Can't believe some of the prices I've got on Burnham this last month. Clearly the only legit successor to Starmer.

I put him up at 6/1 when he declared he had 81 mps.

starmer can still block him, but might be his last act as pm.

Legit to have a prime minister that isn't even in parliament. That takes some level of cerebral gymnastics :)

Personally I think it demonstrates how politicians have zero feel for real people. I will genuinely be very surprised if they don't object to be used in this way. Assuming Burnham gets on the ballot, which isn't a given.

It's truly inspiring to see Wes Streeting call for decisiveness in govt after a week in which he denied he'd resign; then resigned but said he wouldn't stand as leader; then said finally he intends to stand as leader, so we can rejoin the EU, a policy he was dead against last week.

Issue piling up for Burnham by-election -- First rejoining the EU in a Big Brexit area, now grooming gangs.

That's before the Greens start on his support of Israel.

Keir reportedly deciding when to set out his exit timetable, before or after the by-election. Big blow for Andy if he does it now.

If Starmer steps down before a contest, does the market get settled on Lammy as next PM, since he's deputy? All it says in the rules is:

"In the event of any dispute around who is the Next Prime Minister after Keir Starmer we will settle this market on the Prime Minister as published on https://www.gov.uk/government/ministers/prime-minister"

I've seen a bit of ramping of lammy elsewhere too.

Starmer should stay in office until a new leader is elected.

If he doesn't, then you can lawyer up

See Teresa may resignation.

As it happens I'm on Rayner, so to speak, just had the thought that maybe a small insurance premium on Lammy might be wise just in case? Surely Starmer knows that even standing against the no. 10 cat would mean certain & humiliating defeat.

He would remain in office until new person elected.

Of course he might die, but otherwise it's straw clutching imo.
