Romania is an interesting one, quite liked the video for it but I find the actual rehearsals just a bit naff. The 5 people playing instruments and their staging is all just a bit too childish for my taste, I don't think her voice is that great either.
On the other hand they do have a good recent record and I did like it the first time I listened to it. |

I think Romania is a lot better live than on the video because the fun they are having comes across well and that her vocal is excellent. Her breathing can get strained occasionally because she hardly gets a break

I agree about the staging sean. Naff was my initial thoughts.
The singer sounds pretty good to my ears tho. I've sort of gone the other way and like it more now than I did on the 1st few listens. It still strikes me as a song that's a very good opening 30 seconds, followed by 2m 30secs of meh. |

Sorry to keep going on about it - I think it has the most instatntly attention grabbing 30 seconds of any song and that it ends extremely well. In between probably doesn't matter that much as long as they are having fun

Dress rehearsal. Looking forward to the nice pins on the Romanian girl now:
18:51 ROMANIA: The song starts with the stage in white with pictures of drums on the backdrop. It looks reallty effective. Elena is in a very short red dress which keeps blowing up revealing her corset and the rest of the band dance around her in a circle. The whole performance is nothing short of fun, and it’s a massive contrast to the drama from Albania before. This is sure to get loads of televotes from around Europe, but will the juries feel the same? Still, it looks like a qualifier to us from here. |

Bex, Playing With Fire was a much stronger song than Never Forget, and did well with both Juries and Televoters. I doubt we will be saying the same of Iceland 2012.

Fair nuff,Fig. Looking beyond the song and the visual, look at the bigger picture, pics from backstage and press conferences etc - they're like a breath of fresh air. If they smile and look like they're having any more fun, they could burst!
Contrast that with Sour-Puss Winehousali. I predict a flip flop there before the final! All about the full package! |

First short break between Albania and Romania - is this important for the semi I wonder. And leaves they mention in the rehearsal that Albania didn't qualify last year hmmm sympathy vote?

The only sympathy that should be doled out after Albania is for the viewers whose ears were bleeding. The more I hear it, the more I think it will fail.

19:14 CYPRUS: Ivi is standing on a book which seems to be made of tables. Just as the song started, Eleftheria from Greece came into the Press Centre to watch Ivi’s performance. The choreography is pretty good, but the outfits onf the backing singers are awful. The dance break is really effective. Ivi’s vocals aren’t as great as they have been in the last though,but she gets better towards the end. I still think the whole performance is strong enough to qualify, and Ivi gets one of the loudest applauses of the day as the song ends!

The general concencus on Ireland appears to be muchly improved. I am yet to see the footage myself to give my own opinions.

19:39 IRELAND: Now it’s the final song! Jedward are on the stage in HORRENDOUS silver and gold outfits, they’ve ditched their trademark hairstyle for a flat style with a fringe, which doesn’t look greay either. The water feature looks a bit cheap too. Their vocals are really poor too, and they’re basically carried the whole length of the song by the backing vocalists. They finish the song inside the waterful getting drenched. I think this is even WORSE than Valentina. They’re in real danger now.

LOL, the 3 blogs I just read where much more positive, but interesting to get another take.

I have found a few more comments about Ireland and in fairness the reviews are decidely mixed. Some think it was a major improvement, others a complete disaster.

re:Ireland are there actually many allies in the first semi? when I look at the list I'm not so certain where they pick up votes despite their heavy pre contest promotion

I don't think Ireland have that many allies as such, but Jedward do have if that makes sense. Their appeal and developing fanbase is what will bring Ireland televotes.
