Alright gays - been away from the party for a while, what's the buzz?
![]() Had a few ticklers to get me started so far this year, mainly Norway, Estonia and an outsider on Slovenia and Israel (not fully sure why). Looking at the vids so far, I'm not really changing my mind so from what I've seen. Israel - have to discuss this one from earlier - they have a great song, and could be quirky, but their rehearsal looked totally boring!? |
|
By:
You say boring but I loved the backdrop with the clocks. Agree that it's a pukka song. Got matched today at 700 just for fun. Surely it'll come down and give me a run if nothing else.
|
|
By:
Yeh, was comparing it to an earlier vid I saw where they were much more 'performing' the song (circus themed, with mad costumes and moves etc) - maybe they'll boost it up a bit for the main shows?

Same problem with Serbia that I have with Spain its so fooking slow to get going. 1min 40+ of slow ballad dull backdrop and then it improves hugely. At least Serbia has the voting allies but I still think a lot of Western audiences will have switched off mentally after the start.
Am I getting a bit overly analytical with this? There are a couple of songs really grab me right from the word go that I'd much rather back - even last year Azeb opened with the oh-oh's and the clever armography |
|
By:
I'm with honest on Israel, stu.
The best backdrop of any song and I thought the circus theme would have just made it look like a throwaway novelty song, rather than the very decent guitar pop song that it is. Hard to know what market to back it in tho. Maybe 2.2 ish to qualify looks the bet. The juries tend to give Israel a boost and it's a viewer friendly song too. |
|
By:
the same here for Serbia...when it starts i'm waiting for someone to shout "iceberg"...don't like it at all, far too serious and morose for my tastes.
|
|
By:
Spain isn't slow to start Bex
![]() That piano line hooks you in from the start. |
|
By:
I agree Serbia is and doesn't really improve. It's the type of song that does well in the east tho.
Albania slow to start too, but wow it's fooking awesome when it gets going. |
|
By:
In saying all that about Serbia I'm still keeping it nicely green at 18

Does anyone get the general macedonia love? ie she's amazing, great song, certain qualifier?
Can't stand it |
|
By:
I'm with you on this one Bex.
Nothing has changed for me from my initial thoughts; Poor Female rock ballad. No fooking chance 3/10 |
|
By:
Can I ask where it comes on your list in that semi Bex?
|
|
By:
Its 4th in voting allies leaves, but drawn 2 and a song I also gave 3/10 for I don't get the love for it from every blogger
|

By:
behind Serbia, Bosnia and Turkey in that order and ahead of Geogia in 5th FWIW

Oiko on Netherlands:
Netherlands is something most of us dislike. Joan Franka is giving the same performance with lots of happiness in her face, the fires will be moved away from her because she had some eye irritation but this is not going to the final My highlight as I wholeheartedly agree ![]() |

Its the one problem with semi 2 that I have leaves. There is a lot of potential for a voting block 'carve up' with the voting strengths very heavily skewed in favour of the front 6 or 7 in my calculation.
If it was on song and performance strength alone this semi would be extremely easiy to predict. However jury effect and the way last year went makes me much less worried by this aspect but its still ringing a warning bell to not get too heavily involved. |
|
By:
Those saying Turkey might not qaulify however are way out both on voting strength and my opinion of the song and performance. A bit like Greece last year I don't think its necessarily for western ears but is going to do very well I believe relative to expectations.
I'd be happy for it to keep drifting so I could get a good price for top 10 overall |
|
By:
just seen Ukraine rehearsal...1/3 to qualify is (i've never said this before)...FREE MONEY !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IWxRT9kfl8&feature=plcp regarding Turkey qualifying...there are only 4 songs in this semi that will qualify on merit...NORWAY,SWEDEN,UKRAINE & SERBIA...TURKEY WILL QUALIFY BY DEFAULT...there is phuck-all there to make up the 10...the rest are a phuck!ng joke imo. |
|
By:
I'm not a fan of the Turkish record, but I have it as a nailed on qualifer too.

phuck me Ukraine is so good...what a show !

Sweden 2nd.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vRQSyrN24A&feature=plcp all that is audible to me in this song is "euphoria" and a few other words...they need to make all the lyrics clearer...it's no good sitting on the stage mumbling incoherant lyrics...also i see no need for the fat bloke trying to kick her head off ![]() |

Must be a layer at the earlier prices! ![]() |

Will be interested to see what Rob and Dan think but on the back of today it aint happening live.

