Coincidentally i dislike busy racing day crowds since being pick pocketed at Aintree in 2005 for £400. Collected £400 after Ashley Brook hosed up, never saw the money again.

Night EO. have a nice Christmas if I don't see you again before then.

I was wrong about Mickstick. I was wrong about NL/Melanus but paddletoe is never wrong three times in a row! Only kidding. I hope I am wrong 3 times in a row and whats more I have seen some of 4th july,s post and he seems a very nice guy so I hope he does not let you down, not just because of the money but because you seem to both get on well.

One last thing. I love the way you talk about your wife.

Happy Christmas.

She was it and that was that.

Robert Mitchum said it first about his own wife but nobody said it more succinctly or better.

Have a good one paddle.

Whether any of this is true ive no idea but there is no way 4thjuly will have  a 2 grand bet at Cheltenham. Not a chance.

I'll be there, and he can have the bet with me.

You ask how much I need, oh must I explain?
I need 2 grand my darling, like roses need rain.
You ask how long I'll love you; I'll tell you true:
I am the twelfth of never, and I am shafting shafting you

The offer of a £2 grand bet is meaningless.

Pick a short priced horse, then lay it for £2k on here.

Go to Cheltenham, back it with a bookie for £2k at a fraction below the exchange odds, suffer a small loss and save face.

Handing over £2k in cash to EO would be better imo.

EO if you want to know what it feels like to double your money in this bet I will loan you two grand and you can fold all the notes in half.

But you can still have the bet with me if you get to the Festival.

With the Cheltenham Festival a mere handful of days away, we all look forward to the gathering of the clans.

In particular, the Politics Forum breathlessly awaits news of which horse will be carrying the £2000 of the forumite 4thJulykid's money, an obligation of course made necessary as a result of the agreement detailed above. Fingers crossed it will win and result in a handsome return for both beneficiaries.

Good luck.

As am I Alun but sadly as of yet I've heard nothing and haven't had a reply to an email I sent to 4thjuly last weekend. Hopefully he's intending to honour his word.

EO - I'm sure he'll come good. The alternative simply doesn't bear thinking about.

We certainly don't want any repeat of the utterly disgraceful scenes we all witnessed on the Chit Chat Forum a couple of Christmases ago.

One of the Politics Forum's most liberal/left-leaning posters (we'll call him Forumite X) inexplicably and presumptuously decided he knew more about Forumite Y and his family's life than was the case. Forumite X bet "a great deal of money" on an outcome (unstated, but by definition most people would therefore say a four or five figure amount) and humiliatingly lost the bet. Sound familiar?

Despite Forumite X being an avowed "progressive", a lover of Multicultural London (from a safe distance of living several hundred miles away), a man with a passion for Africa, you know….all the right stuff…. has since avoided posting on here although his forum name remains extant. I have no wish to name and shame him here, he has already humiliated himself, and there's no way back for that sort. Goodness only knows what his peers would say of his failure to pay.

Curious that Forumite X should have been completely silent since losing his bet. Hitherto, you could barely go a day without reading one of his lofty and often wincingly politically correct pronouncements.

Good luck to you both with the bet. Fingers crossed it isn't one of my Lays !!

Such a fiend deserves to be outed You would never have heard the last of it had the other party not taken him on.

I must confess my faith is wavering a little regarding 4thjuly. You'd have thought he would have been on here by now. Shocked

There's a surprise. This makes TWO lefties who have proposed large bets this last couple of years on this Community website, lost them both (crushingly) and then disappeared without trace (to date). Zero integrity.
