I've not taken much notice of what the Icelandic woman is wearing.
I seem to be alone, but her voice really grates on me.

Can't see me changing tack with Germany - I'll keep him green OR but wont be playing any other market with him. Could well be top 10 but the price isn't high enough for me and cant see him in the top 4 or 5
Just don't want to take any chances tho - he's easy to keep onboard at this price and later starters imo are even more favoured this year than last, with the phone lines not opening until they all finish (unlike last year)

I guess you won't have read this leaves. ESCbet review of Spain 1st rehearsal. Had to post if only to wind you up Cool

Spain have a lot to be proud of in ‘Quédate Conmigo’ and Pastora always gives it 100%.  My one gripe with Pastora in the past has been her facial expressions – she looks as if she’s constipated, which for an intimate and emotional song where the camera will mostly be focussed on the face, it’s not a good look for the viewing public to endure.  I’m disappointed to say that the constipated look returned again today.  To add insult to injury, Pastora is eventually joined on stage by five marauding backing singers that dip to a lower register when they should be following Pastora to the skies.  Spain have a great draw, fantastic song and an outstanding singer, but they stand to lose what could be an extremely respectful finish if they fail to address these presentational concerns – right now, they are forgotten after Germany.

just watched the 2nd rehearsal of Iceland. It's so dark and bleak.
TBF the woman sounds ok on her own, it's when she's singing with the guy that it hurts my ears.

You mean the song itself or the staging or both? Laugh as dark and bleak

I'm pretty sure on tv it wont look that way - the backdrop is quite impressive an dvery blue and when they meet up later in the song there is lighter hues and ofc the red on the key change
By:

Both, but was referring mostly to the staging.
As you say, much like Sweden it won't look so dark on the tv feed.

I have slightly gone off Iceland tbh and it never was a strong betting fancy just a song I liked a lot.

For betting purposes Norway and Romania re now my biggest hopes and should one or either get a good draw I'll have a decent ew bet with the highstreet to 4 places. Not that you agree with those 2 any more than you do with Iceland Laugh

Germany vocally strong and I have always liked the song. Maybe just a little MOR

I couldn't back him before the final itself - I need to see how it looks on the tv. These long shot rehearssal views are useless for this type of song. It looks boring as hell but as you infer, his looks and the interaction with the camera are pretty central to selling it

The same thing happened yesterday. It had over 500 likes and just 301 views.
It's due to the views taking awhile to update, whereas the likes update immediately.

As for Romania. I found myself tapping my foot along to it yesterday. It's winning me over Grin

I agree about the bizarre criticism over the backing singers in the Spanish song.
The constipated face is another favourite of the nitpickers.

It reminds me of last year and the strange criticism of Azer about the woman looking old enough to be the guys mum.

I'm not as confident as I was bexley that's for sure.  But these days my only concern is winning dosh.  Likes in ESC can be cyclical but today mostly I am liking Spain the best.

I have 10 countries Green on here for the win, and none of the top 6 at all...

With you on that one, popking.  Gonna be like the Grand National - will have a decent middle runner coming up on the line to win - cue Serbia, Romania or Norway!  Excited

Great thread guys, just a few of my thoughts.

Not feeling the massive love for Spain, I think its a fine ballad but dont think it will make a dent to the top 5. Italy on the other hand is just tremendous although the price for it seems fair.

Figgy, going to have to massively disagree with you about Iceland, I think its very good and would be my bet to top the jury voting. I do love Finland like you but we are in a minority there when it comes to Europe.

Russia, I cant have anywhere near the top 10 let alone winning. Norway, I like and could spring a surprise. Serbia will do well.

I'm going off Romania everytime I listen to it, Cyprus is far better.

Out of the outsiders I like Macedonia, I would chop a 0 of their price.

I'll leave others to discuss Sweden but I'll say she should defs be favorite.

Sean's a good judge and I'm happy he seems to be in agreement with me over quite a lot - Spain, Iceland, Norway, Serbia.
One disagreement amongst that lot isn't too bad - You are sooo wrong tho' over Romania Sean Laugh Wink

Excellent song and presentation for me.
The viewers on youtube tend to agree, but many of the bloggers and most opinion on here is far from keen.
My only worry is jr's comments about her voice sounding worse on the tv feed than it does on the videos shot in the stadium. Where for me she sounds more than good enough for a song of this type

You seem to be painting a 'you against the crowd picture' for Cyprus leaves. I'd say actually that whenever I dismiss its chances many leap to defend it. Its more loved than hated on here is my impression

I really like the record, my 4th favourite on the CD but I struggle to see it doing well, particluarly if the vocal if off, and with limited diaspora.

I have it as a borderline (but likely) qualifier, and then unless it's really helped by the draw a bottom 6 finisher.  With a last 6 draw, it could make high teens.