I think it looks good visually but the mumbling and lack of connection are a concern.

Dan at Sofabets review of Sweden
I’ve sat on the fence regarding Sweden so far, but now I’m starting to get off it. My fears that the presentation is too arty-farty and alienating are being realised. Having got rid of the purple spotlights witnessed in the first rehearsal, the stage is now as dark as it was in Melodifestivalen, Loreen is wearing a dress with fringed arms, as if her hair wasn’t enough flying around in her face, whilst the snow effect was one big ‘meh’ today. Loreen continues to mumble too much, especially in the first verse. She also took little interest in the camera. The overall effect was the opposite of emotionally engaging, which is precisely what defines recent Eurovision winners. Whilst ‘Euphoria’ will no doubt look a lot more polished when it matters, and I won’t write it off yet for that reason, the mood it’s creating just isn’t very accessible compared to what we’ve seen succeed of late. |

Weren't the fringed arms used during MF?
For me it's just a lot of hole picking from those who were never keen. Todays schedule. Macedonia is a brilliant song IMO, love the chorus hook. Not so sure about the rock bit but the song certainly has an impact. Far too big to win the whole thing. I've been nibbling the 500s all week.
|
|
By:
I'd be more concerned about the criticism of the low-key substance of the performance, though of course that could change a bit for the main show. Betting wise it seems to me there are enough issues with sweden to make you question the current price, whether it eventually wins or not.
|
|
By:
Wrote that before watching.
They are different and a little messy tbf. A minor negative imo. The rest looks and sounds fine and much as before. |

Sweden from oiko :Loreen is certainly the best presentation again. Sweden’s entrant is creating you a mystic feeling when watching it although she is not exactly the best vocal performer.
Andrew AKOE: Sweden up next 2nd Rehearsal. Loreen is again on the platform and the lighting is very dark and allows for many sillouette shots and close ups of her face. Sometimes this doesnt work as all you see is her hair. Otherwise visually very atmospheric capturing the mood of the song. I feel that Loreen's vocals were not all there today, either holding back or still recovering from her throat infection she mention the other day. Also the final lift is done with a slow mo effect on camera which is terrific. Overall she needs to nail the vocal performance then this will have a strong chance, otherwise it may scrape into the top 10. Escextra: Next up is the much anticipated Euphoria by Loreen from Sweden. Her performance looks pretty much the same as the previous rehearsal and the Swedish final. Interestingly, she is coming second in the press centre voting -- but not sure how much you can trust the fans! The snow effect is looking a little messy the second time round. Same camera shots are being used, so nothing to comment on from that perspective. |

Might be best to see what johnny thinks, but thus far Ive only found one person who thought it was great. I was fairly neutral up until today, but my concern that what you see at the mf final isnt necessarily what you get, is coming to fruition. She struggles badly to get it to studio quality live.
Theres not much harm laying at 2.86 anyway because as the punters start to look at this market I dont think that many will want to take 15/8 in a 43 runner race. |
|
By:
Somehow despite being pretty much the same as Melodifestivalen its not coming across so well here imo. Vocals on the 2 rehearsals probably not to be trusted but anything other than Euphoria and the uh uh uh up bit is virtually a mumble.
If it was going to be a runaway winner it probably will still do so. If like me you questioned whether this was ever a winning song your doubts have to be reinforced. To those who say its different class and there are no serious rivals haven't watched the rehearsals here thats for sure. Bad draw could scupper it. Trying to be impartial here ![]() |

By:
To those who say its different class and there are no serious rivals haven't watched the rehearsals here thats for sure - sorry that wasn't clear. What I was meaning was not that Loreen is so terrible, I mean other countries rehearsals have been impressive imo and their odds should be coming in. Some tremendous ew value around. Thank you Loreen

Ultimately you have to go on your own view JOT.
You'd have struggled to find a positive review of last years winner that wasn't nitpicking about something. ofc Azer were 14/1 and Sweden are 15/8, so I can see your logic in being a layer at the price. Personally I've seen or heard nothing to suggest she's not a very worthy fav. |
