"Their main war will be at home over the coming years"

Possibly from the former inhabitants (now refugees) who'd not forgotten their lives and mistreatment by the Talibans and foreign powers in Afghanistan. What's happened in Iraq and Syria and now Afghanistan is wicked and inhumanely cruel. Maybe Afghanistanis can ask for compensation for the wanton destruction and abandonment of the country by the foreign powers.

Evil (this word is misused on this forum but it appropriate here) ..
EVIL butchering medieval islamist headcases take over a country plunging the populace into misery death and oppression, aided it is said by good sources by Pakistan, and who do the lefty headcases blame? America of course! Must be something to do with Capitalism as well I'll wager.

I shouldn't be surprised, other than blaming it on Boris of course. Boris was alive 20 years ago, probably knobbing some bird, must be his fault as well.

Tell us oh left wing geniuses, if the various western forces hadn't went in 20 years ago to kick out the Taliban, then surely all that would have happened was there would have been 20 years of uninterupted hellish backwards brutality, rather than a break and an attempt to stop it?

Or what would the lefties above have done over the last 20 years. HUGGED the taliban into seeing reason, and an intensive sticker campaign? Sent over some Trans activisits from Portland to talk to them about tolerance? For the 2 hours it took before their heads come off.

Joe Biden owns this. The idea that Trump agreed to Taliban doing what they doing right now is laughable.

Good to see the UK getting Cobra together but there is nothing we can do without the USA and Biden has fallen asleep at the wheel.

Tell you what dave.  Let's ask every mourning parent, wife or husband of a deceased British solider from the twenty odd years of the conflict, just how cheated they feel by this retreat and go from there.  Every death now a totally wasted life.  Disgusting

So you want more British soldiers to die over the next twenty years? Where was your post screaming when trump set a deadline to withdraw (which has now passed).

President Trump and NATO allies agreed....(to) set the deadline for a complete withdrawal of U.S. forces by 1 May 2020

He didn't say anything about the murderous filth overrunning the country just " Under the terms of the agreement, the Taliban promised to "not to allow al-Qaeda or any other extremist group to operate in the areas they control."

Mr McConnell said the Biden administration's strategy had turned the situation into a "major embarrassment and a global emergency" and called for immediate support for Afghan forces.

"Without it, al-Qaeda and the Taliban may celebrate the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks by burning down our embassy in Kabul," his statement added.Plain

The UK defence secretary has criticised the US decision to leave Afghanistan as a “mistake” that has handed the Taliban “momentum”.

Speaking to Sky News, Ben Wallace warned that “the international community will probably pay the consequences” and said he was worried al-Qaida would regain a base in Afghanistan.

He confirmed UK plans to deploy 600 troops to Afghanistan to help 3,000 people including interpreters and British passport holders to leave, as officials said on Friday the Taliban had captured Afghanistan’s second biggest city, Kandahar, as well as Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province in the south.

Wallace said the withdrawal agreement negotiated in Doha, Qatar, by the Trump administration was a “rotten deal” which the UK tried to resist.

Can't see how Trump or Biden is to be blamed.

Bush and Blair seem more likely culprits.

Ultimately though the majority of Afghans are likely not that bothered about the Taliban. The 'good guys' we were allied with there don't really have much different outlook to the Taliban.

I saw many of the refugee women that arrived in Kabul were wearing the full blue niqab thing, without even the eye slit. If that's what they wear in the non Taliban areas what is the difference who captures what.

It;s nothing to do with Trump - he is not president.  When he came in he dismantled "ObamaCare" - Biden had the same opportunity to veto and reverse this this decision.  He signed the order, not Trump.
"Doddery" Joe Biden, the soft touch president, who, in just wanting an easy life has totally blown away any good that American foreign policy has done in the last twenty years.
And yes dave1357, soldiers will die in conflicts.  Regrettably so too I may add.  But ask any soldier and they'll tell you - that's their job.  They know it.  And I am sure that many, many more lives will now be lost domestically because of this weak retreat.  Many more.  And all down to Joe Biden.
All done to save money yet they went in to establish " democracy".  Sickening.

Biden reportedly gone on holiday as Kabul comes under pressure and the US/UK evacuates.

Billions and billions and billions of American money spent training and arming the local army and they will last a few weeks max and all the US financed equipment will belong to the Taliban.

Unbelievable stuff.
