surely a massive part of campaigns is decent regional appeal as well, not sure he has much even after living here for so long.
its what helped sinfield, brownlee and skelton get there places.
frankie is mostly reliant on punters to get him a place here after the limited number of people involved in racing behind the scenes.
yes people bet on golf, any sport, but racing punters are the most fickle of the lot, biggest moaners of the lot and everyone always remembers the losers more than the winners. i can see many not giving two hoots, its the equivalent of an anti vote..which won't apply to Rory or KJT

lol bear. Easy to see why Earps was such amazing value for so long. It's like the Joey Barton fanclub

followers as its all we seem to do these days, never been a fan as its always won in the house as they say or i thought it was lol but this is probably one event it actually matters coz these are the people most likely to vote regardless of VT's.

Shame we can't filter out the UK ONLY followers, pretty sure Lewis Hamilton's insane follower count made all the difference to him always producing decent results in this.
i do wonder what Rory's followers were back in 2014 as he's become a far bigger name since then.

Rory

1.3M FB
3.2M twitter
2.8M insta

KJT

103K FB
144K twitter
269K insta

Frankie

49K FB
97K twitter
199K insta

even if Rory has 10% UK followers and the other two have all UK followers, he would still have more than both of them.

i'm not getting it, just took all the 5/1 on here. its rare to have a campaign anyway, the people that have had them in the past are always the ones that really need them to have a chance of placing.
i can see Rory getting 150,000+ which should be plenty to beat KJT and i can't see frankie getting more than 100,000 with a campaign.

no regional support for frankie which is where KJT will thrive given all that gold telephone box stuff they do but Rory's regional support is 4 times more which has proven loyal support over the years in this award with them getting behind, Clarke, Rory, McCoy and Johnathan Rea

I think you're way out with the numbers, farah won with 80k

They've declined for sure though i think they're keeping them quiet now

60k enough for a place.  Earps will get 120k and win by miles .

Kjt 30k ish would be my guess

just feels like the market is respecting athletics to much coz of its amazing record in the award but run of the mill nominee's like KJT will have a cap on there vote. nothing nationally amazing about her or what she's achieved.

with frankie i just think his support is massively overrated, i'd also say racing and racing fans have become a dying breed year on year, i was only saying this the other day my generation who should of took over from the last generation, who are dying off daily will no longer feel the need to sit in the bookies and watch the racing. you can bet on your app and watch it on your app, even now its game over. shops shutting tenfold, your're lucky to see one old boy sat there watching the races these days, let alone 10 per shop going back 10/15 years ago.
its been dying for years, its now on its last legs. youngsters 25 years ago had no choice getting into the gambling scene, you had footy coupans or horses/greyhounds.
The choices now are through the roof and the markets on those sports are full of different options, the sport that has suffered the most is racing. Frankie being shortlisted 5 years ago would of seen more votes coz more people would of been alive, its simply falling behind down to high street closures and more options on other sports.

nah not really brushy, it depends. if you look back it can be quite hit/miss on the vote counts, that Mo year was a dull one and his kids was the highlight of the whole night hence the low count

If you could guarantee me Rory getting 150k i'll have my bank on him to win at 1.01

Rea 2nd and Peacock 3rd says it all, pretty sure the av is around 125,000 - 150,000 for semi decent runners

Rory McIlroy - golf - 123,745

that was 2014, he's like a golfing god these days. i expect more than that even though his achievement not as good this year to then.

yeah joke numbers for a boring year
By:

When: 12 Dec 23 19:21
were all guessing coz we don't get the numbers anymore, but if you think it stays the same year on year you need a Dr. ofc it matters what sports are shortlisted and who is representing that sport

add in womens sport has gone bonkers the last few years with more women voting, how on earth can we be at the 80K level
By:

It's being going down year on year, that's why we dont get numbers now

I'd be surprised if the 2nd this year gets more than 30k

New figures reveal adult on-course golf participation in Great Britain in 2021 was nearly double the figure from four years earlier. In 2017 there were 2.5 million British golfers, by 2021 this figure had grown to 4.8 million, although this represented a slight drop from 2020.

1% of that, bit of regional, bit from SM and its go to the counter

When: 12 Dec 23 19:35
that is some growth for golf
By:

i can guarantee that is a lot more female golfers too, with athletics probably staying level and racing fans just dying

Probably due to the fact the only thing people could do in 2021 was play golf or watch your gran through the window of her care home..
