If he can repeat 5k/10k double at the World Champs.

By:
isnt he concentrating on marathons now? maybe i imagined that
|
|
By:
Farah has no chance - look where he voted this year
|
|
By:
Can't remember what he said about marathons to be honest, though you're right he did mention them.
Farah came third last year despite winning only one of the World Champs. This year was an exceptional year, though his achievements should have elevated him higher in the poll, I agree. |

By:
Farah has a good chance if he won the marathon in Rio
Unlikely before then for me |

If someone wants to put up Dettori @ 1000 I will have some
![]() Will be starting fav for Celeb BB if he goes in, so will be in public eye (admittedly way early in the year) he's only person stopping himself winning jockey's championship too. Rest of them will be taking races off each other, Hughesy won it after a month ban, he'd have to put up the miles but it's his if he wants it IMO. Could be given as a sort of lifetime achievement in the way Giggs and McCoy won it in quiet sporting years |
|
By:
I wouldn't lay anyone at 999/1 but I certainly wouldn't back Dettori at it. too much of the public are irrationally anti-drugs
|
|
By:
opinion poll backers at ascot certainly wont be voting for that little ****

Able to back Muzza for top 3 at 5 on BF last night, & WH go same price on him winning SPOTY 2013. A shame for those who believed his 1st Slam would arrive in 2012. Potential for big-priced Muzza win in this market gone & his SPOTY price ruined.
|
|
By:
Murray should be about 13/8. He's 3/1 to win Wimbledon (which would make him 1/5) and even if he doesn't he's pretty likely to pick up another slam, which ought to be enough in a weakish year. Multiple slams are very much a possibility.
Plus I think he'll get some delayed recognition from this year, he's developing a more voter-friendly personality and he's got the Scottish vote locked up. Rory looks the biggest danger. |

By:
yes bushy, rory is a fair shout actually.
given it being pretty quiet this coming year, those two have it too lose imo |

I'd swerve the cyclists. Wiggins has said he'll support Froome in the tdf, although what will happen if he's leading Froome after the first time trial would be interesting. I think Froome will struggle. He's not good enough in the timetrials, and with Contador and Schleck back in, his odds are way to short for someone with everything to prove.

Boys and girls I've got a 9/1 Sport Personality of the Year 2013 that will be a lot shorter by the end of the summer and may even be odds on like Wiggo by Christmas. "Who is this sure fire bet you speak of"?.... Alistair Cook.
England are massive favourites to win the ashes this summer (1.62). If they do so our new Captain fantastic and sure fire top run scorer will be right up there waiting to pick up the award. Pietersen (50s) may occasionally be brilliant but he doesn't have the universal appeal of Cook, squeaky clean image, mr consistent, a ladies and grannies favourite alike, who is well on his way to becoming England's best ever batsman. After this summer he will be talked of in the same sentences as Bradman. Other cricketers in contention would be either of our 2 spinners; Monty (66s) and Swann (50s) . Might be worth a small cover on each of those 2 and Anderson (50s) who could if he gets it right clean the hapless convicts up. The other contenders? Murray at 7/2 favourite won his first Major this year and only just got in the top 3. Even if he wins Wimbledon he probably needs to dominate Djokovic to do better than this year as he is miserable as sin. No value for me. On the athletics/cycling front, Ennis (13/2) , Farah (10s) & Froome (12s)? If they didn't win on the much hyped Olympic year can't see them doing better on the 'off year'. The only other one in the top 10 with a shout is Rory McIlroy (11/1). But again, he needs to hit his best form and win a couple of majors to be in with a shout. No mean feat. Honestly. Cant believe Sb are giving away 9/1. I might have a massive bet on this only just to trade some just before the ashes (in case pietersen some how makes top run scorer) and then some again after. By then I expect him to be trading at 2 or 3/1 or less. Wade in, wade in! |

Tom Daley 125/1
Any major diving championships on Bbc next year, lol Big price if there are .... |

Ok gents / ladies, let's have another go this year following the 100/1 Wiggo.
Agree that Murray looks a good thing, but let's look further a field and find some each way value. Every sport has its day in the sun SPOTY wise (Witness racing with AP etc). In a quiet-ish year this year, I think it could be the turn of Rugby league (What's that the southerners cry?!). Bear with me.. England are 7/1 for the r league world cup and could easily make the final under the leadership of Kevin Sinfield (for the benefit of the southerners this guy is basically Rugby leagues AP Mccoy - respected by all fans). In my view, if England land the 7/1 win then he is potentially a shoo-in as will 100% make the shortlist and the sleeping R league voters will come out in force multi voting like buggery. Even a final berth could still see him nominated as he is getting on a bit in years now and deserves some recognition for his multiple trophy wins with Leeds over the years. This is a potential Ryan Giggs type lifetime achievement job landing him the spoils. I've been hoovering up the 66/1 each way with the maximum I am allowed with each, feel free to do the same. Happy Christmas. |
|
By:
Never heard of him, but then again I'd never heard of Wiggins
|
|
By:
Kevin Sinfield has no chance. 66/1 isn't that great value. Nobody will have heard of him outside the Rugby League territories, and still won't even if we win. Nobody outside Lancashire-Yorkshire cares for rugby league.
|
|
By:
And not even all of Yorkshire
![]() It's an interesting tip, but stick him on bf and 66s will quickly look poor value I suspect |
|
By:
That's not me saying he couldn't win OC. I'm sure the weird rugger types are as capable of mounting a campaign as the horsies
|
|
By:
Time will tell...
An internet campaign got st helens team of the year a few years ago in SPOTY, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility. |

Rory has won 2 majors and been no where near winning it.
I will take my chances on Westwood and Donald in the hope one of them wins a major and Muzza has a shocking year. |

sue barker won french open in 1976 and came nowhere in spoty , wade won wimbledon in 77
and picked up spoty rory will need to win an open , imo to win spoty, and murray not win wimbledon in same year |
|
By:
jacklin won the open in 69 and was beaten to spoty by ann jones who won wimbledon
he won us open in 70 and lost out to 'ennry cooper, but managed to beat the bracelet thief into 3rd plaice |
