i too think Romania will do very well, it's in my top 4...however i've mentioned this before with regards to anything in Spanish having a large quantity of youtube hit's...the South American's give them a massive youtube boost...it was the same for Spain last year.
correct me if i'm wrong but the Romanian song is sung mostly in Spanish is it not ?...hence the 5m+ youtube hit's.

Well I'd say its 2/5 English 3/5 Spanish kind of but with Youtube you can examine the geographical hits anyway and looks like zero to me from SA. Its mainly Spain, Portugal, Italy and Romania from what I can tell

Romania actually gives me the feel of a "south american" number...i can imagine it being performed on a street in Rio with loads of latino babes dancing in the street half naked Excited
if this gets the votes, it could win...i remember backing "let me try" a few years back and that did very well.

ok. i ve read the 10 last pages about the topic and i wanna give u some info's and personal thoughts about it.
1st of all ivi adamou is bad in her live appearences she needs autotune for sure plus that she is only 18 and unexperienced not ordinary in greece and cyprus to be under 20 and have already started a career in singing so prizes like 45-50 are reasonable.
2nd Sweden is the crystal clear favorite having a pop-dance-clubby song written by eurovision veterans like peter bostrom (also composed tooji's song) and thomas g:son (sweden 2001, 2006, denmark 2010)plus that swedes are preparing swedbank arena for mf and maybe....eurovision 2013.
3rd italy is overrated but with a special jazzy but boring song especially for the televoters and in early final draw and im not sure if juries will vote for second year in a row the same country.
4th the airplay in greece is about greece cyprus and sweden nothing else.
5th finally greece has an uptempo song but again with a bouzouki element which is lame and not ethnic or folk. its pathetic to say that.if bouzouki wasnt the song would be better. and maybe a sure top 10.
6th about serbia and any other country which sends the same contestant for 2nd 3rd etc...time is a definite minus.the only exceptions are dima bilan and carola.
7th greek national broadcaster will send delegation in baku after all.
ok im done. Personal belief is that sweden easily or not will be the winner. not influenced by ogae or polls or anything else.

This is a poor field this year. The fact that I want the Russian grannies and Romania on my side says it all.

Sweden could easily be the Frankel in the field. Could blow this lot away

Keith from AKOE about Sweden:

I never was a huge fan of the euphoric dance music scene which dominated clubs in Ibiza and elsewhere, 15-20 years ago, so this rather pale pastiche of it leaves me completely cold. It's lack of originality, even in the Kate Bush circa 1977 dance moves is probably more striking to people who have been following music for a long time and that could impact the appeal to juries. I see it qualifying with ease, but I struggle to see its appeal being wide enough to win "

Don't usually agree with him so a bit worried about it this time but very much my view also

I bet he was never a Lily Allen or Kate Nash fan either Silly

People get too hung up on catergorising music.

Is it a catchy or memorable song? Will it be vocaly strong? (if it's the kind of song that requires a strong vocal, which Sweden is). Will it be well staged?

For me it ticks all 3 boxes and I lean towards Clay's view of it's chances more than Keith's

It's also the strength of the opposition. There doesn't even appear to be any dangerous lurkers in the field. When you think about it, Sweden deserved to be strong favourites. Could bolt up. Decent draw in the final and it's game over

So is someone going to answer my question on whether Loreen has had more sucess on youtube and charts than Eric at an equivalent stage last year. Surely thats an important question for people backing it at 9/4?

Wasn't Eric well over 2m hits at this stage. So I'll say it hasn't and seems nothing like the phenom Eric was and he came 3rd and could be backed at 8/1 ish at this stage.

Why doesn't Sweden have a glossy Loreen video anyway, don't they want to win?

Sweden is fanwank pure and simple for me - doesn't need much competition to see this fail

I have thought about it a lot Clay and I don't agree. No dangerous lurkers - can't have that either. Decent draw in the final it may have a chance but still wouldn't back it

I tend to agree Clay. Unless something else runs away with the jury vote and can manage a top 5 with the public.

I fail to see how a large proportion of the viewers and juries won't be impressed with the Swedish package as a whole.

Nearly 3M on this video Bex.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4PMQB5zmAU

And when you can perform the song live as well as Loreen does, there's no need for any glossy video.

As for comparions with Eric. I can't imagine anyone over 14 having voted for it.

Euphoria has broader appeal. Is vocally in a different league and is far more jury friendly.

bexley I'm surprised you are referring to youtube stats. Who cares? You'd be skint in all specials following them.

As for charts see this page.  Some countries entries couldn't even top their own charts.

Well we aren't that far away from finding out thank god. if Sweden wins comfortably I'll be amongst the first to say well done and admit I had it wrong. For now I remain convinced this is one of the worst value bets I have ever seen.

George I mention youtube not because its important to me but because when theres a fundamental difference in opinion over a song then I look towards whatever factual evidence is available to see if it tells me anything.

I can't convince anyone that its not that great a song and not the type to do well in Eurovision if thats not their view so I am giving up trying Cool

I don't think it's a great song, but it's a great package.

Much like Lena, which many were saying 'wasn't the type to do well in Eurovision'

I loved Satellite, as you may have realised at the time ;), but there were far bigger worries to my mind as to whether the juries in particular would 'get it'

responding to the very first post i would say that s club 7 steps or atomic kitten would be better solution than humperdinck. Definitely. Now about Eric Saade, popular has had by far the best music in 2011 esc but the poor lyrics was the main and only reason for not finishing 1st or 2nd. And thats a little bit weird cause Fredrik Kempe have composed many nice songs with good lyrics. This years popular seems to be stay by tooji with better lyrics but not so easy to the eye face of tooji like eric was last year.Whatever. Azerbaijan had a song composed and written by swedes and a brit and azeris delegation was about 60 people huge number for a country's delegation. Finally, swedes have all the money and more and more to organize a contest like moscow's at 2009 full of glamour a huge stage in a brand new arena. neither of p.i.g.s. country wants to spend the money for a 2013 eurovision (pigs = portugal italy greece spain). P.S. lena's satellite is composed and written by julie frost who also has created masterpiece of madonna.

I like the Danish song and I want Romania and Russia on side just for the comedy value.

But the Swedish act will be a huge green for me.

I agree with Five about the similarities between Lena and this year's Swedish act. Lena stood out like a sore thumb in a poor field. Got a decent draw and won easy.

One way or another, Sweden deserves to be that price. I doubt many could argue with that

I think it is too narrow a view to take Henry.  If you use "polls" in its widest sense you have: the swedish viewers who voted for it big style, the international juries in Melodifestivalen who almost gave it straight 12s, the fact that it has topped charts/done well in a number of countries.

If that is the reason why songs top polls how do you explain Fairytale doing same?

By:
Henry VIII
When: 04 May 12 22:05
I think Fairytale had broader appeal. It was a very rare fansite correct no. 1 call.

The juries were a very small number of people, no way of saying that ESC juries will be similar.

Euphoria's a new thing for ESC, Lordi heavy metal worked, opera failed, so who knows what will happen with club/trance.

Euphoria's a strong entry but there are other strong entries.

New version. Love it. With some you worry about the vocals on the night. Not with this girl. Bang on the money every time.

You should be worried by that mess George. She's getting overconfident - thinking that song stands by itself regardless of staging.

Also lyrically the song is mediocre. I'm actually thinking it's less strong each time I see it, maybe I was caught up in the fansite social cohesion.
