is what?

Burnham would be no more successful than Starmer because he'd be stuck in No.10 with the same policies.

But it’s not the policies that have undone Starmer. It’s his character.

Starmer is in the sh!t because Labour's economic policies have failed to revive the corpse which is the British economy.

No one would give a sh!t about who knew what when about some obscure civil service vetting procedure if the economy was bubbling along nicely.

Really?

Do you think anyone would really care about who knew what when about some obscure civil service vetting procedure if the economy was bubbling along nicely instead of flat lining?

Labour's high income tax, high benefit model just can't compete with other countries.

Andy Burnham isn't Harry Potter.

Yes. I've explained upstream that Labour have done ok on a lot of things. He's not under pressure for growth or tax, because most people don't think they're that bad all things considered. He's under pressure becuase of personal failings of judgment, not taking responsibility and trying to cover things up. It's all out there.

The FTSE100 was at an all time high end of February, until donald started his war.

There's clearly nothing wrong with the economy according to the rich people.

So if there is nothing wrong with the economy, maybe it's something to do with who gets a slice of it and how big a slice they get.

Has that changed?

Junior doctors, Teachers, "The middle class" all used to get a slice big enough to buy a house, own a car, start a family, stay at home wife etc.

Now they all earn less per hour than a parking meter.

The economy isn't delivering for the workers.

The rich are still getting rich

Those on welfare have never been so well off

And as Escapee rightly points out the workers have never worked do hard for such a thin slice of the pie.

And on top of that next to nothing in the country works.

Not sure if you've been paying attention but it's been that way for nigh on twenty years. It'll take more than two years to turn this mess around.

It'll never be turned around because the electorate only vote for easy solutions. No one's going to vote for hard graft.

You cant use the level of the FTSE100 to judge the success of the UK economy given the businesses that make up the index.

What index should you use then?

Let me guess, you're going to say there is no index to judge the success or not of the economy.

Politicians/news outlets are constantly going on about GDP growth, which is up 25% in 25 years.
On average, is everyone 25% better off than they were 25 years ago?

I think the FTSE 250 is probably a better one but im not really up on its members these days. Im not making a political point here just pointing out the FTSE 100 is not a good measure given the amount of earnings that come from abroad.

To be fair markets can be pretty irrational at times so using record highs to claim success is pretty senseless anyway and the only person I know who repeatedly does this is Trump.

It's always done when going up, and seldom when stagnant or slumping.

It's fairly useful for a benchmark on how folks savings/investments
might be performing so may be an indicator of public
satisfaction... So talk it up if going well... Dont
mention otherwise... Positive reinforcement

Labour figures from across rival factions have begun circulating informal proposals for “orderly transition” of power away from Keir Starmer.

Discussions have shifted from speculating about whether PM could be removed to how – including timelines, potential triggers & mechanics of forcing a leadership contest.

Starmer is determined to lead Labour into next general election, but allies acknowledge he does not have forever to convince his party - with one source suggesting he had nine months to persuade MPs he can turn things around.

He'll need to throw a few more under the bus meanwhile, Reeves next?

IMHO he was a dead duck the moment he okayed Reeves taking away the WFP from pensioners on just £13k a year.

Starmer has the political nouse of a runny-dog-turrd.

Do you really think Angela Rayner and Wes Streeting are going to hang around for Burnham to get his act together and get himself a parliamentary seat?

I read some fantasy bollox, I think in the Guardian, yesterday where Burnham would promise Starmer the Foreign Office if he just played nice and agreed to step aside for Andy LaughLaugh

Unless someone makes a move by Sunday 10th May, Starmer's job is safe.

Interesting thread and having looked through it, one thing troubles me. Can we please as a matter of urgency, round up and section the 3% in the poll that thinks Lammy would do better than Starmer. Yes, Starmer is a sh1tshow and on borrowed time, but come on, things can never be that bad.
