CRYING IN TOILETS
Just before the sprint final at the 2023 World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, she found herself crying in the toilets. She eventually won the World title, but she said she had been dealing with pressure before the final. "When you're so close to gold, it's really hard sometimes. I wanted it so bad... and before the final, I was so nervous. Everything built up, the height of the pressure." Crying helped her to get calm again, she said. "And then I came back out and just raced and I literally left everything on the track". (bbc.com, 23 Feb 2024)

Was a great shout army looking at the prices traded. Things seems to have changed quite rapidly as none of these people seem to me to be household names like successful limpic athletes of the past. The bbc will be able to engineer the winner they want.

when all is said and done, the two biggest stories are keely winning on the track and emma getting 3 medals, including a gold where the team broke the world record 3 times.

Littler the deserved winner in my opinion, but means little and he has multiple factors counting against him. The safe option is also available to give him the yoof award.

The top of the market is vulnerable, but also easy to see why the market has her as the default winner. As I mentioned previously, I don't really get involved in spoty any more and have not watched any olympics. It has been pretty easy to avoid, not like the Euros for example, which is indicative of how the olympics has downgraded in the public consciousness. I have traded a tiny bit of free Littler green, my only play to date.

tbh emma winning wouldn't be a shock to me and im certain most of Wales, she has a gold to her name so is no Earps.
as you say keely is no mega star of british sport, well known like greats of the past
she is a poor fav and i will be backing littler as well

its so easy to dismiss someone in spoty coz they don't achieve or win what you'd hoped for but in Emma's case i was reaching for the creme de la creme. She still has achieved a **** ton in a very very weak year, if only there was a top 3 market. coz by awards night she'll be long odds on for it

I'd say most people think track and field is the olympics. So anyone outside of that needs to do something pretty noteworthy (as the public would view it). Peaty for example would have had a great shot as he is a name that does carry. We are so accustomed to winning golds now, that's what counts against Hodgkinson, the obvious upside for her, and why the market made her default short odds fav is that nobody else did much in the track and field (and she's the right gender).

Emma's arc went the wrong direction for you, from success and hope to dignified failure. It's probably best for you not to hold out hope for a lost cause.

Wales' Emma Finucane wins third Olympics medal in stunning achievement

Bronze sees Finucane become the first British woman to win three medals in a singles Games since Mary Rand won a medal of every colour in athletics in 1964. She celebrated with family and friends in the velodrome amid wonderful scenes.

i might just keep backing emma and go for a mega jackpot, the beeb have now committed to her historic record breaking achievements, she's the golden girl of this games as far as i see it. they could ramp her as much or more than keely if they feel like it

I'm just letting her not winning any individual golds decide how i think
By:

When: 11 Aug 24 14:32
this award has gone past who wins what imo, keely's price is based on the narrative of the past. littler was fav at one time for losing a final. coz he achieved something special at his age. earps won for not winning anything major last year but her overall achievements.
emma no different
By:
armagnac
When: 11 Aug 24 14:37
gold bronze not sure it matters anymore loads of nobody's won gold and won't get a look in. we win too many these days to make it really special.
training for, entering 3 events and winning a medal in all 3 is something really special.
you are failing to see the bigger picture
By:

When: 11 Aug 24 15:32
keely's price is based on the narrative of the past.

It's based on her winning both the major golds (European and Olympic) in a blue-ribband athletics event (800m), breaking British record and 6th fastest of all time. She didn't need to rely on teammates just herself to do it.

She's a template SPOTY winner, and there's barely any competition from others. Keep backing Emma if you like, but I'd be tempted to start laying (maybe you are even Mischief)
By:

When: 11 Aug 24 15:40
That template your're so obsessed with no longer exists, thats the point.
Wales have a new superstar, shame the population is not bigger
By:
stu
When: 11 Aug 24 15:43
Well obviously I (and the market it seems) would disagree that template no longer exists. But go against it if you like.
