He's only just landed in Australia and there's already been calls to stop former UKIP leader Nigel Farage's appearance on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

The ex-MEP turned GB News presenter touched down at Brisbane Airport on Sunday, ahead of his stint in the jungle with Ant and Dec and a star-studded line-up of already confirmed famous faces, including This Morning's Josie Gibson, Made in Chelsea's Sam Thompson and First Dates foodie star Fred Sirieix.

Campaigners are calling to boycott this year's show on ITV, kicking off on November 19, over rumours production bosses have paid Farage over £1.5million Laugh to join this year's list of famous faces. More than 1,000 people have sent complaints to Ant and Dec who are already down under ahead of filming and further celebrity arrivals.

Naomi Smith, CEO of Best for Britain, said: "While the thought of Farage mingling with other creepy-crawlies may seem appropriate, anything that normalises or amplifies his toxic views must be opposed. After a weekend that saw police injured at the hands of a far-right mob, and after years of his politics poisoning our society, we want the public to send a clear message to Ant and Dec, ITV and the media at large, that giving a divisive populist like Farage a nightly primetime platform is not good for our country."

Farage has been accused of racism, sexism and xenophobia over the course of his career which has rattled viewers of the ITV show. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer said: "Just so upset by this. Ant, Dec & ITV platforming a xenophobe who revels in whipping up division & poison. What has this country become?"

A second added: "BOYCOTT.... ITV - seeing a rating drop is the only message that will register with the powers that be... Farage has been the architect of division & decline in our country, and his web of lies to achieve Brexit can never be forgotten." While a third commented: "Boycott #ImACeleb @ITV are sanitising the deplorable @Nigel_Farage. #NigelFarage does not reflect the nation's values!"

"I decided to avoid I'm a Celeb after they gave Matt Hancock a platform to excuse himself of all his wrongdoing and lawbreaking. This year, it's hatemonger Farage. Irresponsible, immoral, and greedy for viewing figures. #ImAceleb and Ant & Dec can #GetInTheBin," fumed another. Meanwhile, one disgraced fan added: "Shame on ITV for giving Farage a platform on one of its most popular shows. Pure evil vibes."

"Don't watch it, don't send them money in phone votes, don't reward the advertisers, and f**k Ant and Dec for platforming him, no matter how many oh-so-edgy winks to camera and cutting remarks they make," typed one viewer. Commenting on Matt Hancock's appearance last year, another added: "I'm boycotting this time. Real shame. Hancock was incompetent. Farage is a fascist. Huge difference."

Upon landing at Brisbane Airport, Mr Farage told The Mirror and other members of the media he was in Australia for a "surfing" holiday. Laugh He went on to reveal that he went tee-total for a week before heading to the jungle but confessed he may have given into a cheeky drink on the plane over.

Speaking at the airport, he added: "I can't confirm I am doing it but I might be. I just think there is a big young audience out there that watches the programme which is worth talking to. I have been messing about on TikTok for the last few months and you would be surprised, a lot of young people out there are interested in what I have got to say."

The Mirror remains the go to rag for a balanced piece on Nigel Farage, I find.

If a much reviled Hancock can come third last year, then the country`s most loved politico can easily win this

I wasn't searching for balance. Neither are ITV bosses when they're signing up characters like him. Love him or loathe him, just like Hancock, he's a GUARANTEED draw.. for people who are indifferent to him and his views as well as for people who have apparent hatred for him. A mixture of FOMO and curiosity will have most of these hardcore "boycotters" tuning in without missing a beat. Bosses are well aware of this, which is why they don't give a damn about any ratbag group who think "action should be taken" on behalf of 1000 petition sigs.

I don't think they can be compared though. People actually warmed to Hancock as he was putting on an act and smashing trials. Nigel Farage will do neither.

Thinking about it more, I'd be interested in 30s for a view to trade lower, but 8s is shocking.

Nige nailed on second for me. Will probably trade below 4s when he gets to the final 5 or 6 and the casuals start to have a punt/non farage backers start to panic. Positive vote guarantees he goes the distance, but when it gets to the final there will be an anti-farage candidate to beat him. Prods will almost certainly guarantee this happens too, everyone and their dogs will tune in if he’s in the final two.
Problem I’m having is trying to find the anti-farage candidate. Josie was your every-woman 15 years ago but she’s older now and been a tv star for a while, not sure she’ll have the same upside. Would be interested to know her politics, if she starts to side with farage she’s done for.
Easy win imo for anyone who stays out of the inevitable arguments but can make some witty asides about them in the bush telegraph. I do quite like Fred for this role, he’s funny but I also feel he could try and take Nige on which could backfire.
Sam Thompson is a bit of a tit, but probably will get involved in trials and will probably thrive in the jungle tbh, I think if he wins there have been no standouts. I also feel like he’s not a great candidate for the anti-farage vote.

