"Jamie Jones played really well."
Don't agree angles, don't agree at all. Bit of fight at the end maybe, when it was all a bit too late. |

"Jamie Jones played really well." I didn't hear Angles say that, but if Jones had - Selby would be out. Jones grafted hard, and kept believing in himself, but he missed so many clear cut chances. Selby's reaction at the end of the match suggested he couldn't believe he had won a match with such little preparation. He will need to improve, almost beyond recognition, to have any chance of going much further. But, at least he's through.
I can now see why Murphy chose not to practice yesterday morning now. All parts of his game seemed to be in good shape, apart from his break building, safety play and concentration. That said, you wouldn't rule out a comeback later. They finish tonight, and Maguire is likely to get very edgy if Murphy starts coming back, and can get the crowd on side, although there was clearly good support for both of them last night. It's the one 1st round match I hope goes really close. It could also get a bit twitchy tonight in the Hawkins v Page encounter, unless Page starts well. That later swoop from The Hawk to nick the last yesterday could be very significant, come the business end of tonight. |

Mags 85% pot success, 6-3 lead. I don't think either of them could play as bad again, but i could be wrong!
Jones had all the pundits and interviewers commending him on his fight and resilience and i fear that's what he'll take away from it rather than the bleak truth that he simply failed to show up until it was all too late. Generally there's a reason these late 20/early 30s players have spent their careers languishing outside the top 16/20 and that was an illustration of it. Couldn't take much hope for Selby from it either, was struck by how drawn and tired he looked after the match, brought home what a fckin terrible thing depression can be. Might improve his standard but enough to beat a solid guy like Yan, assuming he comes through? Can't see it quite frankly. |

I think Jones will see this as an opportunity missed. He knows what he needs to do to win matches here, and he came up short. Selby was there for the taking, and although he may well improve in R2 now he has that opening hurdle (and all the spotlight that went with it) out of the way - Jones will know deep down that he should have won that match. Anyway, time to get the chocolate digestives out, and put the coffee on - it's time for the opening episode of this year's installment of Licence. Could it be his year...?

Hate backing him in this tournament as he seems to have a knack of throwing it away when in form He’s been better than his one world title though in my opinion |

7/4 on the sportsbook for no centuries in the mcgill highfield match is the bet of the day. You just know they won't be making one.

Was out all day yesterday and just catching up now.
Page's scoring was really good across the match as a whole, like NOTHING he's produced on tour up to this point. Has he had a lightbulb moment? Two tons to finish it from 8-7, as well! See MJW started like a train, too! Was White bad in the early stages or MJW just too good? |
|
By:
I didn't see the MJW game Lats but from what I heard he just potted his way to a 7-2 lead.
