reprise of earlier Mugptr - various reviesw up now if you haven't read yet. Jury rehearsal is tonight this is 1st dress rehearsal
By:
He tends to replay it so worth waiting at the end to see all the ones you've missed mugptr
By:
If Austria qualifies it will be a mmajor shock for me

ESC 2012 now known as Knicker Flash Year

By:
Love Moldova and surely more family friendly lunacy than Austria
By:
Thx bex & fig

By:
Me too Bex, yet plenty seem to fancy it's chances
By:
np mug. As Bex says. It's a knicker lovers dream

I think I'm reaching the stage they are all to familiar to me to judge effectively.
The ones I have liked most tonight are the ones I din't bother listening to their rehearsals as I'd discounted them already |
By:
More knickers on show than the M&S lingerie department in this semi final
By:
We have a stage invasion!
Oh no, it's Jedward |
By:
I liked Waterline on first hearing. Each subsequent listen it moves down my ranking. Can't say its particularly car crash but I hope the tv shots with the fountain are far more impressive than we are seeing

I thought the vocal was actually pretty good, but yes I would like to know more about how the staging is translated on tv screens.
By:
Ent odds review up
By:
I was expecting worse too Bex. It was just more of Jedward being Jedward
By:
FLL - re: Switzerland - is it like a speeded up Furniture, Brilliant Mind ?
similar sort of vocals anyway |
By:
could be. I'll take another listen. I keep thinking ultravox for some reason, but can't think of which song.
By:
As for jr's view. I'm totally at odds with him regards Cyprus/Greece and Austria/Moldova.
Agree with him about Denmark and think it looks overpriced |
By:
I'm leaving this semi very much alone as a betting heat. I have laid Ireland at a loss just to guarantee some money back. As long as Romania and Iceland go through I'll be cool.
I don't see many potential ESC winners here I think there are more in semi 2 even though its overall a weaker semi |
By:
For me Denmark the one potential winner from the semi with a good draw...or maybe Cyprus ;) if she can nail that bit that tends to be flat
By:
Apparently Jonsi a bit off again in the jury rehearsal, not good but apparently is fine after his ropey start
Our stream not working so just getting this from http://escxtra.com/2012/05/semi-final-1-second-dress-rehearsal/ |

AKOE on Iceland:
Very dramatic , Greta and Jonsi really deliver this well, Very moody blue ice backdrop. Greta very dramatic with the violin. Great camera work here. Some pyros at the end. A fantastic performance , this should make the final. |
By:
Dan on twitter thought Iceland was better. So you pays your money you make your choice.
JR is going to post some snippets too |
By:
A shame the greek guy couldn't leave his webcam on in the press centre
By:
is it working now Albania or is that a repeat?
By:
Eleftheria hit a bum note at the start of 'Aphrodisiac' but was solid after that.
Only the one? |
By:
i think it may be live
By:
Pretty sure it's a repeat mate.
By:
yeh ur right
By:
He just rewound Greece. So I'm not convinced
By:
03. Greece
Not a strong start here for Eleftheria who was notable out of tune on the first verse- and it continued into the second. The choruses are better, and the end of the song is vastly better from the beginning, but this was not the performance she needed tonight. |

AKOE on Greece
GREECE This is looking much slicker on the screen. The dancers are more in time. The vocals are still slightly ropey at times. But overall this is a typical Greek Eurovision song and usually should still qualify. |
By:
So all mention a ropey vocal in parts. They only differ on how ropey
By:
AKOE Albania - guess I now which side of the marmite debate Andrew is with:
Rona Nishliu in a wonderfully classy blue dress , her hair in a bun with a strand down round her neck. Very simple presentation lots of close ups very deep red backdrop to start, lots of spotlights. Lots of dry ice really effective on screen, her top range is spot on. This is really really classy. Wonderful performance a definite qualifier. |
By:
The correct side ;)
By:
I think somehow he meant to say really, really painful but by then his brain had been fried and he put classy by mistake

ESCextra Ro;
06. Romania This is a confident performance with very polished staging from Mandinga. The lighting works well for them, and they’re moving around enough to keep things interesting on the camera and not making the stage look too big for them. On the second chorus, they are fire pyros shooting up from the edge of the stage before they go back down for the bridge. The fire coming back again for the final chorus is a bit much, but this was good and should be in the final. |

and AKOE
ROMANIA This is so damn catchy. Really good movement from Mandiga lovely backdrop from black and white drums to colourful hearts. Vocally really good too from Elena, lots of fire too. At one point she sits on the drum. Really expect this to qualify. Could win the Semi Final. |
By:
Extra pyros and "heys" from the band give Romania even more oomph
