Live betting today...
Conservatives solid at 2/5, 4/9. Labour contracting slightly to 2/1 from 9/4. 1000/1 bar two. |
By:
what time is the result expected?
any exit polls? |
By:
Don't know about exit polls but result expected (weather permitting) between 3 and 4 am.
By:
there is a local exit poll but only 29 votes so far posted!!!!
Still have a feeling this will be close. Labour have pulled out all the stops and will not fail through the want of trying , they have had a very visible presence throughout the whole area today. The UKIP & Lib dem candidates are both local and both have come across very well, while they will not win outrighttheir share of the votes is going to be the determining factor in the eventual result imo. |
By:
No definite news at all but the Tories think they may have won it. Labour price moving out slightly.
By:
Still 1.43. Seems a massive price given that information. In Stoke labour appear big at 1.32 given the news there.
By:
late votes are huge in north in terms of %
have tea, go vote, i wouldnt be piling in on either of these seats today betfair also have a price on the double which has been a shade of value at times against the individual results perhaps its a different layer ? |

" great results for the Tories tonight.
Both UKIP and Labour reeling. |
By:
Solid win for Tories but still only a small number of votes cast for any party. Lib Dems and Greens did really badly in both. There is a lot that will happen before the next general election but the general conclusion from yesterday seems to be that in really safe Labour territory, people are abstaining from voting at all while in marginal areas, Conservatives can win every seat. If UKIP can't make headway and Lib Dems seem finished in the short term there is no real opposition.
By:
Things could change very quickly of brexit negotiations start to go wrong. The Tories have all their eggs in that basket.
The Libdems won Richmond playing that game. They could pick up more seats off the Tories in high remain areas. 48% of voters support their stance. Yesterday showed Labour voters are not going to move enmass to UKIP but it could be Tories are more willing to switch to Libdem if they support the single market and a second vote. |
By:
Its the cuts and austerity that's forcing voters into the arms of the Tories.
By:
As an SNP supporter (has anybody noticed that?) the conclusion I would draw from last nights results is that the Conservative party could have a really good result in the May Scottish council elections..
UKIP...don't count in Scotland Libdem..pockets of support but nothing startling Labour...Scottish vote collapsing almost daily SNP...Solid support everywhere Scottish Green...A good alternative to Labour in wealthy suburbs of Glasgow and Edinburgh Conservative... Harvesting the unionist vote and increasing poll ratings. |
By:
I have to say even though I was confident that Con would win this seat I really didn't expect it to be by that margin. One of the most spectacular results in election history.
There's a couple of interesting things we saw here. Labour voters are switching directly to Con without the Lab->UKIP->Con route. In an area like this that is massive and if replicated in other northern seats suggest Lab are losing votes to all three major parties. Secondly Labour run a dirty campaign on NHS scaremongering and it didn't cut through. "Vote Labour or your kids will die" was rightly ignored. Now if Lab can't scaremonger on the NHS, what do they have left? |
By:
People are dying and suffering needlessly under this vile government , social care stripped and butchered old people neglected , cancer patients facing a postcode lottery , people with mental illness and leaning difficulty cant access proper treatment, the DWP ordered to persecute the old and the sick , what more evidence do people want about this evil that governs us and has the bare faced cheek to pontificate about patriotism.

By:
I agree with much of what Anxious says. Unfortunately, people don't care if they have not experienced such adversity themselves. We all grow old and sick at some point, though.
By:
What anxious says is nonsense.
By:
Really what part of is nonsense ?
By:
Everything you post calls for extra funding.
More cash for the NHS, more cash for the care of the elderly (what happened to families looking after their own), more cash for the unemployed, more cash for the disabled, allow in more immigrants, give more in foreign aid and etc. Did we have all this under a Labour government? Answer is no. So why not, and were you calling them vile and scum? Everything is about balance but you choose to ignore this so you can score cheap points. |
By:
No not at all im not saying New Labour should escape from any criticism but this present Tory government is the worst ever and truly evil
By:
Nonsense again. So were these services always good? No they've all always suffered from a lack of funding.
Impossible to fund so that 100% is achieved in everything. As I said it's all about a balance and currently we are suffering because of immigration yet you want an open border. |
By:
The thing that really sticks in my throat is the call for more care or the elderly.
We have a few generations who think everything is the responsibility of government. What happened in the past? People looked after their own that's what happened. Now they are happy to leave it to the authorities or want paid for it. |
By:
No the real problem is that Thatcherism broke up the post war consensus on the NHS and the Social Security System and declared war on it , this is the kind of society that her ilk have created.
By:
When in difficulty blame it on Margaret Thatcher.
![]() |
By:
anxious is not in difficulty, it's akabula. Elderly folks have worked all their lives, paid their taxes and national insurance, perhaps fought for their country and what do you say should happen to them?
"The thing that really sticks in my throat is the call for more care or the elderly." I guess euthanasia would be your preferred option akabula? |
By:
Elderly people used to be looked after by their families, usually one of the daughters. Far to many expect that to be the responsibility of the state now i.e somebody else to take on the cost and time.
By:
lol
when families had 10 kids that might be an option why should a woman give up her life to look after parents foc to save the state |
By:
By:
Once Corbyn and his magic money tree appears we will all do just fine.
By:
We all know that it is not possible for the State to care for all pensioners who are now 25% of the population. I am a pensioner myself but unless it is confiscated by a Labour Government, I have enough savings to look after my needs until I am 100 and don't expect to live that long.
By:
Dot you waffle on constantly about Jeremy but your other hero Donny is doing exactly the same thing in America , do you ridicule him too
By:
As for the economy is it not true that this prudent fiscal solid tory government as bigger levels of debt than any Labour government in history
By:
I often ridicule Trump yes. Do you praise Trump for his left wing policies?
By:
So anxious you would support higher taxes or further cuts in public spending?
Im all for further spending cuts and think Osbourne did a very poor job but you seem confused. You rant on about austerity then criticise the Govt for borrowing too much. I know thats because you are a Corbyn money tree fanatic but surely even you can see how inconsistent you are. |
By:
I do agree with some of his policies
By:
No I was making the point about tory lies about being able to balance the books , I ask once again is it not true that the tories have created more debt than any Labour Government in history , yes or no ?
By:
Of course its true although you have to take into account the position they inherited.
Its hardly feasible to remove a 100+ billion deficit overnight although I think they could have done better than they have. I will ask you again how have you got the cheek to criticize them for borrowing to pay for NHS/welfare/pension spending etc when you refer to the cuts they have made as evil. You have ZERO consistency or credibility. Are you Jermey Corbyn? |
By:
No the reason there was a massive deficit was the result of the financial crash of 2008 which meant the banks had to be bailed out or else we would have been in further trouble, its true I have said that they are evil and indeed they are , its all about choices if you spend billions on weapons of mass destruction that could blow mankind to smithereens or you could spend money on helping humans live a more happy and fulfilling life
By:
Have you forgotten the IMF warned Brown about his spending as far back as 2004.
So how would you have cut the borrowing that you are so critical of? Id love to see an anxious budget. |
