GL fella.

I just hope the voters look at "Personality" at least a bit. To be fair to Bale he has one. McIlroy & Hamilton not so much.....

will the fact they show the British Open on BBC make any difference to Rory's chances? F1 is on Sky,Lewis popular in the betting of late but sure 2 majors and getting back to World #1 will seal it for Rory?

pretty sure I watched Hamilton win the Championship on BBc

BBC's F1 coverage to include nine live races in 2014
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/25458397 The list of races to be televised LIVE on the BBC in 2014 is as follows: 30 March: Malaysia (HAMILTON = WINNER) 11 May: Spain (HAMILTON = WINNER) 08 June: Canada (HAMILTON = D.N.F.) 06 July: Britain (HAMILTON = WINNER) 24 August: Belgium (HAMILTON = D.N.F.) 07 September: Italy (HAMILTON = WINNER) 05 October: Japan (HAMILTON = WINNER) 12 October: Russia (HAMILTON = WINNER) 23 November: Abu Dhabi (HAMILTON = WINNER) Those races not shown live on BBC TV are strongly complemented by extended TV highlights, live radio and online coverage. ...so of the 9 races the BBC showed LIVE, Lewis Hamilton was the WINNER in 7 of them and did not finish in 2 of them. If you click the following link http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/ you will see that the F1 page on the BBC is full of Lewis Hamilton, who has also written a column on this page all year. |
|
By:
oh right never saw it on bbc, maybe cos Im more used to sky,Lewis doing a column will probably help him,if the golf wins the team of year and coach of year event it might look better if a different sport won the main event,Lewis will be popular in the mainland, although on achievements Rory should be the winner...

the award should go to someone that would represent their country, Rory wants to play for Ireland, there is a international category, rory should be removed from the list
|
|
By:
Golf in Ireland is an all Ireland sport like rugby so that was probably the right call, saying that even though Rory is a Catholic I think he sees himself as more British,(he does have an MBE)Catholic Unionists are rare but you do get Protestant Republicans also,a lad from the North told me before that Rory was the first Catholic allowed to play in Hollywood only because he was so good,a lot of the retired RUC/Special Branch play/played and we all know what kind of c***s they were, anyway the area around Hollywood is predominantly Protestant so he's not going to say he's Irish and offend the people he is loyal to.By saying he is Northern Irish means all sides are happy.Sure Barry McGuigan won the SPOTY in the 80s and he is from Clones,Monaghan which is in the Republic....

Ulster says ok to Barry from county Monaghan
|
|
By:
ireland have one golf team and one rugby team
rory was supported as an amateur by irish golf union gui) i suppose it will stop some bigots voting for him such is the world we live in |

Every year 'numpties' talk about the need to having a personality.
Having what is now considered to be a personality has never been a requirement: "This prestigious award will be given to the sportsman or woman whose actions have most captured the public's imagination in 2014." |
|
By:
Take your point. If Murray and Zara Phillips have won then it clearly is no factor at all....
|
|
By:
Having what is generally considered having a good personality is certainly helpful towards popularity, but it is difficult for many sportspeople to show one as they are representing their sponsors at all times - step out of line and the sponsor is immediately lost - this is why Gillette no longer sponsor Thierry Henry or Tiger Woods and I doubt any are still sponsoring Lance Armstrong, so you are simply not going to get a 'persoanlity' from the major stars.

a question of sport special for spoty

|
By:
that was top 10 in us masters,
|
|
By:
...yes the question about Golf was which 3 European players finished under par at the 2014 US Masters, the answer being Blixt (-5), Jimenez (-4) and Westwood (-1) - no mention of Rory throughout the show as you rightly point out donny.
