There were wider implications than getting some street flowerpots.

As I said on the other thread, not the ones pretending to be anxious.   I wouldn't be so sure on that myself.  Nothing would surprise me

If you research it (I have) PIP for MH is hugely inversely correlated with age.

Bit more than a few flowerpots ..

The county of Blaenau Gwent, where Ebbw Vale is located, received nearly $200 million (£150 million) in European Union redevelopment funds over a 15-year period leading up to the 2016 Brexit referendum

A465 Heads of the Valleys Road: The EU contributed £79 million toward the wider £900 million dual-carriageway upgrades, including an £82 million package that paid for more than half of the 5-mile section between Brynmawr and Tredegar bypassing Ebbw Vale

The Works Steelworks Regeneration: The EU co-funded a massive £350 million regeneration masterplan to convert the defunct Ebbw Vale Steelworks site. It delivered a new mixed-use development featuring housing, retail space, wetlands, and a learning campus.

Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone: The EU specifically backed the construction of this flagship further education campus located on the former steelworks site

Ebbw Vale Town Centre Regeneration: The European Convergence Programme approved a significant contribution toward a £12.2 million project to revitalize the main town center, with specific sub-allocations including £1 million directly for core town enhancements

The Regain Building: Subsidies funded this highly sustainable business incubation center built to foster commercial innovation and advance local clean-tech expertise

Ebbw Vale Enterprise Zone: Financial packages designated the town as a Tier 1 area, providing incoming manufacturing and commercial companies with the highest tier of corporate grant aid available anywhere in the UK

Reddit again, check the channel. 90% of people asking questions on reddit about PIP are all claiming for MH or conditions that can be gamed (fear of side effects). It's not reform supporters on reddit.

Obviously it's anecdotal, but provides a decent insight, and comedy value.

the ONS reports that the UK government's net contribution to the EU – that is, the difference between the money it paid to the EU and the money it received – was £11.0 billion in 2018 compared with the £20.0 billion theoretical liability.

Well Reform have done their bit too to benefit Clacton and Ebbw Vale.  In their one piece of draft legislation they've decide to reduce the tax on Crypto gains from 24% to 10%.  That'll level up the country and benefit the poor in Clacton and Ebbw Vale.  How very altruisitic of Farage and Harborne.  Oh and whilst they are at it block any research into a digital pound.  We wouldn't anything to negatively affect the value of crypto assets would we?

Quite obviously, the government could cut out the middle man and all of many negatives that came with eu membership, and funded the projects it wanted to.

I haven’t used Reddit in a very long time but it’s nice to see such a helpful and sincere community, and I thought it might help ease my anxieties to make a post.

I applied for PIP in Spring 2023 for OCD, though I was denied for not having a formal diagnosis. I received a formal diagnosis in September 2023. I reapplied for PIP at the beginning of this year after being recommended to do so due to how severe and debilitating my condition has gotten. I had my assessment in April and got my result in May with 0 points across everything, and the report was like reading about another person entirely. It was like they didn’t read anything I gave and the two additional statements I provided from my carer and somebody who sees the impact of my condition everyday.

I applied for a MR afterward and it was processed in June. On the 11th of August I received a text in the morning saying that they need to call me before reconsidering my case. I got the phone call and it was just security questions and asking if I could handle a lump sum of money.

I was already terribly anxious but my anxiety propelled massively after that phone call. I called the helpline on the 13th and they said a decision was made on the 11th, which I presume to be after my phone call, but they said that they can’t let me know the decision outcome and that I need to wait for the letter. I know this sounds dramatic, been so anxious to the point of tears and it has been all I’ve been thinking about. This condition has taken so much from me and has been so physically and mentally taxing to deal with every day and it’s so disheartening to be invalidated by being essentially told “haha no you don’t actually struggle”.

I saw that you receive a text if you were awarded and that you can see if you have been awarded on Gov Online but I haven’t gotten anything from either still, but maybe I’m just being impatient/paranoid because of how nervous I am. I’m just looking for some kind words and positivity and to not feel so alone. I know that there is a tribunal you can apply for but I have no idea how to get support for that.

