. Such mistakes have and will happen by these systems and steps need to be made to ensure that these are reduced or negated completely. Betfair is a big enough player to enable such a process. |
|
By:
you should email that to them joe, nicely put
|
|
By:
6) Betfair will probably loose more money than they would gain form this match (by not voiding it) from the loss of confidence in Betfair and their policies.
I understand they state that external live scoring systems are not the responsibility of Betfair etc., but given that it was the central scoring system for virtually all scoring sites that was affected (not just one or two sites), a gesture of good will is needed here. |

I doubt betfait cares about things like slow/f-ake SB's manipulators, courtsiders or f--ixed matches. If they cared they wouldn't be a profitable company but a charitable organisation. It all goes with the territory.

Who is in the wrong ?
The People who are backing Isner at say 1.3 and lower thinking hes the winner and someone is making a huge mistake Or The people laying Isner at say 1.3 and lower known he hasn't won :| |

I was advised this evening to contact IBAS (Independent Adjudication Service Ltd - link is at the bottom of the Betfair home page) and raise this with them in hope that they can investigate the situation further and work with Betfair to arrive at a decision about this event.

3) It would be logical and fair, given the circumstances, for Betfair to not void all bets placed before the match, but void all bets made during the match.
They should either void all bets OR leave as is....It would be unfair to anyone who (including me) backed Isner pre-match but left a stake recovering lay in the system using the keep bet option. As it stands I have no win/loss because that lay was matched, if you void inplay bets I'll lose the stake. |

at the end of the day betfair is about people with good info and brain taking money of the big sea of mug fish, this is no different from every other market, look at the baseball now, some people know a tem is winning 3-1 cos they are watching LIVE, some are using Gameday and think its 1-1.

Mike Cattermole famously called the wrong horse in a finish a few months ago. I'm sure the people who were backing it and getting what they thought were great odds got no recompense and neither should anyone on this game of tennis.

Still settled as a loss on my Hills account.
Personally think it should be voided on here, well all in-play bets at least. |
|
By:
ash hight punter ..... in answer to your question, if the bets during the match are void, no punters lose. Betfair should have voided the match before making a decision on this result and paying out. It should be their loss for not taking into consideration of the enormity of the situation and paying out, not the punter who has been unfortunate enough to believe scoring systems that very rarely go wrong. Otherwise, there is simply no way for punters to be assured that scoring systems are true and will be of detriment to Betfair in the short to medium-term future.

The point is though Mu MU, no-one is forcing you to bet if you have an informational disadvantage.
You took that decision. There are plenty of televised sports to bet on, why not wait for those and compete with a level playing-field ? |
|
By:
Unk- in your circumstance and similar, both bets should be voided. For those who made single, unconditional bets against either player prior to the start of the match, these should stand.
|
|
By:
Now this is funny, I contacted the bookie I placed the pre match bet on Levine and they're now saying they settled it correctly ( that Isner won :) )
good luck in getting this one sorted out then. Twice a loser :) Thank you for contacting us. We have contacted our results team and we can confirm that this bet has been settled correctly. Should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us. |

Also been settled as a loser(Levine) at Hills?
Can't be arsed getting in contact yet, as surely they will sort it tomorrow? |

joe, whatever BF end up doing it's not going to make a massive difference to me, I was just showing that there will be circumstance where it will be difficult to pick apart what to void and what to reverse.

Also been settled as a loser(Levine) at Hills? Can't be arsed getting in contact yet, as surely they will sort it tomorrow? Should be changed tomorrow. But if its not, just get on the phone and absolutely embarrass them, you get your money no matter what. Incompetent fu.ckwits are bookmakers. |

By:
Unk - no problem. It's a valid point you raise and a dilemma for Betfair. But either way, this has affected alot of people and I would like to think that keeping their customers happy would supersede any short-term financial gain Betfair is likely to get out of not voiding this match.

THIS IS A DISASTER FOR BETFAIR PUNTERS....ADDING THE RISK OF MATCHFIXING, BETTING LIVE HAS LOST MY APPEAL! THE ONLY WINNERS AND THE TRUE **ERS AND GREEDY PEOPLE HERE ARE BETFAIR THEMSELF. +1000 |
|
By:
Betfair wont void the bets, its as simple as that.
I think it serves as a excellent reminder, that betting without pictures and solely using a scoreboard can be very dangerous indeed. People who have bet on in-play tennis on Betfair for some time, would have immediately realised that something was not right and that the scores did not match up with the odds. Whenever I see something dodgy going on, I leave it well alone. Its a easy decision, because it's not worth the risk in case it backfires. |
|
By:
But if your watching a match on tv and you see its lets say Fedex v Nadal and Fed is winning 1 set to 0 and 5-0 in the 2nd set and Fedex is 1.2 to win the match on Betfair but on the Betfair Scoreboard they have it Nadal winning 1 set to 0 and 5-0 up in the 2nd set would you back Nadal.

UMAGA - the thing is, the odds did match up, because Betfair odds are calculated from users wagers. Therefore, when people were looking at John Isner winning on the faulty scoreboard, people were laying bets on him to win, which would have brought the odds down and not shown any signs of inconsistency.
I agree that if it was a single scoreboard site that failed, then yes, the individual does take a risk, but when all of them go wrong, then it has to be dealt with in a different matter. It is not in the best interest of Betfair to discourage this risk strategy as it makes them alot of money. If people only bet on visible matches, then they would make only a fraction of the money they make. |

I cant believe people bet on a sport you cant watch...but the blooming amazing thing is They are betting in-running with no pictures... Boy theirs some people here with serious questions to ask themselfs . . and they have the gall to blame Betfair :0
|
|
By:
they are all running off the same scoreboard
|
|
By:
Nearly all sports sites had the wrong results, most bookmakers have settled the bets wrong, even betfair settled it wrong, to show how much of an error the sb caused.
Still feel a void is fair towards everyone on in-play bets, and let pre-match bets stand. |
|
By:
Betfair is nto to blame, the central scoring system is to blame, but Betfair needs to deal with the consequence of this diplomatically and in the interest of both their customers and themselves.
|
|
By:
But Joe, when I say didn't match up, I mean that it makes no sense for someone to be up a set and 5-0, and still have the odds of 1.15-1.20.
Years ago on BF, there were barely any in-play matches, especially for these small tournaments so now that we do have them. If people are putting down ridiculous sums of money to win a quick few quid, without seeing the match or what's going on, then surely it's their own fault. |

exactly. BOTH their customers being correct. layers
