It's happened before, and how. They walked out of Iraq too, wreaking havoc, leaving thousands to their peril, danger and fate. I can never forget an Iraqi small businessman, clearly bright and positive asking a journalist/tv interviewer "It's all very well coming in and imposing/introducing 'democracy' but what will happen when you go away. And you will go away sooner or later"?

I'd share that view to an extent LH ...but the US would have levelled the place at least in areas they deemed a threat to National Security...

* if they hadn't tried a more progressive exit plan should probably have said...but never seems to end well,
I think in Afghanistan they had a bit more mainstream support than in some conflicts and although it's always political to an extent this was a bit more legit in many ways (just my opinion) |

Biden wants a fair price in the inner cities for the old poppyseed.

You might be closer to the truth than any of us think. We simply couldn't have such a successful drug sales industry, anywhere, worldwide, without absolute collusion and co-operation from those in control/government. |

Afghanistan war: Do the Taliban want to conquer or compromise? BBC asking the question
As foreign troops withdraw, many Afghans fear a brutal return to the regime of the 1990s, which was characterised by public executions, stonings and girls being banned from school. But what do the Taliban want from Afghanistan now? They appear to have missed out the Mass rape of women and girls ... Floods of Men charging over the border daily to join in proceedings . I wonder how many UK sympathizers will be heading over to join up . |

God old Joe Biden. Bumbling old fool that he is. Never again should stick his nose into British affairs in Ireland after leaving tens upon tens of thousands to their bitter fate in Afghanistan. But the old dodderer will, we can be sure of it. And we are seeing the sanitised version of the outcome of his action in running away on BBC - never forget that. The unseen effects, as case says below, must be dreadful for those who can't/couldn/t get away.

In February 2020, President Trump and NATO allies agreed to formulate a deal with the Taliban, allowing for a formal withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from Afghanistan. Under the terms of the agreement, the Taliban promised to "not to allow al-Qaeda or any other extremist group to operate in the areas they control." The deal, titled the "Agreement for Bringing Peace to Afghanistan", saw U.S. and NATO forces withdrawing in earnest and set the deadline for a complete withdrawal of U.S. forces by 1 May 2021.[31][32] Trump left open the possibility of a renewed war effort if the Taliban were to violate the terms of the agreement, promising that, if terms were broken, "we'll go back with a force like no-one's ever seen."[31]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Withdrawal_of_United_States_troops_from_Afghanistan_(2020%E2%80%932021) Biden just following the previous republican policy. |

Biden should send American , along with British and EU troops back into Afghanistan immediately and end this madness
Reclaim the cities and towns and take it from there . |

Will Joe follow this? Doubtful. |

"just"! "just"? As his predecessor Harry Truman once said "The buck stops here". It is irrelevant who formulated the policy it is Biden who is expediting it. He is responsible - no-one else. I hope he suffers from interminable insomnia and nightmares for the rest of his natural.
|
|
By:
The problem Biden has is the people he’s surrounded by , they are ideologically opposed to America and it’s aims throughout the world ( in the main good aims )
He can’t go against them , and it’s the poor people in Afghanistan who will suffer |

Yeah, yeah - poor old Joe. It's not his fault. He only signed the fcking order. It's like saying Nixon wasn't responsible for Watergate. In fact, let's retrospectively blame Ehrlichman, or Haldeman or maybe even "Deep Throat".

By:
Why aren't you criticising Johnson, the main "NATO ally"?
|
|
By:
And on the wider issue, do you think that NATO should stay in Afghanistan for another twenty years?
|
|
By:
Absolutely tragic what Biden is doing in Afghanistan.
He just looks so weak. Russia and China will be watching. If the Taliban get away with this prepare for more problems going forward. |

There has to be threat of violence for the actions.
We have been here before when Obama and Biden exited Iraq and ISIS swept in. |

Tell you what dave. Let's ask every mourning parent, wife or husband of a deceased British solider from the twenty odd years of the conflict, just how cheated they feel by this retreat and go from there. Every death now a totally wasted life. Disgusting.

The major powers playing a "game" with the people of the country: In one minute, out the next; a minute that suits their fancy. And, abandon the Afghanistanis to their peril and probable civil war just like Syria and Iraq.

Absolutely tragic what Biden is doing in Afghanistan. He just looks so weak. where's your post from 2020 critising the Trump administration for making the deal with the Taliban that committed to this withdrawal? |

when he started withdrawing troops Kabul wasn't under threat, a total Taliban victory didn't seem imminent he may have acted differently now |
