very good post Tim..  9-1 for the NHS choir is absoulutely massive value

the fact that it isnt released until Friday means the timing is perfect to be No.1 the following week

Song: A Bridge Over You
Artist: The Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir
Released: December 18

Another online campaign off to a very strong start for this year’s Christmas Number 1 is the NHS Choir, who are hoping to take 'Bridge Over You' - an arrangement of Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water and Coldplay’s Fix You - to Number 1 this year. The song was originally released in 2013 and the choir formed by Gareth Malone as part of the 65th anniversary celebrations of the NHS.

In the face of recent budget cuts by the government, junior doctor Harriet Nerva launched a Facebook campaign to raise awareness and get the song to Number 1. With over 162,0000 followers and growing, if all those supporters converted into downloads in race week and streams, then consider this a serious contender for the Christmas top spot. Click here to find out more about the campaign.

RATM had close on 1M followers and a very well organised campaign and still only sold 500,000 copies
I say only. Quite an amazing achievement but it shows that converting number of followers into actual downloads isn't easy
By:

I suspect the number of followers who actually downloaded it was less than 25%, as part of the campaign was to download it multiple times from multiple sources.

ben haenow reached no.1 last year and he only sold around 220,000 copies..

NHS choir have requested people not to buy it until friday to ensure it has the best chance of getting the top spot

This is different. Everyone has a real emotional bond with the NHS, emotions which will be ramped up nicely with the VT. Ponder this; who is more motivated? those looking for a trivial laugh at Cowell`s expense, or thoughts of that lovely Doctor who saved my life? No contest, so I think we can expect a far higher uptake of `likes` than usual.
The art of staying alive is just too serious, too innate, for this campaign to do anything other than pluck the phuck out of every last emotional heartstring we all have, with Kleenex stocking huge supplies, in full anticipation! Nobody but Scrooge and The Grinch will want to have missed this national, emotionally-naked group hug. Too spiritual a moment, innit.

I cried because I've backed it and Justin Bieber is odds on and I thought about how my family might end up having chicken nuggets for Christmas instead of a turkey.

Not making the mistake of some others by dissipating the `interest and enthusiasm too early. Ask her again next week...

I wouldn't be backing anything at sub 3.0 which looks to be projecting 100,000-120,000 myself, I'd be laying it if I understood the dynamics a bit better.

the timing of the release is the key to the NHS winning... i think Bieber has peaked too soon

Your post added clarity and helped me understand the dynamics better hence the latter post of the above.
