Spent billions doing just that. Now handing over military equipment and trained fighters straight to the Taliban.

handing over military equipment and trained fighters straight to the Taliban
fact - military equipment left for afghan forces (but they did a runner) |

Most countries with allegiance to the same religion will very probably side with the same against a foreign power regardless of how much money is pumped into the country eg Pakistan. It took the might and all the intelligence capacity of the USA nearly a decade to "locate" Bin Laden despite the individual was living in an opulent building in Pakistan.
Also, with mostly uneducated and unelected individuals (not in a working democracy) in power trying to appease the opposition (if any) within their political spectrum inevitably the foreign power will take 2nd place to their own. But, abandoning Afghanistan and walking away - that's what's happening - the rest of the world will feel the consequences in the near future; getting involved then walking away is short-sighted and selfish. I understand there's no workable solution to appease everyone/party in Afghanistan but walking away is the worst possible scenario. The Afghanistanis and the world will become a more dangerous place with the Taliban in power, for sure. |

Unfortunately all the time the West has been planning to pull out the Saudis have been funding and strengthening the Taliban. I don't know what the answer is - leave it alone or a permanent military presence with a steady stream of US and UK soldiers returning home in body bags.

Taliban fighters storm Kabul from all sides THE Taliban have begun storming Kabul from all sides, the Afghan Interior Ministry has said. The fanatics reached Kabul after seizing Jalalabad, the last major city apart from the capital under their control. The lightning speed of the Taliban has shocked the world and just a few days ago United States officials predicted it would 30 days for them to reach Kabul - and 90 to take the city. Twenty years after they were ejected by the US and its allies in the wake of 9/11 they stand on the brink of being back in power. Helicopters were seen near the US embassy as staff were evacuated to outside the city and they included Black Hawks, which typically carry armed troops. Three Afghan officials said that the Taliban were in the districts of Kalakan, Qarabagh and Paghman in the capital. The Taliban have said in a statement they do not plan to take Kabul “by force” as sporadic gunfire echoed in the Afghan capital. The country's President Ashraf Ghani is reported to be preparing to relinquish power ahead of the formation of an interim government. An Afghan official told the Associated Press that Taliban negotiators are heading to the presidential palace to prepare for a “transfer” of power. |

Well done Joe, Boris and the western military.
You have handed the Taliban billions of dollars of military equipment. Race now on to get our Afghan allies and own people out before the Taliban completely takeover the city. |

Any party politics (not that I care about Trump-Biden anyway) aside, I find this whole thing disgusting.. :(
We (UK/US) put so much into this crap and now ... Don't worry though, our "friend" Pakistan across the border is currently trying to put a death sentence on an 8 year old who peed his pants in a library. We could learn from these "noble" people. |

Should have built and equipped a women's army in Afghanistan. They would have kicked the Taliban's ass with something to fight for instead of running away or switching alliance all too easily.

If they don't want the Taliban why don't they fight them? Too many have different tribal objectives.

Interesting point Crippen
The Taliban were originally anti poppy but switched and used the proceeds to arm themselves If they do hate the West what better tic-tac than to feed their own people and deprive Western junkies of their sheite? Win win shirley? |

That means the ‘ culture ‘ of that country . |
