Wow. So many people apparently know exactly what happened. No need to disclose anything is there. Just direct the tax man to the betfair forum.

Surprising that the poster would then go on to say the police have been bullied in to an investigation of the person they were talking about when they said this.

Why does Angela Rayner believe that her and her husband are entitled to two tax free private residences . when every other married couple in the land is restricted to one ?

She says she has legal advice confirming that she can - Why not reveal it then ?

There can be only one reason - because it won't stand up to public scrutiny.

Aren't you supporters even the slightest bit interested in how she can do this ? - You were incandescent when it came Boris eating his birthday cake , as was Angela herself. She demanded he step aside immediately pending the outcome of the police investigation.  Why won't she even consider doing what she demanded of others ?

Her reputation as an honest politician is shot to bits - she is as hypocritical as the rest of them.

Come on Jonny.

Even if it turns out she has committed a crime she will always be known as the honourable Lady Angela by some halfwits on here simply by resigning her position.

I think the obvious reason is that some people have already made their minds up. Isn't it? It's not like Johnny is going to listen with an open mind and then say "fair enough, I was wrong and I apologise for my weeks of haranguing". That's just not going to happen. And it'll be the same for that guy at the Mail and the couple of dozen other people who "care" about this issue.

She's playing semantics now.

Any misdeclarations won't be considered a "crime" - civil penalties at worst  ie pay the penalty/fine and move on.

As I've said earlier her deflecting , obfuscation and attempted cover up are far worse than anything she may have actually done.

She has been badly advised - far better to have come out with - "I got in a muddle years ago - how much do i owe ?"... but no - she has tried to bluff it out.

She has shown her true colours - a hypocrite just like the rest of them.

You certainly appear to have.

You think the police are investigating her because they have been bullied.

You don't come across as open minded about what happened.

All i want to know is how and why she believes that her and her husband  are entitled to two tax free private residences when every other married couple in the land can only have one ?

What is so unreasonable about that ? She wants to be our Deputy Prime Minister after all.

"Because I have been told I am "  It doesn't cut it with me as an answer.  It may be good enough for you , but not me.

You think the police haven't been put under pressure? You think they're just sitting around reviewing their own decisions and just picked that one out of the tombola to re-assess? Can I interest you in a bridge?

She made £47,000 profit from the sale of her council home.

Yet she opposes the right to buy.

She slags of the Tories for their tax fiddles, and now it seems she's fiddled her own tax.

And still the Labour rats are queuing up to defender her. They're all tarred with the same brush.

What a load of Champaign socialist hypocrites.

Porky spends the whole thread not giving a view on Rayners actions but saying we should rely on the fact the police aren't investigating and she doesn't have to justify her actions because those who have made up their minds won't ever change them regardless of any police investigation.

Then when the police say they are investigating says we can't rely on what they say and should just ignore the fact that the police are investigating and makes it clear he won't change his view regardless of any police investigation.

Whatever happens it's great to watch people spend 12 pages expressing a view then pivot 180 degrees on it when it doesn't suit them.

Hoping you have a good day too.

Good to see the BBC picking their side on this one today. The headline starts "Are Angela Rayner's troubles...." - innocent until proven guilty eh Laura? Whatever the outcome, it was the insistence of another politician that this was looked at again but the BBC have chosen to give us their take on "AR's "troubles"
By:
Shrewd_dude
When: 13 Apr 24 10:32
What word would you prefer they used Lee?

I could maybe see 'problem' would work but what would be your preference for this situation?

"Trouble" doesn't imply guilt or innocence either way. It's a common vernacular to use for someone being investigated by police.

The police will let her off anyway. The same as they let Starmer off.

She's ensured that by saying she will resign if found guilty. Which is what Starmer did.

What leftie police officer wants the responsibility of getting rid of Labour's deputy leader before a GE?

Tories are different matter. The police were queueing up to drop them in it over the same thing that they let Starmer off for.
By:
LoyalHoncho
When: 13 Apr 24 13:05
A fleeting thought for me was that Starmer himself has instigated/provoked/propagated this whole thing to make it easier to dump her and bring in Reeves in her place - who is vastly more palatable in my eyes.  Pure speculation on my part, but if I were in Starmer's posi that is exactly what I would do.
Imagine this bint being a heartbeat away from the Premier job in British politics and responsible for our international safebeing.
Doesn;t bear thinking about.

Quite funny that the creature who raised the issue was Lord Ashton, a man who has used his non don status to dodge millions and millions of taxes.

The word hypocrisy sometime does not really hack it.

Of course because Starmer and Angie have done nothing wrong, the police cannot take action.

Now nutters and idiots will go on about police bias and other conspiracy theorist tripe. But then that is what idiots do innit?
Just sayin’ .

Also comical that after nearly 15 years of chronic and wholly evil sleaze and corruption of the Tories with not a whiff of criticism from their loyal but daft supporters, a labour politician who has done nothing but sell her old council house, suddenly gets lots of grief from non don tax dodgers, and the gutter press, supported by idiots.
Now let’s here it for PPE gate and Partygate, and Ashtongate, and Greensillgate and all the other stinking examples of odious Tory mass geared and corruption.

Best one was when Owen Patterson broke the rules by lobbying for some private firm who was paying him nice fat bungs.

Let’s have a little quiz about what the Tories tried to do when Patterson’s scandal was outed?

1. Did the Tories immediately remove the whip from Patterson? OR
2. Did the Tories apologise for his corruption to his constituents and call an immediate by-election OR

Wait for it….

3. Did they immediately try to change the rules to make his taking of the money okay after all?

Really we all know how the Tories always behave, or have done for the last 14 years anyway.

Mr Starmer has not come out of this stain-free either. Being a legal counsel he should have advised Ms Rayner "to sort it out" within a small period of time eg a week or two weeks maybe even directing her to the Party legal brain, if cost was an issue; the predicament of Ms Rayner is so clear-cut and easy to deal with swiftly eg produce documentation proof.

Now, he's been accused of being "weak", and lacking decisiveness and leadership when it matters.

We await Lee's thoughts..

The BBC is under fire after cutting short an interview with Angela Rayner over whether she broke the electoral law amid “concerns” from Labour staffers.

On Friday, Newsnight’s political editor Nick Watt admitted editing an interview he conducted with the Labour deputy leader three weeks ago to remove a comparison between the row over her former council house and the “Beergate” saga.

In the clip omitted from the original broadcast, Mr Watt asked Ms Rayner if she would consider her position untenable if it turned out she was in the wrong, just as Sir Keir Starmer had pledged to resign if he was fined over claims he broke Covid rules in “Beergate”.

Speaking live on Friday’s programme, he said the decision to cut the exchange was made for a “good editorial reason”. But he also admitted that Labour’s team had raised “concerns” after the interview that the “Beergate” comparison was unfair, as Ms Rayner was not under police investigation at the time.