Hopefully Fred is smart enough not to go out of his way to confront Farage, unless and until he starts acting like an arse

Comparing Hancock and Nigel is just laughable. Yes they have both been front line politicians, Hancock is not fit to lace Farage's boots. Some people will point to the tired stuff about him not winning a seat in parliament, but that is to do with the system and he was not willing to compromise and wh0re himself out to a mainstream party just to get a seat at the top table, like so many of the others. Anyhow, if we go down the political rabbit hole, it will be never-ending.

A big massive chunk of the public just believe what they are told, the caricature of Farage. He won't turn some of them around of course, they are just conditioned to hate by default. I'm pretty confident he will swing plenty of them into realising that he isn't actually what the BBC and others would like the sheeple to think he is.

Vote to save means he gets to the top 3 or so.

The Anti vote will then kick in. So he finishes 2nd or 3rd. Assuming he sticks it, which isn't certain.

Pre camp assumed popular support will not always translate into in camp popularity
Farage is sure to be voted to do any unplesant task, how he handles this, hunger, and conversations when bored when he forgets about the cameras will seal his fate, either for or against.

George Burns - “The key to success is sincerity. If you can fake that you've got it made.” A big mate of Nigel's(Jim Davidson) used that exact quote before and after entering the Big Brother house.. where he of course emerged victorious. No doubt the jungle is a more challenging environment to succeed with such an act, but Hancock(starting from MUCH further back than Farage) made a damn good go of it. Lifty suggests Farage won't be bothering with such games, but nobody knows just how determined he is to emerge as "KING of the jungle!"
By:

Something that Nigel definitely lacks is determination Silly

I keep repeating it, but it bears repeating. He is continually underestimated, especially by people who have swallowed the caricature via the perpetual smearing of the legacy media. If people think he will collapse because of a few nasty trials or campmate attacks, they don't actually know anything about him. I couldn't be as confident as I was with Harry, as the ITV crowd will despise him as much as some of those do on here. I'll be shocked if he flops, though.

Farage will have a huge support base, that's for sure, to help him stay in.

He'll also have a huge anti vote, 48% of the population, and another 10 to 15% who regret they voted to leave.....which of course gets him in all the bush tucker trials that the public vote on. So loads of air time.

He's so polarising, it's hard to see many changing their mind about him though, so I think it'll be a long run, and he'll probably trade much lower than he is now I expect.

tbh, whatever happens I am very happy that he has injected some life into the reality scene, that is otherwise on life support. I had all but given up.

so I think it'll be a long run, and he'll probably trade much lower than he is now I expect.

From a purely betting angle, the problem is that he wasn't 'missed' by the market - he's a fairly short price already IMO.

I have to agree. Much lower implies he goes to below 2/1 or so. He's got to absolutely smash it out the park to drop to those odds, especially with such a strong market with at least 3 winners waiting (Josie, Sam, and Fred).

He will likely still give 7+ even if he does make the top 3.

By:
kevinglass
When: 14 Nov 23 19:07
The press may well help drive the price down. There'll be loads of coverage if there are any leaks about how far he's ahead in the first vote. I think that's quite possible with so many left in.......less so when we only have 2 or 3.

I suppose it depends on the "herd" mentality a bit. Some people just go with the crowd and might not be quite so aware of how the "game" works.

Of course he could come across as a right plank very quickly.

It'll be interesting that's for sure.

How many of these clowns have you even heard of? Only 3 for me. Gibson, Thompson(both from BB) and obviously Farage. Has there been a weaker cast than this? Farage is the only bona fide "Celebrity"
By:

All of them. Then again, I am 'only' 29 and spend a fair amount of time online (watched a lot of soaps in my teens). They probably aren't targeting your demographic? Hard for me to avoid most of them - whether I'm on Instagram, YouTube, or the TV, Sam is right there.

I can’t even see that saving him lol

Only way he wins is if he lands a haymaker on Farage, he’s just too serious for the cheering and high fives vibe that’s on the show, and the lack of food will affect him more than the others IMO

100% agree there!

I hadn’t heard of her but seen she has a massive following on social media, so googled her and like “Ar Trish” from big brother had also forgot to delete past racist Twitter posts!

I watched her on one YouTube video and she hasn’t got any star quality at all

She might get past a couple if she's lucky, but can't see her anywhere near a top half finish even.

Nella's youtube channel makes it look like Nella is totally not an ITV middle England type of runner, but she may see this as a massive chance to break out of her lane and get something bigger professionaly.
At the price I would rather wait and see what she is like in camp.

The influencer types like her always come in with a supposed fanbase, then proceed to do mostly naff all in these competitions because their 'support base' (youtube casual subscribers etc) barely turns up to vote, and also gets swamped by the amount of viewers who realise they are not great personalities and are very boring.

Selling rubbish on Youtube gives them delusions they are great too IMO.
