DOI skate off or the old SCD dance off would perhaps have been others but now the liquidity is awful

I thought there was better value in those two winning actually. Ryan O especially. I thought if Aqua and another act had done very well and Ryan was 2nd (very unlikely he wouldn't win) they may well not have put him though - final stuffed with singers already, Cowell not wanting to encourage talent show contract breakers.

I didn't bother with the last DOI or SCD because of liquidity. I probably will do SCD this year as I actually missed watching it, it's the only reality programme I enjoy just in itself.

* may well have NOT put Ryan through

That halfwit female akoe blogger is back again , I really believed they had quite rightly dumpd her. She tips the grannies as winners because a few journos were apparently in tears over their performance and this means the professional juries will now rate it highly apparently. Jesus wept Cry

I think I have mixed a bit of Andrews opinion in ther as well but they seem to have granny groupthink anyway. Never mind the fact the competition is as good as over as a serious song competition if they win

I guess I should really thank them as the russia back to lay trade is going to swept along by this sentimentality. Its the big news item everywhere and will continue to be.Cool

She also said "Hopefully it will finally be the year that Latvia qualifies" which isn't that likely in itself but mainly is ignorant of the fact that they won the competition in 2002. Laugh

The amount of big money just waiting to back Russia continues to surprise me. I don't think it's traders like you. I think it's Russians who have made easy money, not in gambling, they dump it on and come back a couple of days later to see if it's matched.

More from AKOE about Russia:

Andrew  “This is not exactly the most perfect vocals here in Baku but honestly it does not need to be, this is the first SERIOUS contender for the victory on May 26th.” [his capitalisation, not mine]

Keith “Clearly there has been a lot of rehearsing done on this. The first contender for victory that we’ve seen so far.”

****. Are they all clueless or do they know the juries better than us?

Serbia much as anticipated on 1st reports.

Serbia - bit dull and plodding, saved from being totally dull by the musicians.

Macedonia - dull and totally forgettable.

The Netherlands - disappointing, OTT with the Village People Indian look.  Fires too distracting.  Not a great vocal and drowned out anyway.

Malta - seem to be a lot of Toby Anstis lookalikes on the stage.  Not bad but doesn't really stand out, other similar songs are likely to do better.  Picks up towards the end.

Humpy on TM this morning.  Assume singing at the end.

poor rehearsals this morning on the whole and Serbia is really starting to bore me.

Written off Malta's qualification hopes although following these 3 snoozefests may help

Serbia might be a default top 5 but not a default winner for me

It is a rubbish day tbh, the thing One of the things I like about Serbia is its simplicity similar to Moltiva in that respect and could be 3 mins of sanity amidst the mayhem in the final.
That said I wouldnt be rushing to buy his album Sad was going to write L.P. then until I remembered.

Subjectively speaking I think Serbia and Macedonia are beautiful songs Happy

Vocally a bit disappointing - sounds a bit tight and strangled.

Belarus - generic Euro soft rock stuff, sounds very similar to something i can't place atm.  Adequate all round but nothing outstanding, and has a pretty similar look and sound to Malta that goes before it??

Propaganda - Duel, what a brilliant ESC tune that would be.

You love those 80's tunes squares Happy

Some relief from the Netherlands (atleast for western viewers). Though the headdress is back, which I'm far from convinced is a good idea.

I honestly still don't understand why people like this years Netherlands. I have the ESC CD in the car and without at first realising who it was I skipped past it after about 10 seconds. i then tried to watch the reheasal but gave up after a minute this time.

I'd have it in the 1000/1 club but its been matched at under 100 and not that long ago

agree with Keith : Great start to the day, but Netherlands really disappoints, shrill singing, silly staging and totally charmless Non-qualifier #eurovision
By:

When: 15 May 12 13:24
So we have a utterly pants song for a country with just about a zero % recent qualification record, no voting allies which in some way explains the qualifying stat, its drawn 3 in the semi and its less than 200 for OR.

Makes Sweden look amazing value

I love her voice and can see nothing wrong with the rehearsal on that front.
I agree the headdress is a mistake, but the song is hugely charming and melodic.
Though clearly a little too folksy for many.

Portugal - really unflattering dress/colour, must have The Voice stylists on board.  Dynamic looking backing singers, esp the blokes. Plain

For completion and those who are out making an honest days living.

Belarus.

Similar to Malta. Which could be a slight hinderance to their chances.

Portugal.

Back to the dull female ballads for Portugal after a dalliance with something a little different last year Grin

For me Netherlands is the one piece of light in a pretty dire start to this semi final.

Tho as an old hippie at heart, it is a song that was always likely to appeal to me.
