he had a very emotional ryder cup and was the leading points scorer, which will be unknown until the actual night to anyone outside of golf. he'll surely pick votes on the night along with his massive following. on the course he gets unrivalled support, i watch a lot of golf

its basically a 50/50 with Kat, but she will lose general votes to earps on the night probably, all the men peeed off with another women footy player winning. along side the joey barton debacle will throw some rory's way imo

Rory played golf for Ireland in Olympics
so if Ireland can vote on the website its
a bigger reach.

This isn't a negative as golf Ireland is a pan Ireland set
up same as Ireland rugby.

After a chastening experience at the 2021 Ryder Cup, in which he was left in tears after Europe lost by a record margin to the United States, Rory McIlroy gained revenge at this year's tournament.

A talismanic performance led to him finishing as the top points scorer on either side with four out of five matches won, and Europe's victory gave the Northern Irishman his fifth Ryder Cup triumph.

On the PGA Tour, he posted a remarkable 13 top-10 finishes in 18 events, including at three of the four majors, and won the Scottish Open. He also retained the Race to Dubai title for the fifth time and spent part of the year ranked as the world number one.

lol fig, i think its clear as this is from the bbc nomination page his chances rely heavily on how this comes across in the VT. its the old comeback story, yeah KJT came back from injury but will they feature her balling her eye's out, like they probably will Rory.
then the emotion of coming back and winning, they've all got stories but this could be the one that wins most hearts, especially regional ones.

not athletics brushy, probably the only sport that would of stayed level over this new era, they've always had women presenters and experts since i can remember.
By:

True i suppose. Only me and figgy watched the letics. The ratings people couldn't find anyone watching.

The spoty jury didn't watch either seeing as how they've dumped the jock lad!

Strange what's happened with sport really - like said, athletics always been a decent female sport, a true sport unlike the new pretendy female sports.

Yet, you wouldn't know it with the profile of athletics falling greatly over the years, while silly things like women's cricket ends up on beeb headlines.

many people thought Rory was very unlucky not to  beat lewis in 2014, even lewis said he would of voted for him. Given that and his home nation i expect a committed turnout having to wait this long to exact payback. you don't get many chances to help give your hero representing your nation or sport a chance of recognition.
Athletics is very samey in SPOTY, always someone representing it and seems to have certain threshold of votes that is never enough to make dent in winning. only Farah managed a win recently, and it was his kids who got half of his 80,000 votes that year.

pavey fell short of rory in 2014, poster girl Jess always fell short. just does not seem enough vote strength to compete with Rory, you'd probably have to admit as well, if one sport has taken a hit due to more sports becoming popular for women its gonna be athletics. not sure what the PE curriculum will now be but more options surely available than say 15 years ago.

The joey barton thing would have incited women all over the country, so maybe some who may have voted for KJT will get behind football and Earps, thats without the natural crossover that will happen if you like both sports.
one way or another Earps takes a good chunk away from her.
