CNN have called it, that's what Betfair are using for the popular vote.

I'm glad you keep posting this, but you don't understand what it means.

The projected Electoral College vote is based on who the nominated Electors are, as certified by each state. Whilst the votes are being legally contested, the identity of the electors is not yet known. The media's projection at this point may not be the official projection, which may not be known until 8th December, when States must have certified their electors. Betfair would be insane to settle the Next President market without knowing what the official make-up of the Electoral College will be.

I've already told you that is wrong. Betfair explicitly say in their statement that the last three elections were settled on the basis of media projections and the concession of the defeated candidate. There is nothing at all about official projections, which States don't make. States count the ballots and give an official result, projections are made by analysts.

How on earth can the Media second guess the results that must be certified by the State authorities? Biden had won yesterday if you watched CNN and I think he has but there could be plenty of mileage in this yet.

Because they're not idiots and know how maths works? Biden is too far ahead in PA for Trump to win given the nature of the votes remaining and their origin.

Trump ain't conceding

There's the problem

Had he conceded it would
now be settled

There is no meaningful issue to be brought before courts.

In elections where the result is uncontested, Betfair can safely settle on the media's initial projections, but this election is still live because of multiple lawsuits. A true PROJECTION of the make-up of the Electoral College can only be made when the States have certified the vote counts, and appointed their electors to the Electoral College.

There is no meaningful dispute.

This market will be settled according to the candidate that has the most projected Electoral College votes won at the 2020 presidential election.

The rules don't care about your feelings or your negative betting position on Biden, Chemo.
By:

When: 07 Nov 20 17:04
Incidentally, most of the US media have now called Pennsylvania for Biden, and are claiming he's won the election. Betfair hasn't suspended the Next President market, so if you think the media projection is definitive, go fill your boots.
By:

When: 07 Nov 20 17:04
It cannot settle before Jan 2021, Next presidency is only confirmed when it takes place. If b/f see it as otherwise, they may be mistaken, they may be correct. Let's see.
By:

When: 07 Nov 20 17:06
The rules don't care whether you understand them mate, or that you know nothing about US politics. Anyone can make a projection on the Electoral College votes. Betfair will be sensible and go with the official projection, based on certified State vote tallies.

As I said above you can debate what "projected Electoral College votes" means, but I doubt it means what Chemosabe states, given BF's statement (although I doubt that the person who wrote that actually read the rules).
By:

When: 07 Nov 20 17:08
So, why is the market still open?
By:
Chemosabe
When: 07 Nov 20 17:09
Ostend, Betfair can settle when they are certain of the projected Electoral College votes. They should know this by December 8th, the deadline for States certifying their electoral results.
By:
Sergeant Cecil
When: 07 Nov 20 17:09
There is no such thing as an official projection. The lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania was on CNN today asking why they hadn't called it. Betfair directly contradict your view. The States do not predict the winner. They count the votes and determine an official one.

There is an official list of electors to the Electoral College, from which the actual "projection" can be made. This is not yet fixed. It will be known by December 8th.

Why not just read what betfair have actually said regarding settlement?

"We will only settle the markets when there is certainty ...... we must therefore wait for clarity around ongoing votes counts, recounts and any potential legal challenges to the results"

My italics.

Don't expect settlement any time soon.

It's here. You might want to read the second and third paragraphs which totally undermine your ridiculous argument:

Ordinarily in a US election, a result declaration from various news networks would be followed by a concession speech by the losing candidate.

This would trigger the settlement of the remaining Betfair markets. It's what happened in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
