Whats the sense in having a curtain on the booth if they are letting more than 1 person in at a time ??

I never thought for a minute more than one person would be allowed at a time ??

Do they have curtains on booths?

We don't even have booths, we get a stand divided into 4
but only one voter at a time, as there's only one pencil
unless you take a pen, lol.

To be fair, if I could have put my back of the Greens in a double with the far right stamping their feet and skweaming that it's all so unfair I wouldn't have hesitated.

Will the roasting of the Labour Party in this election expedite the demise of Sir Shameless political career? There can be no return from this drubbing, surely.

Personally I'd be a layer of him leaving this year. The MP's have looked into the abyss and didn't like what they saw. They've got rid of McSweeney, looks like they've seen that trying to appeal to Reform voters has cost them ten times the number fleeing leftwards and will now try to win those back. I'd expect a couple of policy announcements before May that will be more of a signifier to the back benchers and members than the wider voting public that they're now on the right track etc, lick their wounds in the locals and look to rebuild.

The news outlets are saying that family voting is a criminal offence. Not in the countries where many of the voters come from. Credit where it is due though. Ms Spencer really told them a few home truths in her speech. We listen to voters she said so we are talking about fly tipping, potholes, criminal gangs, the cost of living. A very long way from the environment which is where Green came from back in the day.

Leaving the result aside for a minute, having watched the Sky and BBC coverage live from 4.00 until 4.45 I was appalled by the scrum around the announcement with no apparent security for the candidates including the newly elected MP. At least 50 people had the opportunity to stab her had they wished. We need to wake up and change a lot of the procedures around elections.

..."not in the countries where many of the voters come from".

We're in UK Plc not some 3rd world, corrupt and dysfunctional "democracies" shored up by foreign loans and handouts even the tech behemoths do not have a footing eg Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. A bit of respect of the local laws and democracy. Otherwise, the exit door is open.

Interesting interview with a polling expert who said that Democracy Volunteers are an international organisation and their report on last night states that they saw some of the worst violations of Electoral procedure anywhere in the World, never mind in UK. And they did not intervene as Manchester Council accuses them of not doing because the condition of their presence as observers clearly forbids them from making any comment until the election is over. This will run and run.

The perpetrators will play the system until this is vociferously voiced in public similar to the accusations of present and former Home Secs Ms Mahmood and Ms Braverman over the abuses of immigration policies by predominately from S Asia eg students who claimed asylum post several extensions of their student visas, fake marriages and birth certificates, identity frauds, etc.

Starmer is dead in the water.

From the day Reeves cancelled WFP for poor pensioners he has displayed the political nouse of a dead badger in the 3rd lane of the M1.

For years Labour have relied on the Muslim vote but With Starmer's limp-wristed response to the genocide in Gaza they have deserted him en-masse.

The Sectarian/Family block vote that Labour has come to rely on for much of recent history turned against them last night.

Smart punters quickly realised this by-election was going to be a 'protest vote' about Gaza and for Anti-Semitism, and latched onto the party that was making the most sympathetic noises on that score. The punters cleaned up in a big way. The bookies aren't daft and played it comparatively safe.

The voters of Gorton and Denton haven't all suddenly become concerned about the environment.  But it's quite feasible that the Green vote might do well in future votes  in areas enriched by Peace-Loving religious types, at least under the present Green leadership. The numbers have spoken loud and clear.

I don’t agree with their sentiment, but I can kind of see why they vote the way they do when the sectarianism is used by, and for their community.

But what gets me are those who have to have the policies translated into English…..and still they go with them-that’s a level I will never understand.

Anyway, Restore Britain will just get loads more subscribers, and Lowe isn’t mincing his words, because after all, if one side isn’t prepared to listen to others, then that’s the way everyone must play now.

But they were prepared to listen-at least that is what I gathered from the successful candidate. She highlighted fly tipping. potholes, drug cartels, inflation, trains that don't arrive. The very problems that nearly all of us (apart from those with a chauffeur like Cabinet Ministers) are complaining about every day. When asked about the environment she just shrugged and said "I concentrate on what the voters tell me". The Reform chairman disowned a lot of what their candidate said so perhaps leaving candidates to make their own policy works better in winning votes than what the leaders think?

What she says is pretty irrelevant sage, it was in English. They went for the Gaza ticket. That might edge you home in a seat with a huge Pakistani population. But not most of Britain for the moment.

On Sky's analysis they said it was 55K potential voters in Gorton and 26K in Denton. With Gorton massively muslim.

Plus of course, widespread voting fraud as reported by the independent observers.

I was pretty confident that Starmer turning up in the constituency meant nothing. But quite a few of his MPs will now be tidying up their CVs :)

That seems a fair assumption. And despite that even right up to polling day Labour were targeting Reform rather the Greens, even making comments that it was a straight fight between them and Reform. 'Only Labour can beat Reform' seemed to be their message.

Will history pitch this like with those constituencies in the GE that voted on a Gaza platform, and perhaps people should be asking where are those votes going to go in a post Gaza landscape?

It's not just Muslims angry about the genocide in Gaza.

I would never vote for a party that looked the other way while 20,000 children were slaughtered.

One thing that Reform and Green have in common. They don't seem to have a clue about how to organise a press conference.

Maybe, maybe not but for normal people it's not the determining factor in a UK election. They couldn't give a schiit and are fed of hearing about Gaza.

As per the OP, this was fertile territory for the greens. OK it wasn't a great pun.

Let's see what happens in May.

Many people are missing imo that the workers party not running was very significant.

Reform needed to chip away from the traditional working class Labour vote as well as hollowing out the Tories, and they did.

Like Reform, they can't even stop the reporters from wandering about in front of the speaker! I am not saying this is vital but it does demonstrate how little they know about presentation. And it also says a lot about the reporters!

Another example of how fickle the Labour vote is. The Blue wave in the 2019 election and now this. OK, Labour were the part of default in the 2024 election because the Tories were so unpopular, also the cycle was coming to end. 14 Years of Conservative government.

Analysts reckon roughly there are 30–40 constituencies where Muslims make up 20%+ of the population, and about 15–25 seats where they are close to the levels seen in Gorton.

Context is needed. There 650 constituencies in total.

The sooner the islamo-faction go it alone the better, atm they are taking hostages who are simply propping up their international manifesto.

Anyone who voted Green on the premise they think they have morals to keep them warm, have absolutely nothing other than those it seems.

Which is what happened in Tower Hamlets. Piggybacked onto Labour initially, then once they had the numbers, off they went out on their own. Has anyone translated the leaflets that were in Urdu, into English? And was it the only election leaflet those voters could actually read?

And now the allegations about vote fixing. Of course the ever so polite media can't, or won't, offer any detail. Was the family voting, younger family members trying to show older, non  English members where to put their X, or was it men telling their women where to so? For the life of me I just cannot see it being the women showing the men.
