Eurovision 2012 market up on BF
So far we know one finalist, Switzerland; Albania choose tonight. |
|
By:
Albania's entry - Rona Nishliu can certainly bang out a tune. Albania always seem to choose solo female vocalists.

The best bit kicks in with the violins just after 3 minutes - sadly, Eurovision songs can be no longer than 3 minutes so they're gonna have to do a clever editing job.

Cheers jr. Not bad.
Russian's not listed? |

The juries will love it.

It's a requium for Norman Wisdom.
They loved him in Albania. |

Armenia not turning up?

Wiki say the jury is out on Armenia. They haven't had the secruity guarantees as yet.
We need some more Boom Boom Chaka Chaka. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vafSfZYHIOg |

Yes, big question mark over Armenia, fig, cos of history between them and Azer. Think there are still a good few unconfirmed but they must confirm by around mid-January when they compile semi-finals, I think.
As always, this is an excellent resource: . http://allkindsofeverything.ie/Baku12grid.htm |

Yep, always a good site. Even with their slight bias towards the Irish ;)..and the way they take against certain songs for no good reason, or chaampion others, again with no real logic.
Russia taking part according to them and wiki, so I'll email betfair later. |

Yep, Russia in for sure. Just found this - certainly more news compared to last year when first footage of Russia song was recorded at gig on a mobile phone, if I recall correctly:
Russia: National final to be held on February 26th Russia will be holding its national final on February 26th 2012. A total of 25 acts will take part in the televised selection show. Preparations for Eurovision 2012 have already started, as auditions are scheduled to start before the end of the year. Auditions will be held until the month of February. A special jury will select a total of 25 acts to proceed to the Russian national final, to be aired on February 26th on the public broadcaster Rossiya 1 of RTR. Previously, all finalist songs will be published on the broadcaster's website. The winner and therefore Russian representative in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest will be decided through jury voting and televoting. Russia was represented in Eurovision 2011 by Alex Sparrow and the song Get you. The country ended up on the 16th place in the Düsseldorf final. |
|
By:
If they have any sense they will follow Sweden's lead of having foreign juries part selecting their entry.

Russia added now.
I've put some prices up for fun. http://sports.betfair.com/Index.do?mi=104582460&ex=1&origin=MRL |

Very disappointed with that Albanian entry - I've liked their songs the last two years but defo not this year. First lay of 2012!
As for the 3 minute rule, they can certainly edit out close to a minute's worth from the start. The Greek 2010 effort had a weary opening when you watched the official video but for performance purposes they got straight into the song and chopped the opening minute off - I'm sure albania will do the same. Here's one to remind you of from last year. Scandal that it wasn't chosen to represent Moldova - still love listening to this from time to time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUN1G1Jj9cU |

Albania is an awful dirge, but I rather like it.

Wanted to bump this thread as national qualifiers in full swing now, 5 final songs already known and the Maltesers have their NF on Sat :)
|
|
By:
yep, we need to get a bit more activity on here - forum and markets.
When do those real ESC nuts usually turn up? When we have a few more songs known I guess. |

Sunshine Head, funkypunk... worth re-visiting last year's ESC threads for entertainment value alone

And honestcl - Pasha Parfeny trying for Moldovan qualification again. This year's effort nowhere near as good as last year's imho - surely the best ESC tune not to make the finals. Dorule really was a beauty. Love those pan pipes

Looks like none of them want the poisoned chalice of hosting it in these financially straitened times so they are all putting in crap songs; least worst wins. If I'm reading wiki right it seems Sweden have dropped using foreign juries to part pick their choice. Shame.

Jedward's song for Eurovision entitled "What's Your Number?"

By:
Superbowl is done and now it's 3.5 months of immersing myself in the best event of the lot! Right, do we have any potential winners selected yet?
If there's one thing I learnt last year is don't back too early - at least until all the songs are out. As for laying, let's face it, there are some that can be laid straight away! Note to whoever it was that I rowed with over Romania last year (funky ore Johnny Rant) you were right - it was dire - not sure why I had a strong liking for that early on!! |
|
By:
Money for Hungary over the last few days but I haven't beenthrough the finalists yet.
No runaway winner in the semi finals, so seems odd |
|
By:
Bizarrely I dreamt last night that Jedward murdered a work colleague of mine. I witnessed the act but didn't go the police. Not sure what it means but nice to see that Eurovision-related thoughts are even entering my head during sleep....and it's still three months to go!!

is there still some indecision over which song Jedward use or has the name been changed?
Unreality TV reported yesterday that they had a song called Waterline: Jedward are hoping to represent Ireland in the Eurovision song contest for the second time, it has been reported. Last year they boys headed to Düsseldorf, to perform their track ‘Lipstick’ in 2011 competition and ended up finishing in eighth place. The X Factor stars are keen to repeat the experience and have chosen a track named “Waterline”, which was penned written by Nick Jarl – who has previously written with Westlife – for their 2012 Eurovision entry. The track will also feature backing vocals from Leanne Moore – the winner of the 2008 series of Irish talent show You’re a Star – and former “X Factor” contestant Melanie McCabe. The famous twins have to win their place though and will compete against five other finalists on The Late Late Show’s ‘Eurosong 2012′ on the 24th February. Before the show the boys will be mentored by Linda Martin, who won the Eurovision back in 1992. If chosen, Jedward will then go on to perform the song in the European semi-final in May and if successful, they will progress to the final on May 26. |

And now, Waterline is available to listen to on DS headlines.
It's unbearably catchy in a Busted/McFly sort of way. Jedward have debuted a new song. The pair premiered 'Waterline' as a possible contender for Ireland's entry at this year's Eurovision Song Contest. Jedward - consisting of twins John and Edward Grimes - have yet to be formally selected to represent Ireland, but recently told Digital Spy that they're planning a "huge mega-performance". However, the duo previously announced that unheard song 'What's Your Number?' would be their Eurovision bid. Writing on Twitter last week, the siblings revealed: "Our Eurovision song is called 'Whats Your Number?'. Its a really fun song (sic). "You can listen to it millions of times and always smile! Ahhhhhhh we can't wait for your to hear it! Whats Your Number is gonna change the world!" Jedward's 2011 Eurovision entry 'Lipstick' gained them a following across Europe after the single charted in the top 20 in Ireland, Germany, Austria and Belgium. Later this month, Jedward will compete against other acts including Maria McCool and Donna McCaul for the opportunity to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. 'Waterline' will be available to download in Ireland from February 24. |

To be fair - their staging was superb last year and I even started to like the song by the Final. They're the sort of act that will attract (mainly) positive support. Can I take it the 1.36 is buying money?
