My boys prolly only know Bellingham and Littler. They won't be watching. That's the problem

By:
So you're giving us views and opinions based on guesswork ? When i have done the homework and i am guaranteeing Littler has very strong support from all age groups. Which is there for all to see !!

Had a thought regarding the 9 million Keely question, so sent out a few messages last night. Got a reply this morning that blows her positive away and in this case, Turns it into a negative pmsl
Questions asked: how many watched Keely win gold in your household ? if any, how many ? If any of you did watch her, will you/they be voting for her to win SPOTY ? Got this back. 'Hi we have 5 living in the household, only my husband wanted to watch the race...i find Athletics boring. He will be voting for Keely but myself and the 3 kids will all be voting for Luke Littler' So i make that a -3 return for Keely just in that one house, didn't think of that scenario did you ??? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

"Seems pretty daft too spend this much time on here and betting on an event without knowing the competition inside out and what you're really up against Clyde ? or you can just listen to your boys telling you who and who can't win.
My Dad been doing my nut in for months saying this and that, but he's 74 and as outdated as most on here...i should sign the old fella up" I think you should listen to your dad more than my boys who wouldn't have a clue. Here are some UK demographic stats for you according to AI.... 77% of Snapchat users are 18-24 6.2% of TikTok users are 55 or more 2.5% of Instagram users are 65 or more 17.1% of Twitter users are over 50 21.6% of Facebook users are over 55 The average age of Telegrapgh readers is 61. The Telegraph claims it's 46, which I think is called creative accounting, although possibly 61 refers to the print version and the online version is lower The average age of a BBC viewer is 59-60 |

Clyde
Telegraph readers are rich Broken Britain old people will be tuning in to vote for Luke Littler coz they have a reason to, Keep your Keely green i pity you when you could triple it backing the winner. |
|
By:
You're putting your entire life on one fact, traditional SPOTY viewers only turn up and vote for Keely.
That is absolutely dumb as feck to be perfectly honest with you, like i said don't bother with an enquiry after the event coz i and 95% of the forum won't give a flying feck. You're finding data to comfort yourself ![]() |

The average age of a women's football fan is 35 years old. This is younger than the average age of a men's football fan, which is 39 years old
Not sure who voted for them then? |
|
By:
The average age of darts fans is older than the average sports fan:
Adult darts fans: 18% are aged 18-34, and 45% are over 55 General sports-watching population: 27% are aged 18-34, and 40% are over 55 Thanks for giving us all the ammo Clyde |
|
By:
If the average age is 59-60 there has to be more over that age than under, and very few youngsters. For example, one twenty year old and two 80 year olds averages 60

SkySports F1 is now the Darts channel, from 7am this morning till 2pm its just showing Luke Littler

A teenager will beat Olympians twice in a row, its as simple as that. Kids get casual voters and the undecided by the bucket load

Why did Mo Farah win, was it what he did on the track ??
Or was it his kids being cute in the background !! |
|
By:
The craziest thing of all about this, is punters are steaming into Luke at 7/4 to win the worlds, won't collect till Jan 3rd and its still a pretty tough ask.
When they could be getting 11/4 about a 1/5 shot and collect Tuesday night Probably coz 95%++ of the punters will not even know a SPOTY market exists |
|
By:
8 army posts in a row.
You do know ranting away on here won't make him win, and doesn't seem to affect the prices... |

I've found the Guardian one from that year. It overstates the appeal of the attractive female athletes and understates the tubby darts player. I think Brushy may have hacked this poll, with Cavendish being top
22% Mark Cavendish 3% Tom Daley 14% Jessica Ennis 3% David Haye 16% Tony McCoy 13% Graeme McDowell 10% Graeme Swann 8% Phil Taylor 6% Lee Westwood 5% Amy Williams |

![]() I'm with you on Luke. I'm surprised he's not favourite I love my athletics but most people don't give a fook about it these days 2 winners of SPOTY in the last 20 years. One of them a double Olympic champion after a long career full of injuries and near misses The other one a double double Olympic champion, at the end of his career |

By:
His price has been and still is very attractive, you ain't making sod all at 1.80 and covering on Luke
keep watching that race and knocking one out ![]() |

Hi fig
I actually went on facebook today and was gonna count up all the old dears loving/liking his posts, tbh after 5 mins i counted 16 and got bored. It was obvious there was gonna be tons !! Even if there was only a 1000 old dears, from the 76,000 followers. Which is the equivalent of a small town 68 million people in the country divided by 76,000 equals 894 towns with 76,000 in each So if each town has a 1000 old dears that like Luke, that equals 894,000 potential voters and that is absolute bottom end !! |
|
By:
Even if you half that figure and say there is 500 old dears that are die hard Luke fans per 76,000 thats still 447,000
When your talk of the town and people are highly motivated you win like Emma Rad did My guess is, there will be a lot of 'new' viewers to SPOTY this year ![]() |
|
By:
It's a stronger 'guess' to think its same viewers who watched olympics on same channel IMO, if we're going to 'guess'.
They don't have to even turn over ![]() |
|
By:
Bit like saying 9 million households watched Keely win, when the house is full of people..only takes one person to want to watch something the others don't give a sh1t about. Happens in most houses every hour of every day
|
|
By:
Its a glorified popularity contest, one is the most popular person in the country the other is not. Has been this way for years now, shame the market don't see it that way. SM rules all RTV and this is all it is now !!
|
|
By:
Nice to see a specials legend back on the forum. Well enough about me, I'm a bit worried fig agrees with us, we're likely doomed now

You're probably right. My last winning train was probably the little muffinsI'm guessing there wasn't a Telegraph poll in 2010 CBP had a poll that was decent tbf. But it overstated the athletics vote for Jess 1. BBC Sports Personality Survey Results Tony McCoy - 22.9% Graeme McDowell- 5.6% Graeme Swann - 6.6% Phil Taylor - 13.3% Lee Westwood - 9.3% Amy Williams - 4.7% Jessica Ennis-17.6% Tom Daley-8% Mark Cavendish- 5% David Haye- 3.7% Don't know - 2% Will not be watching the show - 1.3% |

I won't be playing or viewing, I cashed out months ago after initially being really keen on Littler. Not much different to the current price funnily enough, but I didn't expect them to risk shortlisting him in the end, and give him the yoof award to assuage people. I suppose they are hoping the extra clicks and coverage, and possibly adding to the audience is worth the risk.
I'm not dogmatic either way, but the BBC will get the winner they want. Comparing results from the past, and even polls for this year is a dead end in my view. As I've covered in the past, it's a magazine show in the mould of the one show now, loosely based around sport. Not a proper sports review for sports fans, they (like me) are long gone. It will almost certainly be decided by the broadcast on the night, and who the bbc tell those watching who deserves it the most (out of the plausible winners). |
|
By:
For example, if you asked on the HR and footy channels on here, I'd say you'd be lucky if 10% of forumites even knew when spoty was on. 10 years, ago, 10% of them wouldn't know.
|
|
By:
Perhaps they will want Littler to win, you never know!