Studies suggest that leaving the EU has reduced the UK economy's size by roughly 6%, translating to a loss of £100 billion to £240 billion annually in economic output and tens of billions in lost tax revenues, alongside a direct financial settlement ("divorce bill") estimated at around £30.2 billion to £37.1 billion.

yes well compare gdp to the major eu countries since we left. I'm pretty sure it's higher than Germany for example.

there is no tangible difference. we are in line with them.

obviously again, lockdowns destroyed any like for like comparison with the same country.

most people producing those studies have a huge agenda (ergo, making it up)

CLYDEBANK29
When: 16 Aug 26 18:13
On the bright side that's 100,000 extra jobs.  But of course they are public sector jobs so they have to be funded by tax revenue, and since we are losing 10s of billions it's no wonder we've the government's got no money

Cider, a word of warning about reddit content.
Since about 2 years ago, half or more of the content on reddit is AI generated.

Long story, management took steps to contol and monetise content prior to IPO.
A couple of these steps irked the vast majority of content creators and (unpaid) content moderators so
much that they gave up contributing.

AI Algorythms have taken over, replacing the previously human created content , generating a lot of the click bait stuff.

I'm not saying all the posts from reddit you are reposting here are AI generated, but the genre of click bait rage content that you are reposting is heavily created by AI on reddit.

You're enjoying reading these tales of fecklessness, does it matter to you if they are real or fake?
That's entirely your choice.

Maybe reddit has manufactured content, it's highly unlikely anything I am reading is. A pretty niche part of reddit I found by accident. There's no point as the people responding are of the same mindset. Everyone should be believed, is entitled et al. No different to any forum really, assorted nutters are available.

Reddit is a great place for bringing externally generated content into your eco system.
In general, You can assess the external sources bone fides and biases a lot easier.

Reddit content which is typed up stuff sourced from 'a bloke on the internet' is easy to AI generate, and should be read with a pinch of salt for amusement purposes only.

Correct me if I’m wrong Farage stood in safe seat and only managed to beat bin man 2-1,  for example if he had stood in Glasgow he would have been wiped out.
I maintain it looks like hollow victory to myself but in fairness he got job done but is all you can say positive about it from reform party.

Malay, not sure what point you are trying to make.

Farage increased his vote count from 21k in the 24 GE to 22k last week.
By:

Fair point but Flynn is anti union I think he’s SNP, so he is massively stand inEngland Farage in my limited knowledge is pro union, I might be wrong, so Farage could stand in Glasgow.

Cider I take you’re point and agree but you must agree he didn’t win convincingly against bin man.
By:

Malay, simple mathematics show that Farage won easily.

and he increased his vote.

As the other major parties chickened out (and with massive media help) then of course bin man was going to get lots more votes than he could ever have dreamed of.
By:

Malay who is anti or pro unionist is irrelevant. They both could stand where they want. Clearly there are reasons that Farage would never stand in Glasgow the same as there are reasons Flynn wouldn't stand in Clacton because they would both be wiped out.

Although looking at the state Glasgow has become over the last few years that may change in the future.

Any thoughts on the betting for 2nd by-election? Farage would be 1.01 from the outset so no interest there, but a 2nd place market would be interesting

Binface was there for the anti Farage locals and got 9,000 votes, so why would they need to look elsewhere next time?

Farage's issues will be forgotten and the focus will all be on whether Burnham and Badenoch 'lose to a bin'.

So this isn't working out the way Labour and Tories hoped, which makes me think there won't be a 2nd by-election.

just surprised the bin man got half same votes as Farage

I agree that Reform will be huge favourites to win another by election. However, they could face some challenges, particularly via Restore, who look certain to eat into their vote and aren't that far away from their Great Yarmouth stronghold. Disillusioned tories may return also, under Badenoch, who seems to have steadied the ship recently but without making dramatic progress. Labour and Greens just aren't strong enough here but will still take a fair percent. Taking PIP from the 9627 voters who currently claim won't help Reform chances. There is also the exact reason that a by election may be held in the first place, with the Standards Commission detail being relative.

2nd by election would follow parliamentary sanction against farage.

He jumped the gun thinking he could avoid scrutiny

How long they take is another matter.

Voters coalesced around Binface, and will coalesce around farrages best placed opponent, likely to be the tory candidate.

Farrage will be short price to win, but long term benefit to others is to expose his sleaze and corruption on national basis via Clacton.

Everyone who just voted for Farage is well aware of the £5M and the crypto stuff. There would be no new information for the voters to consider.

Farage voters despise Labour & the Tories. So 'parliament'(Labour & the Tories) declaring that Farage is a crook is going to move zero votes.

Voters coalesced around no hoper Binface. But the Tories are no hopers too. Most Binface voters would stick with him surely.

I don't think Count Binface will stand again in Clacton.
