I don't think James is Ella's flag bearer. And MOR always wins, not tormented soul. Two can play this game Henry" Haha very good. But he lost most of his torment and became MOR. I’m sure I said more stupid things than that. I see gambling like any other business, years of mistakes and muddling about before becoming a master. |

Good point Henry,
gotta admit I class GB as a masterbettor |

Yes, but he didn't get that 8K on James at 2.5 or lay that 5K on Chris at 5.8 cos I grabbed em
(as we're all on a roll). |

Or in the case of this year's X Factor, weeks of mistakes and fcking about before eventually getting a profitable book! I don't think any of us were covered in glory this time round to be honest. At some point we either a) thought Ella was already home and hosed, or b) thought that James was too marmite to win. Opinions can change, as can books - which is why it pays to be open minded if you're going to use this forum wisely! |
By:
Did a pretty weak/average year on the outright until backing James VERY late on. But I killed the elim markets this year. Often been other way round for me in past.
By:
James was too marmite to win. He had to be 'compromised'. Presumably they wanted him to win being himself, but that didn't work.
By:
Not sure. I think they were happy for him to be the artist he wanted to be for a while to establish his 'credible' tag
Let him go b2 if necessary, then turn him voter friendly |
By:
Can I claim to fame in having both backed James B2 (only week he was) and to win?

Perhaps, prices and value adapt with information, and although I took very short prices about James I had a lot of information. He was too marmite to win and that is why he was in the bottom 2. That wasn't an invalid opinion and backing him before he was b2 was reasonably brave if you thought he was going to be b2. If he wasn't b2 would he have undergone the overhaul he did? This is a very interesting post mortem because it wasn't straight forward series, and lessons can always be learnt.
Biggest lesson for me is how quickly voters opinion can be turned. I could see the edge was being taken off James but I never thought one song could have so much of an impact (of course it co-incided with his bounce). But as we know he retained the momentum. I wonder if that would have been the case if the competition had been stronger. |

Yes. I was on both. Plus laid Rylan and backed Ella.

only just transferring the votes onto my show sheets now. I see we were right the week we said they called the result INPO in reverse order.
UJ Rylan Jahmene Chris |
By:
and in the correct order the following week
James Chris Jahmene |
By:
I know there aren't many options towards the end, but 6 of the 9 weeks they called Chris and Jahmene out next to each other, always next to each other in the vote to.

Darn, thought I'd been extra clever there.

I also backed him the week before when he was 0.5% off b2
and 1.1% below Ella. That was the week the Ella story appeared in the star. James being even closer to b2 obviously wasn't worth a mention ![]() |

lol, no

That was their main b2 bet

My B2 bet that week.

They pimped James the next week and Ella was dreadful with Written in the stars
, yet was only 1% behind James. |
By:
And under 2% behind the magnificent Jahmene, with yet another sob story, no doubt
By:
..but she could never win.
By:
no, she was bloody awful

belting out the sort of classics Chris and Jahmene mostly had with styling which was brighter, prettier, younger and fun . . .
It does seem "interesting" that "they" actually made Ella and James very similar - dark and brooding in their styling and mostly changing their songs up. Ultimately both worked out much better for James. Ella made nearly all her changed-up songs sound exactly the same. |
By:
Look at it another way then, at what point in the lives was Ella a value price.
By:
well obv at the end of the series and with all the figures out there, you can say never - but then you can say anyone who took, for example, 15/8 and laid 4/5 has done well.
By:
Looking at the voting she was never value.
She was value before the lives given her voice, MOR songs and tears during her audition, plus the rest of the field being shyte. For someone who was given no help with songs, vt's, makeover, or slots, she did well to get as far as she did. Considering Jahmene had help with all of the above he never polled particularly well and was spanked in the final. The big mistake I made was not realising she wasn't being helped earlier. |
By:
Part of judging value must be determining what you think the true figures are. That's why value changes when there is a voting leak. The true figures show that the market over-estimated Ella's chances. From week 1. She might have won, but a runner can win without ever being value. As I perceive Kara's SCD win.
By:
If she'd been given the help Jahmene and then James receieved then she would have been value @ evens or slightly odds on.
By:
I agree she didn't get a great amount of help through the lives. Week 1 was fine tho on that front. To maintain her momentum from auditions to the final, for a 16 year old girl with no real back story, was always going to be a huge challenge.
By:
same, I clinged on to the thought that they wanted to make a competition out of it, I kept waiting for the great song choices for ella that never happened.
looking for the chosen one can be hard to nail, but looking for the not chosen runners is a lot easier, I should have twigged on to the decline of Ella's chances much earlier in the final knowing James was the prefered winner I should have been a lot more confidant in the prods ability to get him over the line, thinking that james could start rapping in the last few weeks of xfactor was a bit delusional on my part ![]() |

By:
She sang a song about her dead grandather at the audition and yet it was never mentioned again.
She was also big boned. I'm sure they could have come up with a bullying story. She was the obvious winner with help. |
