...correct George, since 2017 when the woke BBC last published the voting figures in which the top 8 of 12 were men and the bottom 4 of 12 were women, they no longer publish the voting figures just in case some snowflake gets all upset about finishing last with the public, all in all meaning we no longer know who places 4-6.

ive only had a speculative punt bear at 5/1, works out 10% of earps profit. not betting more than that, does seem to be weighted heavily if the NI bother voting for him.
i fully expect the earps VT to be massive for her, the places will be way way behind, won't take much for 3rd |

anyone know the person who achieved the lowest number of votes and the lowest percentage of total votes since 2002?
|
|
By:
nope
|
|
By:
2002-2017 most votes cast = 1,626,718 in 2012 (12 noms) - London Olympics
2002-2017 fewest votes cast = 341,959 in 2011 (10 male noms) - held on a Thursday night |

2011 must be the one where i tried to persuade amir khan's manager (uncle or someone) that he should step aside and let adlington in. Would have been amazing press for him. Ultimately they politely declined and he finished last of the 10 men, with about 9k votes. Unlucky amir

By:
Looking back now a ten man shortlist seems bizarre. I don't think it was a great year for the lasses but adlington was a double world champion

It's similar to Crimbo #1 on that way, and Pogues. The romantic notion of the NI general public gathering behind a national sporting hero for them to do well in spoty is archaic. Rory may well go on to snaffle a place, but it won't be due to that.

Well if rory bags a place i'm pretty certain a high proportion of votes will be coming from NI

...yes I remember that - it was when the 27 invited papers still chose the shortlist and Amir had 7 noms and Rebecca and Jenson Button had 6 noms both just missing out
interestingly this is how the noms were chosen: 27/27 Rory McIlroy 26/27 Darren Clarke 25/27 Mo Farah 23/27 Mark Cavendish 18/27 Alastair Cook 17/27 Dai Greene 14/27 Andrew Strauss 14/27 Andy Murray 11/27 Luke Donald 7/27 Amir Khan --------------------- 6/27 Rebecca Adlington, Jenson Button 5/27 KerriAnne Payne, Graeme Swann 4/27 Jimmy Andersom, Stuart Braod, Sam Warburton 3/27 Chrissie Wellington, Gareth Bale, Carl Froch, Sam Waley-Cohen, Scott Parker, Sarah Stevenson, Sam Tomkins 2/27 Victoria Pendleton, Kath Grainger 1/27 x 24 |

If khan had dropped out people would still remember that now

Mostly the general public no longer care about spoty. Online now gives a jaundiced view of the real world. There are about 700 middle class types working for my company in England, I would be surprised if there is a single conversation about it before the event. And no, I'm not in the 700. (I'm upper class!)

say 10 - 15 years ago it would be subjects of debates at the barista bar etc. who deserves it most and all that. perhaps even a bit 5 years ago.

2000 votes for winning the masters, that's shocking :)
|
|
By:
It's partly that imv, but it's partly simply down to technology and how we operate differently. Families don't tend to gather around the TV to regularly watch events any more. The royal Xmas speech is one of the few annual ones left. We tend to lead atomised lives, not wishing to get too deep lol. Most people under 40 would rather be scrolling through their phone or netflix than watch spoty. And the bbc is deliberately turning away the over 40s, courting the under 40 audience that are not interested in linear tv.
|
|
By:
Ultimately I don't think anyone could prevent the inevitable decline of linear, appointment to view broadcasting. They could delay the inevitable though.

cashed out for now, Rory not even bothered recognising being shortlisted. never been a good sign that for previous runners, if he can't be bothered why should his supporters and more importantly why should i.

Still Rory is AWOL, he only give this season 7/10 from a personal point of view. Obviously last time he was nommed he won two majors and the ryder cup, maybe he feels this is a token effort and feels sympathy for Kerr. Whatever his reasons for staying quiet it continues to look like a snubb.

ah i think i have worked it out, last year Fitz was robbed of a place on the short list, uproar ensued across golf.
maybe Rory feels embarrassed about being handed a political place on the list, after all he's the self appointed voice of golf now. After being so vocal about the Liv tour, he would look hypocritical possibly by accepting being on the list after Fitz was completely ignored the year before. It feels like i didn't do enough and don't deserve it...who cares !! In June 2022, he won his first major championship at the U.S. Open, with a one-shot victory at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts – the same venue where he won the U.S. Amateur in 2013. He joined Jack Nicklaus as the second male golfer to win a U.S Open and a U.S. Amateur title at the same venue. |

oh dear ive just seen this as well, i think there is now two huge reasons why he couldn't give a monkeys, doubt he'll even turn up.
. https://www.golfmagic.com/pga-tour/outrage-bbc-declines-chance-show-pga-tour-coverage-free Their reason to decline? "It does not suit the demographic." A source tells The Telegraph: "The PGA Tour was willing to give away the highlights to the BBC for a potential programme that could have gone out every Monday night, or even just when it chose, such as for The Players Championship. "It would not have had to pay any rights fees. This offer was made on multiple occasions, including in recent years. But the answer came back that it was not interested because it ‘does not suit the demographic’ the BBC is trying to reach. "That is a stunning attitude, even if you simply look at this week and see that Rory McIlroy has a chance to go back to World No.1 and so many other UK players are teeing it up. "The BBC would rather get down with the kids and instead put out stuff like the UFC." |

On rtv today they discussed Frankie and spoty. Very underwhelming, apparently he said something along the lines of if he was starting out in his career today, he would do it in another jurisdiction
So no appetite for a full throated campaign. |
