8 is Kinky Afro - Happy Mondays
My answer for 9 is probably not what you are after PoP as i can't see a Manchester connection, but the Sensational Alex Harvey Band did a fantastic version of Framed which was a highlight of their live act which is why i know it well - the song was a hit in the 50s for Ritchie Valens (who died along with Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper in 1959) - same first line as you quote. |

If it was 'high street' then you have David Bowie, the Laughing Gnome

Sorry PoP, I'm stuck on them all, even the ones that DD has suggested, which I've little doubt are right. #6 was making me think, but it turned out to be a different song altogether, with different words

Interesting that Dreadlock Holiday has the same opening line as Framed - neither Ritchie Valens or SAHB from Manchester of course.
No 10 - the giant peach must be James. And from your clue the song must be Laid ? |

Hot town summer in the city, back of my neck getting warm and gritty has been said. Could take and leave other parts of the song but that opening part is brilliant. |

Cheers PoP, i remembered Alternative Ulster but not that one.
Shrewd - you are supposed to put up five first lines mate for the rest of us to muse over. Having the title in the opening line is not recommended btw ![]() |

I wanted to put an Undertones song in, but their big two songs start with "A teenage dream's so hard to beat" and "Now I've got a cousin called Kevin" so that was that.
